  1. Why not? Against the sheep they were kicking things that didn't move and got away with it

  2. Switching Tracks. I caught the extra time and penalties of the Killie - St Boo Scottish Cup quarter-final on BBC Scotland's second channel. I feel everything is a lottery on the Rugby Park pitch, but my ghast was truly flabbered when PQ went straight over to the Scottish Cup semi-final draw, live. Hosting the draw was none other than Creepy Connie McLaughlin. You have got to marvel at the continual reciprocal agreement going on between BBC Scotland and ra Sellik. When Lennon's Sellik were turfed out of the Champions League last August in the qualifying rounds, it was decreed the problem lay in the players lacking mental toughness. This was resolved amid considerable publicity, a Consultant was brought in to Lennoxtown to work on both players and coaching staff. The Connie Choo-choo came around the bend, a steaming and a rolling. Connie has her own company, 'Inner Buzz' and she NEVER misses an opportunity to encourage everyone to rawk their inner buzz. Well, how did Connie's efforts do? In August, ra Sellik had all three domestic trophies and the Europa League to navigate. The tracks were laid down and Lennie the Tanked Engine strained for purchase. Two years past, BBC Scotland's second channel was launched in a flurry of publicity, it would provide programmes pertinent to new, modern Scotland. We have had the documentaries on Priest School, the First Communion, ............. etc. Why have we not had the documentary revealing the trials and tribulations of Creepy Connie doing her Casey Jones? I mean everybody loves a train wreck, don't they? Anyways, sustained by brotherly love, Connie emerges from the carnage to present the Scottish Cup draw. It shows as one green'n'grey hooped project hits the buffers, it's easy to change tracks and remain seriously Sellik minded at PQ. Seamless shunting in a yard full of Annie McGuire, Angela Haggerty, Jane Graham, Michael Stewart ... etc, everyone guaranteed a good standard of life. Choo-choo!

  3. Really? Thought st johnstone had a decent go and got what they deserved. They had 43% possession, won 7 corners and quite a few goal attempts. Hardly 11 behind the ball. In fact, as I'm sure you'll recall at one point they had 11 men in front of the ball.

  4. Is that not why they’re in the team?

  5. The fact is though that an Atlantic league is simply not realistic, everyone knows it would be fiercely opposed by UEFA and it would also be less popular with our own fans. I've seen a couple of polls among our fans on joining the English set up and both came out at about 70% in favour.

  6. We've won 83% of our games this season so far. So we can't be struggling too badly. Football would be a poor affair if all you did was turn up, score 6 by half time and showboat through the second half. It's meant to be a contest. We can't complain about the poverty of the SPFL and then also complain about how we struggle to win.

  7. we have lost 3 games. 2 with last minute goals involved. 1 on pens and one in the last 16 of europe. even our draws have largely been last gasp efforts more or less from the opposition. we have been massively successful

  8. I don't think there's any doubt Joe Aribo has been one of the big successes this season. If there's an occasional problem, perhaps it's that he's sometimes asked to play a role that's too deep to benefit from his creative abilities. If we have Ryan Jack or Scott Arfield (for example) available then I think there tends to be less frustration expressed about Joe Aribo.

  9. I feel like Aribo is the whipping boy now. What's that about? No one was good against St Johnstone.

  10. Hope you had a cheeky tenner on that. Good result for Chelsea, puts them in the driving seat. Under Tuchel they could be a force next season and will be challenging for the title. He will get a few of his own players in so will only improve. Ive been impressed by him.

  11. After defeats, I'm often left thinking about what we needed to win the game, in terms of players. With the season pretty much over, it's probably a good time to discuss our recruitment more widely. Defensively we look good. Okay--concentration last night was poor, but we have a very good back 5 with more than able replacements. In the attacking third, we had enough to win the game, but perhaps we could use another attacking player with a bit of pace? A pacey #10 or winger, maybe? We do have good forwards. I think--or perhaps hope--that Itten will get better after a season under his belt. We'll need to replace any that leave, though. It's funny, when we signed Zungu, most were saying that we didn't need any more central midfielders and that it was a waste of money (even if Zungu is not good enough). Last night we certainly needed it. A couple of injuries and we're lacking. Some energy in the middle would have been useful--even if just to move Aribo further forward. I think we could do with a box-to-box midfielder; someone in the Arfield mould. It's also in the middle that we can expect to lose some players too.

  12. I was thinking that, he would be a good fit if he could get a run of games. Also what about Drinkwater, if he can find his Leicester form he would be a nugget in midfield and probably get for a good price?

  13. Celtic's financial problems came later, largely by trying to keep up with Rangers while still being run like a local bowling club. Bosman and freedom of movement can't be overlooked DMAA, that has had a massive effect on football. Aberdeen had players like Willie Miller and Alex McLeish and they couldn't leave without Aberdeen agreeing, even if their contracts were up. Both of those players were exceptional, and could have played at a far higher level (to be fair they played at World Cups and in the latter stages of European competition so they did pretty well). Today a player like Miller or McLeish would have left Aberdeen by the time he was 21 with Aberdeen getting a nominal amount. It's led to wage inflation and agent fees spiralling to absurd levels and on balance has probably not been good for the sport overall. That said Aberdeen's salaries were pretty close to the salaries Rangers and Celtic were paying prior to Souness.

  14. I remember the Johnny Rotten bloke on television many years ago warning all of the predator Jimmy Savile yet nothing was done that wee bit out of the way it's a good job the next war will be a push button affair imagine depending on these tits defending the country,

  15. Yup. I dont think he has the strikers he wants. He dosen't like tall slower in box strikers so Giroud and Abraham may not be around next year.

  16. They did the same when Arsenal and Chelsea had to play in Baku. UEFA are just as bad as the ESL oranisers, corrupt and totally ambivilant towards fans.

  17. That’s interesting. Presumably, the gate receipts being split 50-50 went way back and though and this didn’t change the fact that the old firm always dominated, so it seems to me that it was the combination of exceptional managers at those clubs along with Rangers being cash strapped for a spell due to investing in Ibrox that were the primary causes. Celtic then had their own financial problems then of course which allowed the dominance to be challenged to another few years.

  18. Undoubtedly, which is why they receive more stick than others when we struggle. If you look at someone like Morelos, even if he's not scoring goals, his work rate and running are obvious and the support tend to cut him a bit more slack. I suspect many of us don't think Hagi or Aribo work as hard as Morelos, so when they're not producing their primary job; creating openings, then some feel they're not contributing anything.

  19. Martin Vander Weyer writing for the Spectator, 24 April: ”What should we make of the valuation of Coinbase, the cryptocurrency exchange listed on Nasdaq last week at $80 billion — three times the market value of Nasdaq itself? Coinbase’s stratospheric debut is clearly a reflection of the mania for bitcoin, currently trading at five times its price of six months ago. And that spike has in turn generated short-term profits for Coinbase, making it an attractive rarity among tech flotations that more often come to market long before they reach profit, which some never do. But is there a deeper message? Some say this is crypto’s coming of age, coinciding as it does with Rishi Sunak’s announcement of a Treasury-Bank of England taskforce to explore potential for a ‘central bank digital currency’ harnessing crypto-technology. Akin to that, some crypto-maniacs deride Coinbase as a sell-out to the mainstream: an exchange that operates within Wall Street’s regulatory framework rather than shunning state-led financial systems in the libertarian spirit of bitcoin’s founding legend. Cynics, meanwhile, watch the price graphs and predict an imminent bursting of the crypto-gambling bubble. To me, all this forms a vision of a virtual Las Vegas whose towers must one day fall, though perhaps not yet. The one thing to be said for investing in the likes of Coinbase is that it’s better to own a casino than to bet your savings on its tables and slot machines.”

  20. Last Sunday against St Johnstone proved we still struggle at times against teams who put eleven men behind the ball The Celtic game will be different

  21. Id have Giroud starting all day long with Havertz or Werner just behind him. If Werner finds his goalscoring touch that he had in Germany then he could be some player - you cant fault his effort and he gets into good areas. Giroud is two yards of pace short of been one of the best strikers but he has an incredible goalscoring record at club and international level. Unfortunately Chelsea are not far away from being an extremely good side under Tuchel. Hoping Man City get a good result tonight, pretty sure they would take a 1-1 also but PSG went to Munich and scored three so a 1-0 steal would be great.

  22. I think Aribo's problem is if he isn't creating chances he looks like he isn't doing anything. Hagi's like that too. I actually think both work hard when they don't have the ball and their movement creates space for others, but a lot of that is unseen and not always appreciated. Aribo was great against Celtic a couple of weeks ago, then less effective against a very defensive St Johnstone, but the whole side struggled to break St Johnstone down. I think to many of us look to Aribo, Kent and Hagi to provide the spark and inventiveness that wins those types of games.

  23. Wright, Kent and Arfield must start, the energy of these 3 will be too much for them, then Aribo introduced in the second half to roast the wee Uruguayan again.

  24. 1951/52 Dundee v Thirds and Motherwell v Hearts. No recollection whatsoever of the Cup that season apart from Rangers 6-1 Elgin City in the second round. Don’t even remember Rangers going out to Motherwell the eventual winners beating Dundee.

  26. Rangers were rebuilding Ibrox during the late 70s and early 80s, had Rangers been able to invest that money on players it might have been a very different time for us. Also home gate receipts were split 50/50 with the away side, an enormous benefit for every other side in the league, there was very little TV money and sponsorship and no one had thought of corporate hospitality yet. So while Rangers and Celtic were still the richest clubs the gap between us and everyone else was much smaller than now. Also the gap between salaries in Scotland and England was much smaller, the top sides in England were paying more but nothing like the difference we see now. Footballers contract's were very different too, there was no Bosman rule then, the club decided if you stayed or left, the player had far less say in it. This allowed clubs to keep good players for longer or cash in on them when they wanted. Lastly Aberdeen and Dundee Utd were managed by geniuses, something we can all hope never happens again!

  27. It's a difficult question actually. In order of priority: Centre midfield - I would love big money (if we have it) to be spent here. A strong player who can tackle but can build attacks too. Davis and Arfield will be a year older, Ryan Jack isn't available enough and when we play tough opposition Aribo seems to lack the aggression and defensive discipline we need. Striker - I think Morelos will leave so we will need to spend good money on a replacement. Roofe is like Jack, we can't rely on him being fit often enough. Itten is unproven still, particularly in terms of how much of a goalscorer he can be. I think he has shown quality in other areas of his game but we don't really know whether he can be a 20+ goal striker yet. Attacking midfield - With Kent, Hagi, Roofe, Aribo and Wright do we need a senior player here or just reinforcements? Stewart, Jones, Barker, Middleton leaving makes space for....yougsters McPake and Kennedy? Centre back? We are well-stocked but an injury to Helander (19-20 style) would leave me a bit concerned history would repeat itself. He ended that season with 22/24 league points and only 4 league goals conceded (despite only 2/8 of those being home games). This season Balogun has improved our record without Helander, though we've still conceded 10 goals in the 15 games when he hasn't played (3 conceded after he's been subbed), and only 6 in 24 when he has played and that includes 3/4 Celtic games and 3/4 Hibs games who have posed by far the biggest goal threat to us. Having said that, I don't think we can attract better back-ups than we already have. So in short, a big signing in centre mid and a big signing up front (if Morelos leaves) would leave me happy (I would prefer 1 big signing in centre mid than 2 signings). Sales to any of our current starters would obviously need replaced.
