  1. Spoken like someone who hasn't been near a Rangers match.

  2. That's more like it. No moaning about what might have been. No scapegoats. Lets hope Hearts get a good doing.

  3. FWIW I genuinely believe we’d have won last night had Morelos been fit.

  4. As weird as it sounds but if the final was over two legs, I think we'd have won it! Manchester was a great experience but I think the majority of us knew Zenit were going to beat us. We can say Walter was to conservative in the final, but those were the tactics that got us there. Tonight, after knocking out Dortmund and Leipzig, we thought we had a chance, and we did. I'd say Frankfurt were better team than Leipzig and remember are unbeaten in Europe this season - that is some achievement. Off course players make mistakes, managers select the "wrong players" and wrong tactics, that's football. It's hard to accept domestically but at this level, we are punching way above our weight. The way European Football is structured and financed, Rangers aren't meant to be anywhere near the final. Time to dust ourselves down and get behind the team on Saturday - it's gonna be a tough and after tonight, but we need to go again. Thanks for the memories in this season's EL I for one will certainly cherish them.

  5. Everyone is rightly distraught tonight but you're absolutely right- this isn't the time for mudslinging. Perhaps the biggest disappointment is to see fans already hurling criticism at individual players or the manager. This has been the most amazing roller coaster ride in Europe and everyone contributed to get us to Seville. I wish we were bringing home the trophy and booking our place in the CL ..... but it is what it is and slagging off players a few days before another cup final seems fairly counter productive.

  6. You do understand we were playing Franfurt in a European Cup final and not Raith Rovers in The Ramsdens Cup Final? The team can hold their heads high, this season's European run has been phenomenal

  7. Goldson on the other hand... why the f*ck would you leave that ball?! Even if there's no forward lurking about, a ball like that cannot be left.

  8. Goldson has been a brilliant servant to the club but its time to move on. No way McGregor should be anything other than backup next season if he stays, but I think he should retire graciously, its just a shame it isn't with a Europa League winners medal. Aribo suffered by being played out of position last night, but he's also not been as consistent across the season for someone so gifted. But you could say the same of Ryan Kent too. Kamara hasn't had a great season by his standards either, but he's also been played out of position. If we get decent offers, I'd take the money for Aribo and Kamara and a couple of others if it means we can fund a rebuild. I'm hoping the run to the final has all freed up some more funds. Like @der Berliner says, I think think we need to shake things up a bit and try to address some of the issues we've seen over the last 3-4 years under SG and to a lesser extent Gio. We definitely need to sign a first choice striker to play alongside Morelos (or instead of him); sort out the midfield in the SPL - we don't need to be as defensive as we have been... and sort out CB/GK - a more solid spine to the defence should help give the midfield more confidence to get forward maybe. We still seem reticent to shoot from outside the area in the SPL and while I don't think its as bad as when SG first came, we often get in to what seems like a really good position to have a shot or play someone in, before turning back to retain possession and recycle the ball, start again.

  9. Based on what we saw, I agree. Even if Roofe had been fit to start, I think we'd have scored at least one more goal last night.

  11. The upcoming SC Final is important. For all their quality, which I think this squad has in spades, it's only 1 trophy out of... how many? 12, 13? That's not good enough. This squad is better than that. I think the LC Final against them a few years ago was massive. Having battered them for the full 90 minutes - something we hadn't done in years - only to lose in that manner was a big mental hit for these players. I think if we'd have won that trophy, more would have followed.

  12. Looks like we will be seeded for the Champions League qualifiers next season. https://kassiesa.net/uefa/seedcl2022.html We need to get the cup final out of the way and focus on this. This season we were suffering from an extended title party hangover. The loss of Roofe and Kamara did not help either. It's possible that the players find it difficult to pick themselves up in time for the qualifiers. Reaching a European final could be as mentally exhausting as 55.

  13. What concerns me is we lost two similar goals like that to the yahoos in the two games at Parkhead i.e a long cross ball in from the RB area

  14. I thought Ramsey's penalty was fine. It was struck down the middle, with decent pace. Unfortunately, the 'keeper gets a toenail to it. It happens.

  17. ......the booze There is always a large element of sympathetic magic in play, at times like these, so below is my selection for tonight (I confess - the cargo has been broached, already, as you might have guessed). Beer first: The boys need to concentrate, and apply themselves, to ensure that they do a on the Germans, and win. To help them mak' siccar, I thought some would help. Of course, some of these fellows won't go amiss, either: If all goes according to plan, and please God it does, then it's off the beer, and onto and the juju will have worked.

  18. sometimes it's easier to admit the opposition are better than you as was the case last night. No shame in losing a European Cup Final in penalties to Frankfurt - huge shame in losing to Raith in The Ramsdens - they are not comparable

  19. A little synopsis of our team from last night both on domestic and European form this season and where their futures may lie. Just my opinion... Greegs - did nothing wrong last night and produced some decent saves but will be disappointed not to get close to any of the penalties (given how high his standards are). Domestically he's had a few howlers but in Europe he has been outstanding. Future? Retire as one of the great Rangers keepers. Tav - he looked either injured our burnt out last night. Was unable to affect the game. Domestically and in Europe has been outstanding. His goals and assists are world class. Future? Stays as captain. Borna - didn't do anything wrong last night, but has been up and down domestically and in Europe this season. Future- if an offer comes in we have to sell. Goldson - will wonder what would have happened if he'd attempted to cut the cross out. Domestically sound and a colossos in Europe. We won't appreciate how good he is until he's gone. Future- leaves on a free in the summer. Bassey - one of the best players on the pitch last night. Been the standout domestically and in Europe this season. Future - he won't finish his career at Rangers but we need to get him tied down on a long term contract so we make as much as we can when we sell him. Jack - didn't affect the game last night and looked like his injuries are starting to take their toll. Injuries have hampered him this season and wouldn't be sad to see him leave. Kamara - like Jack found it hard to affect the game last night. Domestically and in Europe he has been a great signing for us. Bought for £50K so would sell this summer for whatever we can get for him seems to have run his course. Lundstram- midflied were overran and missed out last night. However, after a shaky start to his Rangers career, he's an automatic starter nest season. Wright - some sympathy for Wright. He is a SPL player trying to perform at elite level. Been in and out of the team, and can see him staying. Aribo - scored for us last night and sacrificed himself for the team playing as a striker. Been in and out of form this season but think he has a huge part to play for us. Kent - can't fault his work rate but his end product isn't consistent enough. However, he is one of the few players who can create/score out of nothing. I think he'll leave if a suitable offer is received but wouldn't be devistated if he stayed. That's the starting 11 from last night, and think after Saturday, no matter the result, it'll be the beginning of the end for SGs squad. Huge window for the club, Wilson, Gio and the board.

  20. Keep the faith. I'm sure that the support on Saturday will not play second fiddle to the Hearts fans. Let's finish the season on a high.

  21. Well, that was tough to take. I don't think we deserved to win the match but we could have and penalties is always a bit of a lottery, although probably not as much when the opposition are German. Definitely lots of one-off Rangers fans at the match and that, combined with the rather poor situation with refreshments after a day drinking in the sun, resulted in us being totally showed up by the Frankfurt support. One guy near me spent most of extra time looking at his phone... Unf*ckingbelievable! Sitting at a bus stop in Albufeira from 3.30-7.10am hasn't helped me - strange the things you see and people you encounter at that time in the morning. Sitting in Faro airport just now and can't wait to get home. We had better win on Saturday! No excuses.

  24. Well, it's not about likes or dislikes, I have nothing against Kamara (who is a truly gifted footballer) or Aribo (likewise). But when players are picked to no reasonable gain and with hardly any contribution or end product ahead of - in all likelyhood - better options for a game at hand, you ask questions of why they kept being picked. Aribo`s role yesterday was clear, and I did not exactly saw him excelling it. Again. For 80+ mins he was jogging about. Kamara`s role was ... well, you can try to tell me. We had Jack and Lundstram doing the hard shift in CM and DM. Kamara or either of the aforementioned was not needed. And we`ve seen this before too. We pack the midfield with CMs and DMs time and again, even against teams in low blocks. Play wonderful passes in DM and along the half-way line (as if we were doing ice hockey or handball), but show little creativity or penetration - not to mention goal threat. And that`s been the case throughout SG`s reign in the Scottish league. So yes, I for one would prefer an attacking player instead of a second or even third CM/DM in these games, games that we have toiled time and again in. And results are the facts that show how true this is, in case your memory is on the polar-opposite of mine.

  25. Motivational words of the day: Well, since SG took over, we made a true name of ourselves in Europe. Every season, we went a step further, even with nearly the same players. This season, we reached the finals of the second biggest thing there is in club football. Hundreds of clubs throughout Europe didn`t even come close to this. We will move on and further. One should not be under any illusion that we are anywhere close to what is required for the CL right now. Maybe not even in the near future. But we have made our mark and we will be back. For we are Rangers!

  26. I`ll make that Transfer Thread early next week. Going by what we have seen this and the previous seasons, IMHO, certain players get far too much playing time despite not performing consistently a high level ... or a level they are capable of. Thus, they seemingly ended up in a comfort zone and it showed in their level of performance and application. This may sound harder than it is intended, but yesterday was a prime example of Aribo jogging about for much of the game with hardly any impact whatsoever. One shot and a goal that came to him more or less by error-stricken Eintracht play. How he made it to the 100+ mins was totally beyond me. Likewise, when we have Jack and Ludnstram in midfield, Kamara's "free role" usually yields next to no results, unless he picks himself up and plays further up the field. Yet, he drops too deep and is a blunt weapon. When you have attacking power like Sakala, Roofe, Ramsey, Lowry, Arfield et al on the bench, watching this struggle (week in and week out) is even more dire. Now, the players don`t pick themselves, but for some reason, SG and Gio deem them worth a starting slot far too often. Maybe it is time that someone indeed comes in with a big bid and relieves our manager of this "problem". Other than injury, we probably won`t see much change. Same goes with formations. Goldson - In the cold light of day, he had one really good season, the rest was what you would expect of a Rangers centre-half. This season, he went back to that "normal" level, and like yesterday, showed, that there will be life after him at Ibrox. Thanks for the memories and good luck. McGregor - I don`t think we will have him with us next season. For all the good saves he made, the errors that de facto cost us the title earlier this year will probably stick to the memory for some time to come.

  27. He's very one-footed and sometimes gets the ball caught under his feet due to that or just seemingly not knowing what to do (he can be a bit indecisive with high balls too). But maybe its my old-school football training which always taught me that if in doubt, just clear your lines.

  28. Its hard not to think that given how many trophies we've not won over the last what, 3/4 years? And I've had that same thought, even going so far as to suggest that us persisting with the same group of core players season to season has been a mistake - regardless of how some of them have improved, we seem to be making some of the same mistakes and weaknesses time and time again, season to season, even under different managers. I think like Rousseau says, we all think that the squad is better on paper than than the trophy count would suggest, so what's the issue? Maybe this summer, with the expected turnaround in players will let us move on and start a new phase under Gio. If we can get good money-in for a few players, I don't think there's anybody I'd be gutted to see us lose tbh. Feels like we need a bit of a fresh start.

  29. I think that’s maybe what it is, you see a lot of own goals from trying to cut out those balls. But absolutely you have to do it otherwise you are leaving it to chance. I don’t think it’s something Goldson does much.

  30. Domestic cups are unimportant in general but losing this one would be a blow at precisely the wrong time. The players have a right to be confident. Winning this cup will help maintain that.

  31. I think I moan at Goldson for those exact situations several times a season, when I think about it. He has a tendency to leave them. Arsenal's Ben White scored an OG recently against Newcastle by stretching to cut out that sort of ball. No one was criticising him for trying to cut it out, mainly his inability to get there quickly enough (he had been trying to step up, then got caught). A defender has to dominate that area; intercept anything that comes near that front post.

  32. Just back at Alicante base camp after bus back from Seville. Enjoyed the occasion and players done well to get us there. can’t shake the perennial loser cloud over this squad though. That trophy was there for the taking and we couldn’t get over the line again. Onto Saturday which for me is a massive must win. Big changes need in the summer. We need quality players with the right mentality. now I’m off to sleep by the pool in the sun. Watp

  33. Absolutely fucking gutted. Am definitely proud of the team, but its hard not to be disappointed as we'll never get a better chance to win a European trophy. Looking back on it, that was a terrible goal to lose, but we've had that sort of mistake in us all season unfortunately. Its down to those two moments, Goldson not putting the ball in to row z and Kent's miss. Penalties are always a lottery, we should have had the game won by then. Roofe can't have been fit or I'm sure he'd have started, despite Gio saying he always knew that team would start. Morelos would have had a great time with that defence. We've been unlucky with our injuries this year.

  36. 2 finals in my lifetime (I can't remember Barcelona 1972 - I was only 4!), I hope I live to see a 3rd and may be a victory! Huge financial disparity in European Football means Rangers getting to finals isn't happening every year no matter how much we'd like it to. That shouldn't stop us dreaming tho.

  37. Bringing on Sakala instead of Roofe was a mistake which cost us the game. We needed more threat uo front. Frankfurt subbed both their CB’s.

  39. The better team won and it's not surprising really. The Bundesliga is a better league than the SPFL. Yes, I know that EF are below Dortmund and Red Bull but that's irrelevant really. If Rangers were in the EPL then it is possible that they could, in a one off situation, beat Liverpool and then Chelsea, only to lose in the next match to wolves and the following one to Newcastle, the one after to Southampton. Beating three German teams in one season is always unlikely. Having said this, this season has been a big success. It is not just about 'silverware', winning trophies is not the only criterion for success. To me, success is being involved until the very end of the season, until the last kick of the most important match. I dare say that his is not how many see it, particularly at the moment, but to me it is certianly true.

  40. Exactly what I thought too. Anyway, no hard feelings with Ramsey, it could have happened to any of them. We just didn't play well enough on the night, but doesn't take anything away from this teams achievement and gives us confidence for next season.

  41. Devastated - so much to pick the bones out of, but tonight is not the time. Proud of the players, can't underestimate the achievement of getting to the final but that was probably out best ever opportunity to win a major European Tourniment.
