  1. In 1909, when supporter’s of Rangers and Celtic suspected the clubs were colluding with each other to increase their revenue, both sets of fans nearly completely destroyed Hampden in response. That was following the replay of the Scottish Cup Final, which like the final also ended in a draw. There had been suspicions for a while both club’s directors were more interested in making money than listening to the support and replays were lucrative. In that instance the fans destroyed parts of the terraces, pulled down the goal posts, dug up large parts of the turf and set fire to the ticket boxes and turnstyles before mounted police were able to restore order. History doesn’t record if any tennis balls were thrown onto the park though. There was no second replay, the cup was declared void that season. Other than heavy fines for both clubs and much indignation from the media life pretty much carried on as normal afterwards. Following this match the term ‘Old Firm’ was popularised. The belief that both club’s directors were making decisions that were of mutual benefit while maintaining a pretence of extreme rivalry. In my experience boards of all businesses make poor decisions. For successful, well run companies these decisions are rare and when a poor one is made they’re recognised and remedied. Poorly run companies make more bad decisions than good ones and that usually results in their demise, sooner or later. But even the best run make bad decisions from time to time. Time will tell if the Sydney Cup turns out to be a bad decision or simply an unpopular one, the two aren’t always the same. There are some intelligent, successful people on our board. That doesn’t mean they won’t make bad decisions, it’s how frequently they make them we should be looking at. I suspect we can’t afford to pull out of this Sydney match as things stand, so the board will need to thole it for now. If we win the league and are guaranteed a Champion’s League windfall we might decide we can afford to take the hit. If we don’t I suspect this type of match will become a common occurrence each season. As others have said Bisgrove is simply doing his job, there’s no way senior people at the club didn’t know this would be unpopular with at least some of the support. In the end they know we’re unlikely to try and destroy Hampden, or Ibrox for that matter, and we’ll keep turning up, buying strips and TV subscriptions.

  2. You know what i meant. King is making trouble over the Australia love in for his reasons. I have mine for not wanting it. Park still has a chance to win this war but he is losing right now. As i said a while back I can handle the need for cash at every opportunity but not while they take the piss and treat us like dirt. I agree on Bisgrove. We need to be pulling out of this and telling folk it's because we can't be associated with a club like celtc. They should be untouchable from a commercial perspective and we should be leading that charge.

  4. Our commercial department is probably the best performing and most functional department at Ibrox, it's a beacon in a sea of ineptitude compared to the likes of PR and Communication, Hospitality, Ticketing, Customer Service etc. Bisgrove did his job this clusterf*&k lays at the door of others both below and above him in the pecking order. Oh and anyone who invested in Bitci should consider signing themselves in.

  5. To blame Bisgrove for this is akin to blaming Derek MacKay for the non ferries when neither has the remit to do what they're being blamed for. We are where we are not because as you claim Bisgrove failed to inform himself but because others who should know better failed to inform him. To absolve everyone bar Bisgrove of their responsibilities in this is frankly bizarre. Where was the leadership from the top in this? Where is what masquerades as the PR Department? Perhaps one day the powers that be will realise the utter folly of the perpetual penny pinching in this field, but I suppose as long as Graham's shouting "No Surrender" every now and again it'll appease enough.

  6. A few weeks ago I posted wholehearted praise for James Bisgrove and the work he was doing. But, please, don't insult each other's intelligence with posts trying to portray him as some kind of innocent functionary, a mere bystander in this debacle. Bisgrove is a director and, as such, is fully responsible for his own actions. It's clear to me that this friendly in Sydney was the work of Bisgrove, in pursuit of his agreed objectives, and that we are where we are because he failed to inform himself of the reaction of the support and has now dug his heels in so deeply that it's him or the game. It doesn't matter what others in the organisation should or could have done. Even in this age of self-serving snakery, this is the nature of accountability and the price of seniority. This is clearly Bisgrove's responsibility and his mess either to sort out of accept the consequences for. One thing is for sure, we are going to see what this particular director is made of.

  9. You think that your particular ignorance has to belong to everyone else too? Bisgrove is not a native of this parish, he simply isn't au fait with the realpolitik in the West of Scotland, those around him are non so more than our alleged head of PR and Communication and that's the main cause of the clusterf*&k lays. Tis exactly what you're doing.

  10. Internet pish, until any credible source reports otherwise . I couldn't care less what the deal is, the Sydney cup is an embarrassing howler, that the board aught to have foreseen. My question was, that aside, what are the other "lousy" deals that Bisgrove has brokered? Perhaps, RR was just referring to the Rolf Harris and using a plural, if so then fair enough, I just wondered if I had missed something.

  11. Buy agreeing to this needless match says to me the old firm is alive and well as long as there is money at the day's end . All scruples have gone out the window by teaming up needlessly with a club that wanted to see us out of football.

  14. I'm more annoyed at Castore than I am at the Australian debacle. As uncomfortable as it is for some to admit Bisgrove is good at his job, very, very good to deny that is churlish in the extreme. You want to sign top players, keep our best players, improve the facilities etc then Bisgrove (or another of his ilk) is fundamental to that.

  15. I may have posted this earlier in the thread, but given the strict restrictions in Australia I hope the club has had assurances any travelling employees/supporters have been guaranteed safe exit passage in the case of any covid escalation.

  16. It's been a colossal disappointment to see our directors tarnishing this special year. Talk about shooting ourselves in the foot. And still no semblance of a withdrawal or an apology.
