  2. Watched the live broadcast with Nippy having to repeat her stance and disgust, at Calderwood, over and over again at the questions from basically every newspaper group As far as Calderwood is concerned in claiming she made a mistake, did she not consider once during the near 50 mile journey that she was making a mistake and turn around?. No she stuck her two fingers up at the people she was preaching to to stay home.No matter wahat amount of grovelling she does she should be told not asked to stand down. Also if I were a holiday/caravan owner and had been fined for trying to use I most certainly would be claiming a refund plus compensation as she has got off Scot free.

  4. So, Catherine Calderwood...... The question: What is greater: A. Your stupidity, or B. Your arrogance? (The smart money says: It's a close run thing, but arrogance is shading it.) Scotland's chief medical officer faces calls to resign over lockdown breach Catherine Calderwood apologises after visiting second home despite issuing advice to ‘only go out when necessary’ https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/apr/05/scotland-chief-medical-officer-seen-flouting-lockdown-advice-catherine-calderwood Scotland’s chief medical officer, Catherine Calderwood, has been urged to resign after she was photographed with her family visiting her second home in Fife having issued advice to avoid travel. Calderwood was forced to apologise after being pictured on Saturday with her family taking a walk with their dog through the East Neuk, a picturesque area of Fife on the Firth of Forth, about 45 miles from her main home in Edinburgh. She had previously told the public: “To help save lives, stay at home.” Scottish Labour’s health spokeswoman, Monica Lennon, said that Calderwood’s position was untenable. She said her “actions have undermined Scotland’s pandemic response and her own credibility. Unfortunately, it means she cannot and should not continue in her role.” Advertisement That call was echoed by the Liberal Democrats, with Willie Rennie, the Scottish party leader and a local MSP, saying it seemed impossible for Calderwood to remain in her post because she had clearly broken her own instructions. Rennie and Wendy Chamberlain, the Lib Dem MSP for North East Fife and a former police officer, said government officials such as Calderwood had to command public confidence at a time of crisis. “If we are going to get through this pandemic we need medical leaders who everyone can follow. It is with great regret that we say that the chief medical officer will need to go,” they said. Coronavirus: the week explained - sign up for our email newsletter Read more In a statement, Calderwood apologised and acknowledged that the trip had been an error of judgment, but refused to resign. She said she had a job to do advising ministers on tackling the virus and supporting the medical profession. “While there are reasons for what I did, they do not justify it and they were not legitimate reasons to be out of my home. While I and my family followed the guidance on social distancing at all times, I understand that I did not follow the advice I am giving to others, and I am truly sorry for that,” she said. “I know how important this advice is and I do not want my mistake to distract from that, [and] having spoken with the first minister this morning I will continue to focus entirely on that job.” Calderwood issued a public information film last week where she urged people to avoid all unnecessary travel. In the Scottish government video, she said: “This is a vital update about coronavirus. To help save lives, stay at home. Anyone can spread coronavirus. Only go out when absolutely necessary for food, medicine, work or exercise... Stay home. Protect Scotland’s NHS and save lives.” Police and politicians include Matt Hancock, the UK health secretary, have warned people not to needlessly visit parks or recreation areas to sunbathe or have outings over the Easter period. Rennie said residents in Earlsferry, the village where Calderwood has a second home, were irate that large numbers of visitors had defied the lockdown order by going to their holiday homes or turning up for walks. Rennie and Chamberlain said tensions were running high in the area. “Local people are irate that holidaymakers and second home owners have ignored the warnings from the chief medical officer to stay at home. The main street was described as being like a motorway and many second homes are full up,” they said. “There is real concern that with a swollen population and a virus sweeping through the local health services will just not cope.” The Scottish government said on Saturday that Calderwood had been checking the property was secure. “Since this start of this epidemic, the CMO has been working seven days a week preparing Scotland’s response,” a spokesman said. “She took the opportunity this weekend to check on a family home in Fife as she knows she will not be back again until the crisis is over. She stayed overnight before returning to Edinburgh. In line with guidance she stayed within her own household group and observed social distancing with anyone she was in passing in the village.” Last Thursday Calderwood tweeted a photograph of her family clapping NHS workers outside their main home in Edinburgh, about two and a half miles from St Andrew’s House, the Scottish government headquarters where she and Nicola Sturgeon deliver their daily briefings on the pandemic. Scottish National party politicians including Ian Blackford, the party’s Westminster leader and a Highlands MP, have called for legal powers to be used to stop second home owners or visitors from travelling to rural areas during the lockdown. “With Easter almost upon us it is worth reminding everyone of the emergency powers that restrict non-essential travel,” Blackford said last week. “That means no tourists should be coming to the Highlands and Islands. If anyone owns a second or holiday home, they should not be using the Highlands to self-isolate and powers exist and must be used to stop this.” Since you’re here...

  9. I have never sat and watched a re-run of a match (in its entirety) but I'm going to make an exception for this. We were terrific that day. Ferguson's free-kick and the last minute winner will live with me forever. The mass exodus at their end was quite something too (they're quite efficient when they put their minds to it).

  10. If she has been appointed by that lot, I wouldn't have any faith in her anyway. Her reply to a fairly straightforward question on the news a week or so ago showed she shouldn't be in this role. And don't get me started on her multi-coloured jacket!

  11. She is the face of the SNP instructing the public to observe the "lock-down" she went on consecutive weekends(did she forget something the first time) so IMO it is totally irresponsible. I too have left the house1) To collect messages and 2) With my wife for a short walk along the street for exercise and fresh air, both of which comply with the dialogue of Calderwood. When I now see her on TV i have lost all faith in anything she says a mistake can be made once but not twice in a row.

  12. I'm no fan of the SNP and Calderwood seems another poor appointment (unsurprising, given their membership and politicians are a collection of professional victims, imbeciles and charlatans) but I think the reaction to her trip is bit much. How do we know she didn't have to go to her second home to collect or do something? If you drive from one property to another, you don't necessarily come into contact with anyone (apart from those travelling with you), so where's the harm in what she has done? I haven't stayed at home for a whole day during this 'lockdown' (mainly going to work and buying food) and don't think anyone should have to, providing we all act sensibly.

  14. A second slogan now. “Sco’lan’ Against Coronavirus” (Where’s everybody else gone?) But in the spirit of the Clans, I’m willing to play a part against the enemy. But again in the spirit of the Clans, only if I can stand on the right of the line and nobody else gets to take a banner. Otherwise I’m off home.

  15. There's a body of thought that Calderwood was a strictly political appointment. In a viral epidemic you have to question why it isn't a virologist or an epidemiologist or a microbiologist leading our scientific and medical advisors. Where for example is the world-acclaimed Prof Hugh Pennington during this crisis? Isn't he sufficiently compliant with SNP politicking?

  16. Self Interest is Best. Forty six people died yesterday in Scotland, cause of death was Covid 19. For the third week running, 'Off the Ball' had Jason Leitch, Scotland's National Clinical Director as a guest. It's a good call, it allows someone with important things to say about all our welfare, to reach a different demographic. Professor Leitch has excellent communication skills, he says what he means, and means what he says. He relates his boyhood experiences at Broomfield, whilst getting his health message across. The fly in the ointment is once again, DrStu', determined to utilise Leitch's appearances with making political capital. Last week, DrStu' asked Leitch his view on Prince Charles being tested at Balmoral, whilst front line health staff still had no access to testing. Leitch side-stepped the question with the ease of old Airdrie winger, Billy Wilson going around a full back. He is a health professional with a message and he knows he will be compromised by straying into obvious political matters. Yesterday, DrStu' undeterred, praised the First Minister in her handling of the crisis, "she hasn't put a step wrong and I feel Scotland is comparatively emerging from this in a better state"? Again, Leitch dummied the clown and drifted on to his next message. DrStu' introduced his son, Jack into the discussion and asked if he could still provide an Easter Egg hunt for the lad? Leitch replied no problem as long as the exercise was confined to home and garden. Of course, DrStu' has numerous properties around the Globe and I am sure he won't make the mistake of visiting any of his second homes to plant eggs. It's a pity, Scotland's Chief Medical Officer, Catherine Calderwood did not heed the advice she provides a dozen times per day in the broadcast media, 'Stay at Home'. She chose to visit her Fife holiday home in Earlsferry yesterday, just as DrStu' was getting excited about comparatives. As stated before, when DrStu' gets excited, he becomes garrulous. Michael Stewart is a guest too, and DrStu' is anxious to flash his nationalist credentials. His social media feed has, 'Langside Susan' and Gerry Braiden on it, he reveals. Glasgow City Council Leader, Susan Aitken and the SNP's PRO in Glasgow, Gerry Braiden, could help in hiding Easter Eggs, Susan could give you access to her husband's Art Gallery space at the Trongate, you know the one he gets to rent from the Council for a single pound per year? Maybe, Gerry can tell us the spin on Councillor Alex Wilson leaving his wife and two autistic children for fellow Nationalist Councillor, Mandy Morgan? You know social distancing, stay at home, and no visiting. Comparative studies will bite you on the arse. The very attempt to make political capital, the so called couthy Perth lad is so out of touch. J'accuse, take a walk along Edinburgh Road, it's the continuation of Alexandra Parade you often talk about whilst walking your son to school. A mile along and you will come to Burlington Court, an elderly Care Home. Last week, 13 folks perished due to Covid 19 in that very establishment. They had no access to hospital, how does that compare DrStu'?

  17. Just seen on BBC news site that Calderwood who is on several times an hour spouting out the stay at home message etc. was photographed going to her "second home". MUST HAVE BEEN OK BECAUSE SNP SOURCES SAID SHE KEPT HER SOCIAL DISTANCING. TWO FACED BASTARDS THAT THEY ARE.

Sutton is a useless, inconsistent pundit as his comments above Liverpool not getting the EPL title but the yahoos should get the SPFL title proves. Hartson is another with his nonsense about the respect Rangers would get if they conceded the title. When David Graham starts his new job he’s got a busy IN tray....

  23. I’m sorry but why the fuck are footballers treated any differently to any other man or woman , their contracts are exactly the same in principle , these people earn more in a week than some guys earn yearly , yet we some how feel sympathy for them or give them a bye . In situations such as the one we are going through they should be leading from the front , if things go badly across Europe , many will simply have their contracts ripped up as lucrative Tv deals are cancelled and clubs go to the wall. This is situation is not going to end anytime soon .Even when the infection rate slows , public gatherings will be slowly introduced and monitored, the idea that 50, 000 people can make their way to a single destination and interact with god know how many people is just ridiculous . UEFA have shown themselves up to be way behind the 8 ball on this one .
