  1. Borna could perhaps have done better but prior to the cross both he and a Hibs player jumped for a ball which they both missed and this resulted in the ball going to the wing where Boyle? was free. Borna went to cover Boyle and perhaps could have got in a block but I think equally damaging here was that no Rangers picked up the Hibs scorer who had too much space in the box. As pointed out Davis was close to the goal and Arfield was behind the Hibs scorer, so basically he was not picked up. In the second Hibs goal you might argue that it all started with a poor ball by Goldson but then Tav had an opportunity to clear the ball but did not and then failed to stop the cross. I don't think Helander was at fault as the Hibs player had the run in and was jumping off that whereas Helander had a standing jump and this made it difficult to compete with the Hibs scorer. Overall, our defence did not appear as solid as usual and wondered if at times because we are so attack minded that when we are playing in a more open game, rather than against a low block, we leave ourselves open to counter attacks. In other parts of the game I thought we played some nice football but either just lacked that cutting edge or missed chances we should have taken. It was good to see Morelos scoring but I find him a frustrating player as his holdup and layoff play oscillates between being good and dire. With Roofe injured I don't think I would like him to leave especially since at the moment Itten still seems to be finding his feet.

  2. There's a significant difference between Sweden and the UK that few seem prepared to acknowledge. Sweden has, in general, exercised far better transmission control through social distancing, personal hygiene, etc. It's one thing having rules in place but if the grunts are intent on ignoring them then there are only two options left - chaos or lockdowns. If there is another lockdown then the main cause of it won't be misguided government policy. It will be the failure or refusal of a large section of society to conduct themselves with a modicum of discipline and social responsibility. We don't have to have lockdowns or to further damage the economy but we will unless people grow up.

  3. Ra Bhoy in Corduroy is really pulling out all the stops to attract Rangers supporters to his new podcast, ‘Pressbox’. His first broadcast had Kevin McKenna, Jum Spence, and a Gordon Waddell as guests. The second promoted Michael Stewart as his exclusive guest. The third is boasting Angela Haggerty and Harry Brady (administers the Celtic Underground website). Next, as guests, it will be the guys sitting either side of him at ra Stade ra Gadd.

  4. Is this how football fans see football? the team is under-performing, i need to start screaming Laughable really. I suppose that is what many fans do at matches or when watching on television. I just don't know why anyone imagines that a manager should do it.

  5. I don’t know what your point is. Are you imagining that it doesn’t happen?? Having recovered from being a goal behind, and in front, he should be reminding the players to keep their shape, stay focused, concentrate, you see it all the time. They needed that instruction yelled at them, since they were not able to think it for themselves, or god forbid we had a captain or two to keep them straight. Your post is belittling as well as baffling.

  6. Talking about being ready for the fray, steak and gravy pie by Fray Bentos is most apt. Lots of flaky pastry with very little steak and gravy. The just about sums up Spiers.

  7. The last nine years have left deep and lasting wounds among a significant section of the Rangers support, who show all the symptoms of fractured confidence. It’s not that having confidence guarantees trophies but it does tend to prevent embarrassing flights of panic and depression .... the sort of anxiety that thinks a manager screaming at his players from the touch line is the solution to any setback.

  8. When the Rangers team performs as poorly as the referee, it drops points.

  9. The most worrying thing here was the timing of these dropped points. Bottle has been a major point of discussion due to the fact that the 3 or 4 times Rangers have gone top of the league in the past couple of seasons, we have dropped points in the very next game and handed the theoretical top spot straight back to Celtic. This was a different situation but pretty much the same, Celtic win yesterday and this was the first time we are in a position where if we don’t win, we cede 1st position to them and, lo and behold, we do. So mentality is a concern again this season. On the actual game, the failure to hold a lead with half an hour left is really not good enough. Walter’s team knew not to risk too much when you are in that position, especially away from home. Those are my biggest concerns. I’m not hugely concerned about the individual performances. Though it is good to see Arfield proving people wrong again. He can play with his back to goal and link up play in tight spaces which some of our attacking midfielders can’t really do. He is still a quality player. It was of course good to see Kent get his first league assist since February 19. Why can’t the manager see how effective he could be on the right? With his pace he could be getting to the byline all the time.

  10. Agreed WBD - disappointing to see our "Iron curtain" defence was more curtains than iron - Young, Shaw & Woodburn they most certainly are not.

  11. I know we have covered the Tav thing in the past but again today his mistakes/crossing and most of all decision making were again poor. The mistake and crossing were obvious but the decision making shown in the last few minutes was when we had a free kick a few yards outside the box.The position was tailor made for a Borna attempt but what does our glorious captain do takes it and floats a beautiful cross straight to their keeper, definitively change needed IMO.

  12. Yep, I did the positive post thing after the Livi game, you know, blaming the hellish surface and anti-football, and that it was only August... Today, I'm not in such a mood. To be honest, I was overly confident on getting a result today. I let myself be fooled by the clean sheet record and that we were still top of the league (although that slipped away just before kick-off) despite having never really found 3rd gear in any of our games to date. Now I see the reality, the one I chose not to sneak-a-peak at earlier, and I now realise that we are a long way off being title challengers. We don't have the metal to find that one goal that will show we can fight...and win when up against it. Since the first game, Aberdeen away (when maybe we were just not a rusty as they were), the two biggest challenges we've faced have been Livi and Hibs away, and we failed to take the 3 points from either. Don't get me wrong, there IS a long way to go. We play them in a few weeks, and a win there will set us up nicely for some deja vu and another chance to get excited about it being our year. And that'll give me some more hope until we fall at beechers again. I'll never learn.

  14. Yes we do. It’s the main priority and I think two top midfielders are needed. We probably need the Morelos money if we’re to really improve this team.

  15. Agreed Bill, Jack seems to be out for prolonged periods every year as well, we definitely need more options in there

  16. Fault lies with the centre midfielders, either Kamara or Davis had to pick him up. It's schoolboy stuff leaving Doidge wide open, it was the only way they were going to score.

  18. Go back and watch the first goal again. Watch Davis instead of Barišić. He runs for the line and leaves the scorer wide open. If you still need more persuasion then think about how often we put a cross into the box without scoring. A well positioned defence doesn't need to worry about letting crosses in.

  19. Go back and watch the matches where we dropped points last season. McDairmid park for example. Katic falls short in other ways.

  20. I look at the league race like the Derby weve came out the stalls well made a good start but the race is just two furlongs gone the favourites are tucked in behind us the race doesn't unfold until they come round Tattenham corner on to the downhill on to the home straight until we reach the winning line in front of the stand . There's still ten furlongs to go no need for panic.

  21. Still don’t understand why the Rangers goal at the end is disallowed. Where’s the foul to hibs?

  22. It's perhaps a bit harsh to criticise Helander considering his overall good performance. If anything, it was our other central defender who found it hard to repeat his early season form.

  25. Didn't see it but have noticed that SG has updated news on Roofe as not being as simple as first thought so another on list and happens on plastic pitch.

  26. The difference between the teams today was their hunger - they were psyched up and defended like their lives depended on it. Our defense had no such ‘urgency’ it was almost complacent (perhaps our clean sheet record went to their heads) , which was very disappointing after coming from behind. It’s like we never learnt our lesson from their first goal. From the start of the second half I thought we had found a way to dominate and win, but then complacency set in and we threw it away. I was surprised not to see SG screaming from the touchline, after all the one benefit of empty stadiums is that coaches can make themselves heard. in looking for positives, I’d say better to learn our lesson now and go on another 3 game winning run
