  1. Had Rangers released the following statement 'We're delighted to note that Celtic shareholders and their Chief Executive retain a huge interest in Rangers, some things will never change.' we'd have humiliated Lawwell and made our point at the same time.

That's your statement...I prefer what was officially put out.

  2. Staying with Colin... his last taste of glory was in season 77-78 while on loan from Rangers to Kilmarnock who played in the 1st division at the time which sensationally beat Celtic in a replayed Scottish Cup match to earn a trip to Ibrox in the quarter-finals.

Rangers had to pulp all the tickets they had somewhat presumptively printed advertising their opponents as Celtic.

Killie were beaten 4-1. Stein didn’t score but it was perhaps fitting that Ibrox was the ground where he played his last full 90 minutes.

  3. 1968-69 Fairs Cup second round. Colin Stein made his European debut for Rangers against Dundalk scoring twice helping his side to progress into the 3rd round.

A month earlier in the 1st round of the competition he had helped Hibs into the 2nd round against NK Olimpija scoring in a 3-0 win.

  4. Wee 'Doddie' is one of my all-time favourites, the only midfielder in a blue jersey to come close to him imo for skill and battling qualities was Stu McCall.

Jock Wallace in a later interview about his time as Rangers manager said Alex was always the first name on his team sheet.

Delighted to hear he got a replica of his stolen CWC medal.

  5. During the 1968-69 season John Greig was the regular penalty taker of the team. After 5 successes from the spot he then missed one in a nervy Fairs Cup quarter final first leg tie against Atletico Bilbao at Ibrox with 'Gers only leading 2-1.

Greig vowed after the game (which finished 4-1) 'I'll never take another penalty kick'.

3 and a half years later in a League Cup game against Dumbarton with Rangers already 4-0 up, Derek Parlane the regular taker, and who had earlier put 'Gers 2-0 ahead from the spot, handed John the ball and said 'go on, take it',...he did and scored.

THAT was the last penalty kick he ever took.

  6. Ayr United forward Moffat scored a hat-trick tonight at Somerset Park against Stranraer in a match held over from the weekend due to the Scottish Cup.

But it wasn't enough to take the points as Longworth (3) Aitken (2pens) and a McKenna strike sealed an excellent 6-3 win for the visitors to move up to 5th in the table.

  7. Like most I remember that day vividly, sitting here in Lisburn, stunned in front of our TV set.

The No Surrender mantra was chanted by many NI civilians as we got up for work next day, sick to the stomach but continued to work in Police stations and Army bases despite the threat of being murdered for doing so.

Sadly Enniskillen was, for my generation, the latest in a long line of horrific terrorist attacks up to that point including the Claudy Massacre, Bloody Friday, the Kings Mills Massacre, La Mon House and Darkley.

The murder of Lord Mountbatten in 1979 is also lodged in my memory along with the death of 4 soldiers in the Lisburn 'Fun Run' bombing of 1988.

Such trauma and adversity seemed to strengthened our resolve.

Forgive me if I appear glib but I think a similar spirit is visible amongst the Rangers support. We appear to be under attack from every direction, and despite our differences the cry is no surrender!

I know D'Art served in the forces and his post stems from a deep understanding of the subject.

Today thanks to people like him I can bimble around Northern Ireland in relative safety, in an imperfect peace but a peace none the less.

    All together now...

    No Surrender!

No Surrender mate...I share your grief. WATP.

  8. We have a good core right now ok we're playing in a league that aint that good but it's what we have at present.

Are we good enough to take on a Motherwell or a St. Mirren?.....there's only one way to find out.

  9. Personally I'm longing for a game against them, but not sure about beating them, it's probably how a useless gambler feels - get your money on it and lose more of your cash - I think I'd rather wait a while even until we get back in their league (and it is theirs) then we'll be 'ready' for them at that time (I hope!) no cup games for now please.

  10. Do you not find that pretty worrying for those players careers? Before 26 are they likely to be moved on and replaced with 20 year olds? Like I said, people don't seem to want to think about the implications.

Worked out fine for Paul Scholes (over 120 career bookings and 10 red cards), he was never moved on by Sir Alex and retired at 37.

I don't really get the positive from the post.
    ,

Wasn't meant to be positive - or negative for that matter - just stating some footie facts from the match. :)

  11. Celtic could quite easily match or better Ajaxs result against Milan at home.

The goal Ajax scored deep into injury time at parkheed will be decisive on who finishes bottom if, and it's a big if, the c**t* manage a draw vs Milan
