  1. A pity we couldn't add another goal or two to our first half goals but, one or two mistakes aside, that was a decent display tonight and I hope the players take heart from it. Aribo a clear man of the match but I said before the game the manager was looking to rely on his experienced players and they all turned up as I thought Goldson and Tav played well, as did Davis and Morelos before we he went off. Plenty more to come but we move onto Sunday and other tough match.

  6. The Gherald's take is below. 'Garry Borland QC for the SFA said that the original court decision "flouted common sense". ' The Hearing was before Lord Carloway (et alia) the Justice who, i I r c, declared, (in)famously, citing that very commodity, 'common sense', that EBTs represented emoluments, and thus should be taxed. An interesting tactic, then, from the SFA's man. 20th October SFA pay the price as Rangers chairman Douglas Park wins legal dispute over SPFL £8m cinch sponsorship By Martin Williams @Martin1WilliamsSenior News Reporter SFA pay the price as Rangers chairman Douglas Park wins legal dispute over SPFL £8m cinch sponsorship https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/homenews/19660786.sfa-pay-price-rangers-chairman-douglas-park-wins-legal-dispute-spfl-8m-cinch-sponsorship/ THE Scottish Football Association is being forced to pay all costs after losing a fight to exclude a firm run by the Rangers chairman from an arbitration in the club's sponsorship row with the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL). In August, Rangers chairman Douglas Park, whose company has his own sponsorship deal with the club, claimed a court victory in blocking the SFA proceeding with the case against the Ibrox club. But Scottish football's governing body has be en seeking to have the Court of Session decision to grant an interim interdict overturned to stop Park's from being an interested party in the dispute over the Ibrox club's refusal to promote an £8m league sponsorship deal with used car retailer cinch. But the Court of Session appeal court has thrown out the SFA's challenge. Scottish football's governing body is now having to foot both its and Park's costs in the case. The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) asked the SFA to arbitrate after Rangers refused to promote car retailer cinch, citing an agreement they already have with Park's of Hamilton. The club have not displayed any cinch branding on players' shirts, nor on any advertising hoardings or media boards. The club claim the SPFL's rule 17 means they are not obliged to promote the sponsorship because they have their own pre-existing contract with Park's of Hamilton second-hand car dealerships. The SPFL referred the dispute to the SFA in August and an arbitration case was set to proceed, but the proceedings have now been placed under an interim interdict. The dispute resolves around a failure to include Park's in the arbitration process. The SFA argue Park's are not part of the jurisdiction of the governing body, should not be party to the dispute and should not be part of the arbitration process that it orchestrates. But a previous hearing ruled that Park's - a rival car retailer to cinch can take part in the arbitration process as an interested party. Garry Borland QC for the SFA said that the original court decision "flouted common sense". But Gavin McColl QC for Park's said the dispute was best resolved with all the parties that have an interest in the dispute being involved. He said it made "little commercial sense" for Park's to be "forced" to go to court to "seek to vindicate its contractual position". He added: "It is plain beyond any question that Park's is a party with an interest, a real patrimonial interest in the dispute." He said that the SPFL’s own rules show that Rangers is correct not to allow cinch branding at Ibrox. Lord Carloway, Lord President of the Court of Session and Lord Justice General of Scotland said there was "no reason" to reverse the original court's decision. The SPFL have previously warned the dispute could affect payments from the five-year deal with cinch, warning clubs the stand-off presented a "real and substantial commercial risk". Scotland's leagues had been without a title sponsor last season after the previous deal with bookmaker Ladbrokes ended. A letter to clubs said the SPFL board - on which Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson sits - had been trying to settle "this very serious impasse" to no avail. It also stated that Rangers have not provided the SPFL board with "sight of any pre-existing third-party contract" that would represent a conflict of commercial interest. After Mr Park's initial court victory Rangers accused the SPFL of adopting an "inadequate and antagonistic approach". It said the ruling "once again underlines ongoing concerns regarding the corporate governance and leadership of the SPFL". The club added: “These concerns are shared by many of the SPFL’s member clubs. We have complied with the SPFL’s own rules but today’s court hearing was one that could easily have been avoided if those responsible had adopted a more consensual and less confrontational approach. “The Executive of the SPFL required to carry out effective due diligence before entering into its contract with the new league sponsor. “Instead, an inadequate and antagonistic approach appears to have been adopted; one that it is hard to imagine is in the best interests of the SPFL’s member clubs.” Last month, judge Lord Braid heard advocate Lord Keen of Elie QC - who has been representing the SPFL - say that bosses at Rangers Football Club Ltd spoke to chiefs at cinch about renaming the club’s stadium earlier this year. The lawyer told the Court of Session that the organisations explored the possibility of calling the club’s home ‘the cinch Ibrox stadium.’ The club denied the claim. Following the hearing, a statement from Rangers read: “Cinch approached Rangers to discuss commercial opportunities in early 2021. “Rangers provided information on what opportunities might become available. This is common practice for our commercial team. “At no point did cinch offer any terms to Rangers. Contrary to the SPFL’s claims, no ‘negotiations’ took place."

  7. Over the piece morelos has more than chipped in with his goals. His record speaks for it self. The service to our main strikers this season has been appalling. No imagination or guile at all when we attack. The first half against Hearts was the only time this season i could actually say we looked like a team and i could actually see a game plan. Other than that we are bang average. Were still waiting on the team hitting form but i fear that the way were going hell will freeze over before that happens. Theres a few first team picks that need to step up to the plate very quickly. 1 goal in 9 league games isnt good enough for aribo and hagi isnt any better in that department.

  8. A 100 Year Old Bahamian Folk Melody. It began last week, Rangers released their new 150th anniversary strip. A tribute to the Gallant Pioneers, the minute long launch video was accompanied with appropriate mood music, 'Four Lads had a Dream'. Most folks will know the tune as the Sloop John B, popularised by the Beach Boys. Some will remember Gorbals own, Lonnie Donegan covering the song in the early sixties? The air is a traditional Bahamian folk song about a sunken ship, first published in 1916. The same melody is also utilised for the so called, 'Famine Song'. Glasgow University Senior Lecturer, Jeanette Findlay took to Twitter in her role as Chair of Call it Out. The former Secretary of the Irish Republican Bands Association labeled the tune "racist" stated the club's launch was, "pandering to racists" and concluded, "this is no accident". Four minutes later, BBC Scotland's Senior Journo, Margaret Gilmour re-Tweeted Findlay's opinion whilst liking it and, five minutes further on, Michael Stewart did similar. The usual suspects piled in and on. Angela Haggerty was in a state of fulmination. Michael took it further, made a few more Tweets linking the launch tune to those arrested whilst marching through Glasgow City centre on the morning of the last old firm game. Michael demanded explanation for his interpretation of club formal backing of intimidation? The high water mark of this latest outrage was reached when Fettes College educated Hibee and Herald Journo, Aidan Smith did two pieces; firstly explaining the furore, then reporting Michael's outrage. Humza, Dornan, Devine, ........ etc did not reinforce and the necessary momentum was lost. It was left to PQ's Hater-in-Chief, Stuart Cosgrove to attempt a resuscitation during Off the Ball. At one O'Clock on Saturday, there is usually a five minute chat with Big Dick on matters to be discussed on the upcoming Sportsound. DrStu' was already lamenting no Big Dick as Host, the Token Kenny Macintyre promised live coverage of five of the afternoon's fixtures, and being right across happenings at Ibrox. DrStu' pushed it, "any discussion on the underlying trends in Scottish football this week"? Kenny showed Cosgrove a straight bat thus the Saintee pushed, "looking forward to hearing Michael Stewart's take"? The Token told a tale of no Michael contribution. Michael over egging a rancid pudding should be put to a century old Bahamian folk melody. Chico the Clown. These last thirty plus years, BBC Scotland's Comedy Unit has relied heavily on the existence of Chick Young. Those who schooled with Chico at Bellahouston Academy tell of his love for Rangers. Chick began his journalistic career as a Cub-Reporter at the Rangers News, his first book was, 'the Rebirth of the Blues' a diary of the Souness first season as Rangers boss. Chick bought a Cabin Cruiser 25 years past, became Captain Calamity and, smelled the PQ wind lifting from the water. After enduring the navigation from Rhu to Cumbrae, Chick experienced a catharsis announcing he had become a Buddy - constantly articulating a life long devotion to St Boo. Cap'n Calamity has safely navigated passage to his eighth decade and rode the BBC Scotland waves last weekend by immersing himself in conspiracy theories. He wondered aloud on Sunday, "Sportscene showed us Porteous tackling Aribo last week, why no highlights of Aribo's launch into Cammy Devlin"? Chico was only following the joint Twitter outrage of Tam McManus and Michael Stewart. James McFadden answered the question, "I've seen the footage, the Ref' got it right with a yellow card". Unfazed, Chick set the tiller into the strong breeze, "St Mirren play Rangers next week and Jim Goodwin will want to avoid such refereeing". The eddies and currents swirled as the skipper pulled his anchored adorned cap over his pate. The discussion was Newcastle's predicted managerial vacancy. McFadden, Foster, Cricthon all agreed the Georgies would probably have Gerrard on their discussion list. The name, his record in Europe and, the manner of last year's Premiership victory would be in his favour. Kenny Macintyre added Gerrard had stated he would not get involved in the speculation because Steve Bruce was a good friend and in position. Chico went full Coco, "before Newcastle look at someone winning one out of nine trophies available, they should be looking at St Johnston's Callum Davidson". Chick should be sailing on a sea of sand, advising the Saudis. Tom Talks Tosh. Last night Angeball was retrieved from the slates and re-inflated. Sellik had done the fourth team in the Hungarian league and Tom Anguish was purring. It was unusual, Big Dick hosting with Tom adding colour. Where was Pat Bonner? Any game at Paradise requires Pat and Tom giving the blarney large, in stereo. Anyways, Tom made up for Pat's absence. At half time he dismissed Ferencvaros as, "playing for the draw" and speculated Sellik's possession stat'," would not be less than 25%"? Big Dick looked at the stats and relied, "it's 63%". Tom did not want to disrespect the statisticians, then went on to do just that. He reminded the listenership of how unique the event was, "it's three O'Clock on a Tuesday afternoon and there's sixty thousand here". Once Tom begins to polish a Sellik turd there's no stopping the Bhoy, "these supporters have had to put up with the whole Covid vaccination passport thing too". Talking of Vaccine Passports, BBC Scotland went big on both TV and radio with this. Chris McLaughlin, remember him? He conducted vox-pops for both mediums, taking to his fellow supporters of the green'n'grey pre-match. All were articulate, all praised with the Scottish Government approach and, all were willing to put up with anything furra Sellik. I don't know why Chris didn't just go into the PQ Canteen and interview members of the CSC which he Chairs? Tomorrow night, the current resident of the PQ naughty step is Richard Foster and he will watch Premier Sports in a studio and "be right across all events at Ibrox". There will be no vox-pops.

  9. The opening paragraph tells you all you need to know about the state of journalism in Scotland The SFA aren't being "forced" to play Parks and Rangers legal fees. The challenged a ruling and lost, the consequences means they are liable for the costs. Price for not knowing your own rules really.

  14. There's no doubting Roofe's quality but I don't the manager has found his best role in the team quite yet. I think him and Morelos can play together but they need Kent alongside them to be properly effective as a unit.

  15. I was nervous when he lost the ball in the middle of the park which prompted a counter attack, and then maybe could have scored the header before the goal. But he came alive and is looking good now.

  16. I think Aribo won the ball about 5-6 times in that first half. Superb. I think he just needs a bit more direction about what to do with the ball when he gets it.

  17. Encouraging signs from Morelos in the last 10 minutes there. So unlucky with the shot and some really good touches before that. Positive play from Hagi and Aribo tonight too.

  18. Fairly happy with that first half and we're certainly deserving of our lead. Some good football along with a wee bit of slackness now and again but we are playing OK by and large. Aribo has been superb but I still think he'd be even better if he moved it quicker at times. Alfie perhaps should have scored at the Roofe goal but was very unlucky with his snap shot that hit the post. Another goal in the second half would be nice...

  22. IMHO, Rangers managers should be able to change players and tactics when either fails. We persist far too long with the same system and same under-performing players, not least with favourites like Kent, Tavernier or Morelos. Previous laurels are for reference and history books, in the here and now we need players who are up for it. Waiting for Kent`s magical moment, that one or two good crosses from Tav or Morelos killer-instinct to return is nothing e.g. Sir Walter would have done as long as we do these days. And it costs us.
