  1. It's amazing what a good performance and result does to your mood.

  2. Yeah, I think you're spot on there. Defoe is the perfect role model for Morelos: cool, collected, doesn't get involved, doesn't lose his temper, is a brilliant worker and trainer, but also has that technique and ruthless efficiency that would take Alfredo to another level.

  4. A very resounding victory after a very slow and pedestrian start. Ryan Jack was immense again today and in felt Barisic put in another decent performance too. Yet again though the main talking point is the goal that wasn't a goal yet the our penalty claim seems to have been forgotten about.

  5. I thought that Jack Ryan was formidable; his best outing since 'The Hunt for Red October'.

  6. Meant to add what another good game from Barisic, I have been very critical of him since he signed so I don't mind praising him when he has done well, two matches on the trot he is playing like the Croatian full back that he is, hopefully he has turned the corner

  7. It's a joy to watch such great football. I actually enjoyed the slick passing in the first half despite us not carving out any decent chances. Helander and Barisic are really working for me on that left side. Other than the one lapse which allowed Stevie May to lay off to MOH, I thought Helander was solid again. Barisic is like a new signing. Please please make this the turning point in his Rangers career because in this form he's the left back we've all been desperate for. Jack, Davis and Aribo just eased through the game. Jack once again in particular is our star man in midfield. There's no wonder we are putting him on an extended contract because there must be plenty of scouts watching him these days. I never thought he had this level of performance in him (based on last season), but his development in the last six months is something I've never seen in any player we've ever had. And talking of improvements, there's no doubt Alfie is class, but to see him perform like this on the pitch, and then see him with a smile on his face and applauding Defoe as he scores is just so heart warming. Has Defoe just turned our £15m man into a £30m player? It looks like he might just be the role model Morelos needed because the bond between them looks to be so strong. Tav had a decent game today but you can see his confidence isn't here at the moment. It does however show some his mental qualities as a captain because despite this very obvious dip in from he's still trying to drive the team forward when we were clearly stuck at 0-0. Finally, I was delighted that Goldson got on the scoresheet today. The guy makes mistakes but you can see he gives it his all every time he's on the pitch and that's obviously why the manager likes him. Katic is a fans' favourite understandably, but Goldson rarely lets us down so the reaction he gets from some is unfair. Another tough 3 points on the board after a tough game in Europe, and an excellent second half performance too. I'll take that every week please.

  8. Defoe made his second goal look easy but that was actually extremely well taken. Fast and struck through a relatively narrow gap he carved out.

  9. While controversy will surround referring decisions by Andrew Dallas for the third and forth goals, the game was long gone as a contest at that point. Still, the referee didn't cover himself in glory after failing to see Murray Davidson's shot had crossed the line and missing that Jermain Defoe's run for the fourth had narrowly strayed offside. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-match-reports/st-johnstone-vs-rangers-live-20141825

  10. Alfie seems to have taken a real shine to Defoe and that’s good news. Perfect role model for him.

  11. I thought Barasic was good, along with Aribo, who has struggled recently. Jack again ran the game.

  12. Barasic is looking confident now, which is nice to see. I would much rather he was decisive and it not come off for him -- make the tackle, get the cross in, go past your man etc. --, rather than being indecisive, as he was.

  13. Not overly surprised the team hasn't been changed too much. We have a game on Wednesday where more large-scale changes can be made. Winning today is vital so makes sense to retain the bulk of our best players.

  14. So "naughty words" result in 3,000 people being unable to attend the game - but the potential of actual physical harm results in a paltry fine. UEFA aren't fit for purpose !

  17. A good win today after a very disappointing first half where we could easily have gone in at half time behind. I still think we’re struggling to break down packed defences but hopefully a fully fit Kent will go some way to sorting that out.

  19. I thought Dallas reffed the game well for a change. His willingness to play advantage was refreshing. But not giving that penalty was beyond incompetent. Oh and what a star we have in Ryan Jackson just gets better and better.

  20. You might spend all day, and all night, thinking about Celtic but we are not scheduled to play them for months. Morelos is going to be concentrating on winning the next match he plays in.

  21. Not true! last season we beat Separate Entity FC on aggregate, the results against other teams cost us the league

  22. Alfredo is now excellent at the build up play and to be honest I don't care I feel he never scores against them, as long as someone else does.

  23. Think he just fractionally kept it out but what difference does it make at the end of the day. We were always winning this.

  24. There is a huge advantage to staying for the part in the Dordogne, well other than the opportunities afforded by next door's truffle pig. I cannot hear Pacific Quay CSC whine and moan. Thus, good second half professional performance. The ball moved out to in a lot quicker. The controversy over the Saints goal/not goal will occupy the minds of Big Dick and Michael Stewart, burying our legitimate penalty claim. Another Ryan Jack masterclass and Defoe is the epitome of a professional football player.

  25. Jack outstanding again, MOTM, Defoe was excellent as was Morelos. Davis was excellent as well

  26. Job done, took its time, as usual, but once these teams open up we get chances. Could have been more with Aribo heading unto the bar and Arfield through the masses and being denied by the goalie. But Goldson's header essentially secured the game, Defoe's couple was the icing on the cake. Good for morale and goal difference. A bit strange for Dallas and the linesman to spot the ball not being over the line ... when they missed Davidson clear handball ... no matter inside or outside the area.

  27. Obviously the opening goal made all the difference as the game opened up after that and we took advantage by playing the ball quicker and took the chances when they came along. Dallas did well at the opener to play advantage (not sure if the tackler was booked but should have been) but to not give a penalty for the handball is unforgivable. Even the BT Sport ref thought it was and that's unusual when it comes to us. After that Davis did brilliantly on the line to block what looked like a certain goal and squeaky bums for the last 5mins but we went up the park and scored two superb goals, though Defoe's second looked offside.

  28. Gerrard must have given Aribo a bollocking at half-time, because he's playing like a man possessed. His strength and power, pace is almost impossible to stop at times.

  29. A decent first 20mins or so but far too pedestrian again after that. We don't seem able to get our attacking players in the game often enough whilst the likes of Aribo isn't dealing at all well with any physical attention. Ojo looks our most dangerous player but lacks that final ball. We also need more from our full backs to stretch the game and from Davis and Jack instead of giving the ball too often to Helander and Goldson.

  31. Does Morelos find it impossible to chip the goalie? Number of times he goes for power and hits the keeper☹️

  32. Only one thing worries me about today: there will be more clogwearers on show than there were on Thursday.

  33. Absolutely agree about Helander. It could be that SG sees the combination of Goldson and Helander as first picks for European games and is giving them an opportunity to build up their relationship.

  34. I suspect SG will make changes where he believes certain players need greater recuperation time and retain those players he believes are fresh enough for the game.

  35. The result's irrelevant in this: you responded to a post about the difference in performance, to which you responded 'it was because SG had 5 central midfielders'. I'm suggesting that's nonsense, and quite a lazy argument. (For me, It's the same as those that complain about us having "three sitting midfielders in a home game", which completely fails to understand the way the game is played. I'm not suggesting you hold that opinion.) Ojo contributes very little to the performance. He is not the difference. Our pressing game against Feyenoord does not rest upon Ojo being included or not; it's too complex for that. Against Celtic, SG brought on Ojo with 45 minutes to play -- and then Jones with 25 minutes to play -- where was the reversal in performance? Where was this awesome performance that relies on 4 central midfielders instead of 5? That's laughable. The inclusion of Ojo does not suddenly get the other 4 midfielders pressing and winning 50/50s. It misunderstands the work that goes into a pressing game. The criticism should be for SG's inability to work out the press against Celtic, and for the players for showing a distinct lack of fight.
