We toiled somewhat before the break, as probably any team would against those tactics. But we totally lost our pressing and quick passing game, quick thinking and/or the ability to take quick passes on in 2020. Picking the same players time and again did not help.

Are you saying Liverpool would struggle to see off Hamilton, Ross County, St Mirren etc?

I think we'd be better at breaking down these brick walls if we didn't play a No.10 in a wide position, didn't spend £7m on a player who rarely provides assists, despite that being his primary role and didn't persist with a formation that the opposition can read like a book.

That blames the manager and the coaching team. SG definitely pushed to sign Ryan Kent who has not lived up to expectations.

Not much wrong with most of the players as seen by early season results.

Since winter break we seem to have lost the quick incisive movement we had and are now playing more sideway passes trying to invite opposition to come out from their shell and thus don't have the same momentum/ability to make speedy movement so we resort to long high balls which are easy meat to defences.

But these players are not doing it now. Why is that? My laboured point is that they are not good enough to sustain good form.

I would argue that the teams we have played in Europe have actually come out to play against us, which helps us.  We have dominated Celtic in 5 of the last 6 OF games.... they come out and play against us..... everyone else sits in and parks the bus.  It isn't that they aren't good enough, it is that we haven't found a solution to the teams that park the bus.

No! If we can't break teams down teams that have inferior players then we are not good enough. Look at the top teams, Liverpool, Man City, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, They face brick wall defences regularly and win. Dare I say Celtic manage it in Scotland too ?. The solution is to play better with better players.

Simply outplayed by much better players , it’s not rocket science at this level , this team spent a fortune to top up the very good players they already had , We have players on frees and on their last legs , we can expect no more or no less .

When this team breaks up as it surely looks like it will , we should build it around Hagi .

I don't know. Hagi looks good so does Kamberi. How many times have we given a contract to a player playing well then nothing. Davis recently

Put your specs on Les bud - I said I fancied Spurs and Chelsea to go out :D (post #21)

I forecast only Liverpool and City to go through.  Pool would have went through had Allison played last night

Aargh it was Compo that forecast four, you  disagreed. Humble apologies.

We've been far too reliant on two or three players these past two seasons and when they're off form, we struggle to break teams down.  We need a better team and we need a spine with a winning mentality.  Goldson, Tav, Jack, Davis and Kamara don't provide that - replace them with winners.

Can we bring in better players than them or do we need a manager who can motivate what we have with a few tweaks here and there?

Whether you agree or disagree, the calls for Gerrard's head will certainly gather momentum after that. I've watched Rangers for long enough to know that patience is a commodity in short supply at Ibrox.

Unfortunately its a lot easier to blame and get rid of the manager than a whole team of players.
