I take it you (NB: was refering to gonzo) have never been in the opposite situation, i.e. been steward at a football or alike game? I would assume the situation and debate was quite heated anyways. The police and stewards will have taken the most safe and easiest route for them. It is what they always do. And it is - usually - not what is seen as "common sense" from the opposite party. Simply because those fans are not responsible and won't be taken to the cleaners if something happens.

I had a flatmate who was a steward at Easter Road for a couple of years.  He was a bloody idiot.  

 

I suppose what you say is fair enough.  It's just hugely frustrating that decent fans missed out, so I hope you'll forgive me my lack of diplomacy.

As you have to be registered for away games I don't understand why a credit card form cannot be used. They are easy to store in a wallet and cannot be printed. They are also easy to upload onto a chip.
