  1. It's only an opinion, and it certainly isn't intended to defend some of the uglier renderings, but I think the "songbook" issue is greatly over-egged. I've known some of the most generous, warm-hearted people to bellow out Derry's Walls, not because they were rabid anti-Catholics but simply because they identified it with Rangers. I know one bloke, married to a Catholic and bringing his daughters up as Catholics, who regularly goes through the full "songbook". In all the decades I've followed the Rangers, the only cause of embarrassment or disgust for me has come from the abuse of alcohol, not from the songs sung by fans in control of their faculties, whatever the words. I still remember the glass bottles raining down on young fans near the front of the terracing - bottles thrown by inebriated fellow Rangers "fans", not propelled by any songbook or loyalist lyrics. If Rangers fans cause trouble you can guarantee they're fuelled by alcohol, not by sectarian fundamentalism. I'm no temperance trumpeter but, come on, sort out the booze culture among football fans before worrying about the words of a few songs, the meaning of which almost no one even thinks about.
  2. Seems an entirely realistic approach wrt PC. I always took the view that it was the job of the players & manager to impress the fans, not the other way round.
  3. You win nothing here unless you have a stomach for battle. I'm waiting to see how our newbies cope with the inevitable blood and thunder challenges.
  4. They say intelligence is normally distributed throughout the population. The inevitable implication is that half the population is of below-average intelligence and in any sizeable crowd of random people, a fair number are going to be considerably below average, to the extent they are incapable of experiencing or implementing "normal" social behaviour or standards. The common notion of "equality" is mostly bunkum or at least built on sand. In other words, you are seldom more than 20 feet away from a moron.
  5. I know it's only a pre-season friendly but I'm saddened to see that Miller apparently remains a first choice striker. Time to move on.
  6. There is an unfortunate modern tendency for some over-sensitive fans to regard routine expression of opinion about players, manager, directors, etc as dangerously seditious criticism. I guess I'll just have to bear the burden of being a detractor because I don't feel at all comfortable with this covert censorship.
  7. Don't think I've ever seen a player who seemed so reluctant to be at Rangers. Waste of space.
  8. Ticket sales and season ticket allocation, together with hospitality and sundry other sales must surely push match day income over the £1m mark. I can't see costs being anything like this but, as you say, someone must know the figures involved.
  9. Every time I think about Hibs I see that appalling SC final capitulation the season before last. It will take something special to erase that sickening defeat.
  10. Indeed we should. I made a considerable donation to the Fghting Fund and I sure as hell didn't do it to build a bloody shelter or whatever it was.
  11. I hope no one is naive enough to think our titles are safe yet. Personally, I fully expect the SPFL / SFA to open the door to a new and ultimately unfavourable review.
  12. Bill

    Our song book.

I think megaphone man, the guy with the drum and the rest of the circus act should give us peace.
  13. We need a 20+ goals a season striker and that's not Naismith. He might be better than what we had up front last season but I just don't see him solving our goals drought
  14. I know if it was me, I damn sure wouldn't give up on £50k a week, whether I got a game at Norwich or not.
  15. If they're reviewing it again then they've already decided they have a chance of winning.
  16. The only issues I have with re-signing him is that the Naismith we remember was five years ago and he has largely been out of first team football for a season ... and there will be absolutely no chance of generating any transfer income when he goes. I suspect he will disappoint if he comes back. Of course I could also be ridiculously wrong, as usual.
  17. Thank you for the kind welcome Bluedell. I did visit Getsnet briefly a very long time ago but haven't been back here for many years. Got a bit more time on my hands these days and thought this might be a good place to stay in touch with all things Rangers.
  18. That's a pity Craig. I was rather looking forward to renewing an old acquaintance Maybe later
  19. I used to be totally traditionalist. Winter was for football. Then I went to some summer games in Sweden and thought "why the hell aren't we doing this in Scotland"
  20. This is awkward. I'm not sure it will always be possible for us both to be right
  21. I see Galatasaray have been knocked out of the Europa League by a village team from the north of Sweden, further convincing me of the huge advantage that summer football gives teams in the early Rounds of European competitions.
  22. Thanks blueflag, much appreciated.
  23. Thanks for the tip, looks like I'll better do some research on Craig
  24. Damn your eyes. And I was hoping to keep a low profile ?
  25. Cheers Compo, happy to be here.
