Was mis-used after his first season at Ibrox, where he essentially had Arfield`s job in supporting the attack. Made many decent runs into the box and had a healthy goal and assist return. As our defence became ever more vulnerable, he did the donkey work in midfield for ages then, hampering his forward movement. That`s how I see it. Come this summer, he will have Docherty and Arfield all vying for that slot, possibly other chaps too. As we have seen, seasons can be long and with Europe coming early again, one wonders what will happen to him till the end of the transfer window. In any case, no bad word about him will come from this Bear. He`s one of the few lights that shone during our return to the top, came when we needed him and gave his all.

McCoist's judgement of players, and hence of their values, is, at best questionable, as the experience of his signings bitterly tells us. Stop Press: Diego Costa has received an eight (8) game ban for grabbing the referee by the arm, and insulting the official's mother. Apparently, four (4) games for each offence. Maybe he insulted the Whistler's Mother, because nobody knew who his father was.

So say 4 games for grabbing or verbally abusing a ref. To my mind referees should indeed have that level of protection but Alfie gets 4 games for doing little to nothing to broonaldo who deserves nothing but an actual dooing.

These threads are fun, but they're always skewed by age. Some of the guys most of us never saw play must have been spectacular. Alex Smith played 406 times for Rangers, retiring in 1915, Sandy Archibald and Dave Meiklejohn both played well over 500 games at a time when medical treatment was considerably poorer than it is for professionals today. Guys like Alan Morton, who features in what I think is the most iconic photograph of any Rangers player, amassed 31 caps for Scotland in a period when we only played 3 matches a season. What a player he must have been. During the 1960s we had a side that made two European finals, we could genuinely say we had world class players. Baxter most people know about, but players like Willie Henderson, Ralph Brand and Bobby Shearer are largely overlooked these days. Even players who don't only appear in black and white, like Jardine, Derek Johnstone, the always underrated Willie Johnston, a man who scored 2 goals in a European final and was genuinely a player who would get you up off your seat when he got the ball, and Tommy McLean another player who we forget as a player only remember the crabit, negative manager now. Plus how can any Rangers select not feature John Greig? 755 appearances, captain of club and country, treble winner, European winner, a player who stayed with us for his entire career when players of his ability were in huge demand in England. Scored a ton of goals too which meant his name reverberated around my primary school playground. DJ definitely benefited greatly from Wee Tam's delivery. The memory of McLean crouching over a free-kick and Johnstone waiting close to the penalty spot is a good one. So is the understanding between Jardine and Russell.

Nae luck for the lad. Looking at the general situation re. Holt with a cold business heid, I can't understand why we gave him an extension to 2020. That isn't to do with the injury, more his level as a footballer. I'd have thought that whilst he did a decent job at certain levels that we'd have seen ourselves as needing to look for better come summer 2019.

There is a rumour that the suits, etc. at Atletico Madrid have had enough of Diego Costa, a Master who could write a Doctorate on Petulance and Other On and Off the Ball Antics, and that he will be asked/made to depart, this Summer. Morelos is not on the same page as Costa, but I suspect that he could fill the boots.

Nae chance ! PSG have become serial bottlers in the KO stages of the CL. Barcelona are very good and consistent at beating inferior sides at home in the CL. Unless he can start to better control the discipline his value will drop. For him personally, I think he needs to get out of Scotland where his card is marked by the media and officials.

Surprised Hateley hasnt been mentioned so much. He was absolutely brilliant. One guy who was possibly under rated - Gordon Durie. A very good servant.

Was having second thoughts about him though, and whether to replace him with Tav, but given Hutton did it in the CL, I sided with him.

It's a shame that he got punished for showing passion and for being unwilling to accept a pathetic performance against Celtic, unlike others at the club.
