  1. On the 9th April 1938 our Founder Moses McNeil passed at Townend Hospital Dumbarton. Moses spent the last few years of his life living with his sister, Isabella, in Clynder at Craig Cottage. She died in 1935, to be followed by her brother, the last of the siblings, in 1938. http://i65.tinypic.com/2vslxms.jpg[/IMG] Moses was from the east side of the Gareloch , his father John was from Comrie in Perthshire and mother Jane Bain from Downpatrick in Ulster. He was a natural athlete Powerful and of stocky build , it was said that was known for his pace and he had stamina too. In the Ibrox trophy room is a cup won by Moses for a half-mile race at the Garelochead Athletic Sports on 1 January, 1876 , it’s the oldest Trophy that the Club has. http://i67.tinypic.com/124zfae.jpg[/IMG] Moses played for the club he helped form for ten years, playing in the 1877 and 1879 Scottish Cup Finals. He was also a member of the first Rangers side to lift a trophy, the Glasgow Merchants Charity Cup in 1879. He was the first Ranger to play for his country, in a 4-0 victory over Wales at Hamilton Crescent Partick in 1876. Moses led a nomadic lifestyle mainly due to his 20 year employment with the company Langs whose name was synonymous with the famous brand of whisky. Their premises, which Moses worked from, was 70 Union Street in Glasgow. During his time in Glasgow Moses lived at 169 Berkeley Street and 333 Dumbarton Road. These locations are among many others that we cover during the Founders Trail. Only 9 months after Moses’ passing Rangers would set their record attendance at Ibrox Park of 118,000 . It’s a comforting thought that our Founder was sitting in his cottage while the Club that he’d help form and nurture were now one of the biggest in the World. They lie together with their sister Elizabeth and Isabella’s husband, Duncan Gray, in the lovely churchyard at Rosneath. But sadly for the man who gave Rangers their name his own isn’t inscribed on the family headstone. The late Sandy Jardine was a great supporter of the Founders project and had expressed a wish to have a plaque with Moses name on it placed at the churchyard at Rosneath and this is a project that we completed on Sandy’s behalf on Sunday 28th June 2015. Our Restoration team cleaned Moses stone and placed an engraved plaque which was purchased after funds were raised via the Rangers support. Today we remember Moses McNeil. https://www.thefounderstrail.co.uk/moses-mcneil

  3. Steven Thompson has been drinking the BBC Kool Aid. After viewing the Alves tackle he says "Scott Brown would have been sent off for that." WTF. What's it to do with Scott Brown. Brown has been sent off 2 times in 7 years domestically. What is this fixation that Scott Brown is hard done by?

  6. I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread inviting Rangers fans to post their memories of matches from days gone by. I've several and would hope to find the time to get them down for posterity. My memory isn't what it once was and I have to say that confirming some of the details of the game online became a real trial and proved the fact that Wiki should never be used as a point of reference. I'll go with the little brain cells I have left and state that Wiki Rangers have got this one wrong, the game was played away from home. Hibs v Rangers , 30 January, season 1964/65. This one sticks in my head for several reasons which I'll explain as I go along. Firstly, it was my birthday. Back then I didn't miss many Rangers home matches, in fact very few games anywhere and usually headed to them crammed in the back of my grandads Gas Board van, sitting on top of old valves, scrap metal and tools. This time though, my dad having passed his driving test the week before and him having borrowed his pals van we made the trip from the south side of Glasgow through to Easter Road. I remember it being unsurprisingly, a cold day. Just then the vans oil warning light came on forcing a stop at a petrol station to buy a can of oil. Near to Calderpark Zoo, just before we got on to the dual carriageway heading east we saw a long haired guy with his thumb extended and dad asked if we should pick him up. The fella climbed into the rear, thanked us and didn't stop talking for the next hour. He was a student of some kind but that's about as much as I could make out. Somewhere on the journey we stopped to get something to eat and the student followed us in to the greasy spoon. Maybe he'd forgotten his wallet, suffered from Paisley Disease or similar, but I know my dad paid for the 3 lunches. Back in the van our guest bummed yet another cigarette from dad just as the oil warning light lit up again leading to the purchase of another pint of engine oil. Heading along Princes Street the student said he'd reached his objective. We stopped. He thanked us before leaning over through the window to ask dad what time he'd be going back to Glasgow as it would save him time and trouble if he could cadge a lift with us for the return journey. Dad told me to cover me ears before blasting him with something along the lines of, " We've gave you a bleep bleep lift. You've smoked all my bleep bleep fags, ate all my sons bleep bleep sweeties. Ponced a bleep bleep meal. You haven't shut your bleep bleep mouth the whole bleeping journey talking a load of bleeping rubbish and you have the bleeping nerve to ask for a bleeping lift back ?!! Bleep off ya bleeping bleeper ! " We drove off just as the oil warning light woke up again. The game itself was unremarkable. We lost 1-0 to the team who'd finish 4th in the 18 team league, one place above Rangers. That season was one of the very few where neither us nor Celtic finished in the top 2. Celtic finished in 8th place that season. We did however win the League Cup beating Celtic 2-1 in the final thanks to two goals from Jim Forrest . I was at that match too - thanks be to God ! Another 2 pints of oil were added to the engine before we reached home. The following day my dads mate was able to report that all the oil did not blow up the engine. But it was a close run thing. The faulty oil warning light was repaired later. I've no idea what became of the student .

  7. I was at that one too. Churchill’s funeral and Henderson and Baxter back from injury. Hearts must have been playing in the west because the Evening Despatch jambo writer reported the A8 eastbound traffic solid with Rangers ‘buses, cars, lorries and vans all the way from Maybury to the Newhouse roundabout. I can see this topic running on and on. I’ll be back tomorrow when I’ve decided which one to bore you with.

  8. I hope Accies avoid the drop. Aside from being my hometown team they have no pretensions of ever being anything other than an apprentice school for young talent before said talent moves on to bigger things and they do exceptionally well at that. Being in the SPL attracts more of that young talent because they and their parents/advisors know that if they work hard they will get regular game time at Accies in the top league.

  10. Football wise, we should be further down the road than we are. The board managed to find/provide finance but we've had some awful transfer windows and managerial 'issues'. From May 2016 up until the backend of 2017, it was close to omnishambolic at times and we'll still be paying for it further down the line. A good managerial appointment and functional football operation are desperately required.

  11. Lol. Absolutely NO CHANCE is he having such nightmares. The league effectively ended when they beat us at Ibrox. You mention all but Aberdeen have taken points from them this season but fail to mention that Celtic still have a better record against all the other top 6 teams than those others have. The need for Celtic to drop that many points is more than just a little dramatic, even though not impossible..... though it may as well be. They are 13 points ahead with 15 to play for. If Rodgers is having nightmares then the other managers must be suicidal. The notion he is fearful is just silly.

  13. It’s worse than that. They mention ONE incident from that game when there were half a dozen. the coin throwing, two (IIRC) pitch encroachments to get at Dallas and some clown launching himself off the top tier. Dont ever let them forget that the reason title deciders between Rangers and Celtic will always be avoided is because of CELTIC fans, nobody else !

  14. “But for some reason we can't do that here which is a sad indictment.” its not ‘for some reason’ it’s because Celtic fans went mental last time with their usual lack of sporting integrity. They simply can’t be trusted in such a fixture because even in this day and age they still think they are fighting a real war. They can’t be trusted at Ibrox and they certainly cant be trusted in their own dump. Our players and officials simply would not be safe. They can’t lose with dignity but almost uniquely they can’t win with dignity. Once your fans and players show they can handle such a fixture the authorities might think about it Brendan. Until then remember it’s YOUR fans who created this situation so YOU need to suggest what steps your club will take to ensure you can behave on such an occasion. Its a sad indictment of YOUR fans not a sad indictment on the world.

  15. Following some contrary results including as examples the Kilamrnock game and the away draw to Mothwerwell which though it included a spirited fight back was still somewhat of a letdown I have been giving some thought to the immediate future. And by immediate future I mean the end of season fixtures but more so next season. After all the events of the past 6 years then the journey through the lower tiers culminating in a return to the SPL I would guess we all thought at the time it may take half a decade minimum after returning to the SPL to be anywhere near where we should be. I know I did. It may be the case that we were then distracted from such blunt realities due to an unexpected Scottish cup win over the yahoos then the signing of Joey Barton which proceeded to go pear shaped in every possible manner. Before the Barton disaster played out I feel that signing such a high profile player in our first season back in the SPL encouraged us to believe that we had somehow skipped all the steps required for a full return to former glories and were now at least almost back where we should be. But reality stepped in and reminded us that the 'journey' is not yet fully over and it may still take at least a few more years before we truly are back at the pinnacle. Positives to be considered are that we now have Ashley more or less out of our pockets and despite disappointments we actually are improving season upon season and maybe in the near to immediate future window upon window. The team this season is the highest scoring outfit in the league by a comfortable margin over most but have a goals against record which though pretty much on a par with those directly below isn't good enough to take us to the title. That along with a bizarrely poor record at what should be fortress Ibrox has left us struggling to get second spot. But again, the overall trend is still far better than last season and I confidently expect that trend to continue into next season. We will continue to strengthen and improve while all those currently below us will effectively be more or less standing still or even sliding back some. You would imagine that we can continue into next season as a high scoring team and think where that could put us if we can resolve the defensive frailties in the next window. On the face of it that's all that's required to make us strong contenders and all we're talking about here is perhaps a few players. Before that we still have the post split games to come and the end result of it is at this time very difficult to predict given our erratic form. In fact so erratic it can feature two entirely different performances in the same game such as at Motherwell. That being said we still have the possibility to end the season with a bang followed by continued strenghtening in the Summer window and the prospect of Euro football in little more than a few months from now. But we have to temper our expectations on all fronts with the memory of what we have been through. An ordeal many if not most clubs may never fully recover from or may not even survive at all. We have come through it. We are progressing and will continue to do so. There is light at the end of the tunnel. We must simply keep in mind that we are indeed still in a tunnel so to speak but gradually emerging into the light ahead. All this isn't to say that 55 isn't a possibility even as soon as next season. It is but shouldn't be seen as abject failure if it doesn't come next season. It will come and when it does we will at last be able to put this nightmare decade behind us. A footnote in our history so to speak. And how sweet that day will be. So sweet it may even eclipse memories of past glories for many of us. Need I say it? Onwards and upwards.

  18. Just been in and TO was refreshingly quiet (forms not arrived yet). So filled them out there and job done. Took ten mins and away. Craig, there were a couple of folk in looking to change and were told to wait until all renewals are in. Then they will know what’s available for seat changes? £20 on top of last year for me and £3 extra for a child in family stand. £415 and £58 respectively for Broamloan Rear. Seems like a fair and sensible increase from the club.

  24. RBR is spot on and I would add a point 3, sticking with the youth coach when they got rid of Pedro instead of getting a proper manager in. I cannot praise the board enough for getting us away from those awful deals and the clutches of people with their own interests not aligned with the club's best interests, and also I believe the money they have invested in the squad window by window has been a really positive step forward for us. However we will not win the domestic title without the right man in charge, and that above all else is what should be all-consuming for our DoF and the football board. Under no circumstances (even winning the next 7 games) should we be considering Murty to be our new permanent manager to take us into the Euro qualifiers in the middle of the World Cup and into next season. The evidence of this being far too big, too soon for him is overwhelming and must already be decided by those involved that a change is a must. That's the easiest decision they have to make over the next month. The hardest decision, ie who to bring in, is the one they really must get right. Good luck to them as I dont fancy having the decision to make myself!

  25. I'm glad he is admitting to himself that he is not of the quality to play for us, and will have to move on to continue his playing career. I wish him well and hope he finds another club that works for him. My problem this season (and last for that matter) is that with Miller in the first team squad there has been no place for Ryan Hardie, who has been farmed out on loan to Livvy and helped them go from mid-table to second place, and I wish we could have given him the game time that Miller received this season and we may just have seen better results in the first half of the season. Miller should have had 5 on Saturday, and, typically, scored with the hardest chance of the 5 while missing easier chances to put the game to bed earlier than we eventually did. His third spell at the club has, IMO, been an unmitigated disaster but thankfully this now appears to be coming to an end. Have him on the bench on Sunday, but by no means can he be a starter or we are giving a man advantage to an already better team than us.

  26. It's just to feed the enormous ego that is Rodgers. He wants to go down as the guy who was in charge when they won the title against us at their own midden. Purely for selfish egotistical reasons, he couldnt give a jot about his rabid fans or anything else.

  27. The bottom line is , we are where we are due to the boards failings to, 1. Appoint the D of F role that they desperately wante , and 2. Appointing Pedro . They take the praise for getting us out of the grasp of Green and Ashley , so they nee to take the stick for getting their managerial appointments so badly wrong . I also hold my hands up as I was a massive Warburton fan .

  28. It would make him a hero if they won the title against us. It makes it an event that goes down in history and that's why he wants it. It will instead be a very underwhelming title win, won by the incompetence of the competition as much as anything else. Quite incredibly after last season, Celtic were actually there for the taking this season and it's a crime that we couldn't run them closer or even take advantage.

  29. Good on him for wanting to keep playing and I think the vast majority of Rangers fans would give him a big thanks for his time with the club and wish him well, but let's hope it's with Kilmarnock or Hearts. We need a leaner, higher quality and higher potential squad. Miller is fine but he's not a player who's going to help us catch Celtic next season and he's one of many who should make way at the close of the season so we can sign a few quality players, and leave space on the bench for at least a couple of youth players (for example Middleton). Miller and Herrera on the bench means no chance for those young guys to come through and Celtic have been far more successful than us at doing that and are reaping the benefits.

  32. I am not sure retiring makes you a couch potato. Most people who retire had more time to do things when they were working. Your social contact may be less but retired people tend to be busier doing things for themselves as they ever did for a boss.

  34. I get a feeling that Rodgers is entirely unconcerned about "showcasing" Scottish football but having nightmares that he could somehow still blow this with the winning post in sight. Two of the 5 he will be facing have already beaten him while another 2 have taken points from him in games which he was arguably fortunate to take a share of the spoils. If memory serves only the sheep of the 5 have taken nothing from him. Maybe he should be wishing for them first.

  39. My question was a rhetorical one. But Erchie could no doubt tell us who replaced who, led to this and that etc., etc. Look at the calibre of Rangers supporting ex-players that they choose to employ. Tells a story. That's before you even get to editorial control and equal opportunities as an employer.

  40. Likewise I expect a rise of up to 10% max given how we must continue to invest in the squad and we must expect to stump up if we want improvement in our playing squad. However, the ridiculously early release of the renewals while we stumble and struggle along with a cheap youth coach in charge is another slap in the face to the support who have amazingly sold out just about every game this season despite the boards acceptance last October that the season was done when giving Murty the gig till May. Announce the appointment of an appropriately qualified and suitable manager and watch the fans renew in droves, but please don't take us for granted like Murray always used to do and just assume the mugs will blindly pay up again and again and just accept any old tosh thrown our way. PS I will of course renew anyway, so all I can really do is wait until the last day before doing so. So count me in with the mugs.
