Yet another Sinky got wrong Just got a move to Norwich City that could net Falkirk £1 million. I watched him play in the same youth team as Darren Ramsay and Charlie Telfer for a couple of years, where as he may not have been the standout he wouldn't have been a candidate for release in my opinion. Gary Oliver who recently scored for Hearts, Lewis Spence and Lewis Martin who are now regulars at Dunfermline also played in the same team on occasions although they are a year younger.

THE displays of the Rangers team on the park last week were cause for optimism down Ibrox way. Ally McCoist's side netted 12 goals in their two competitive outings and put their shaky early-season form well and truly behind them. The size of the crowds in the home games against both Clyde and Dumbarton, however, were reasons to look towards the future with trepidation. And the attendance at the SPFL Championship fixture with Dumbarton on Saturday afternoon was particularly alarming. For the league meeting with the Sons was perhaps the best chance so far to gauge what the turnout will be like at Rangers home games in the 2014/15 campaign. The Petrofac Training Cup matches with Hibs and then Clyde were always going to attract smaller crowds due to the stature of the competition and the size of the opposition. Much was made of the fact that only 11,190 supporters filed through the turnstiles in the 8-1 victory in the latter game last Monday. It was the lowest Ibrox attendance at a competitive fixture for 29 years. Yet that encounter with part-time opponents from the bottom tier of Scottish football was - despite Gers great Barry Ferguson being in charge of the opposition - expected to draw that sort of response. There were 43,683 in the Championship opener against Hearts a fortnight ago. But there were special circumstances surrounding that fixture. The League One flag was unfurled and the Govan Stand was renamed in honour of Sandy Jardine before kick-off. Plus, the first game against age-old adversaries Hearts after two long seasons of often uninspiring outings against our national game's lesser lights was guaranteed to put a fair few bums on seats. No, the Dumbarton game at the weekend was a far better barometer of what size the attendances - and, in turn, the gate receipts -will be for Rangers in the weeks and months which lie ahead. And the fact that only 31,175 turned up on a perfect afternoon for football must be worrying for both those who follow the fortunes and those who control the purse-strings at the troubled Glasgow institution. It was the lowest turnout at a league game at Ibrox since 24,177 fans watched Rangers defeat Falkirk 4-0 thanks to a Robert Fleck double and goals from Davie Cooper and Terry Butcher on December 13, 1986. A home game against Methil minnows East Fife around this time last year drew 42,870. No company can have nearly a quarter of their customers disappear in the space of 12 months without drastic consequences. Even if all of the 34,000 fans who bought season tickets to see Rangers in League One last season had renewed this summer, the club would still not have had enough money to see them to the end of this term. So for just how long will the Light Blues be able to limp along with just over 20,000 season book holders and fewer than 10,000 turning up and paying at the gate on match days? There are ambitious plans for Rangers to hold another share offering in the very near future and the hope is to raise in the region of £4million of much-needed capital from that. But with shareholder Sandy Easdale and wealthy fan George Letham due to have loans totalling £1.5m repaid, financial experts have predicted that will only sustain the club until the end of the year. The ongoing lack of clarity over Rangers future off the field is overshadowing the fact that on it they appear to be getting their act together after some poor performances. They brushed aside Dumbarton with ease at the weekend thanks to strikes from Lee McCulloch, Darren McGregor and Nicky Clark. An own goal from Chris Turner aided their cause considerably. Bilel Mohsni, who was highly fortunate not to be red carded by referee Brian Colvin for his trip on Scott Agnew, also turned the ball into his net late on to give the sizeable travelling support a reason to cheer. That lapse of judgment by the Tunisian, though, could not wipe the smile from McCoist's face after a highly satisfactory performance by his charges from front to back. He said: "The skipper played in central midfield and chipped in with a goal, Nicky got a good goal and our right-back played well and scored a great goal. "To be scoring goals is always good. But to be scoring goals from different areas is an added bonus for us. "I was annoyed we didn't keep a clean sheet, but I thought the football was of a high standard. We created a lot of chances, scored four good goals, hit the post and had a goal disallowed. "It is consistency that is going to win us the league this year. That is what we have to work hard to get. McCoist, whose side face Buckie Thistle in their first pre-season friendly tonight, said: “I can understand people being sceptical with players coming back and the ages of these players, but, at the same time, we are not in a position to plan longer term. “Finances are dictating that the job is to get out of the division until the time comes when we can again spend money and bring players in. “A year ago, Kenny was scoring at Wembley for Scotland, and Kris was unbelievable at Kilmarnock last term. “I was really impressed with their desire to come back, do well and be part of our journey. “They’re tremendous pros and the younger ones will learn a lot from them. “When you are reaching 30, a fear goes through you that you’re nearing the end of your career and there’s a desire and a determination to look after yourself and play for as long as possible." He added: “We’re not ignoring kids and it’s nonsense to suggest otherwise. But you can’t flood your team with kids and then expect to get through two divisions. “There’s never been a case in recent Old Firm history where five or six kids have come through the ranks and into the first team. “But, if the younger lads coming through are good enough, they will play. Guys like Lewis Macleod and Fraser Aird have come in and stayed in. “Others, like Calum Gallagher and Robbie Crawford are there on the fringes and we’ll continue to give the younger ones a chance. “But it’s crazy to think we could have put seven or eight in the team and come through the leagues.” McCoist confirmed that former Hearts defender Marius Zaliukas, 30, is on his radar as he looks to add to his squad. He said: “Marius has come up to train with us for a couple of days, “I’ve always liked him as a centre-back, If we can bring him in then great, but we haven’t even spoken contracts or money.”

He appeared in the 2008 Scottish Cup Final for Rangers at 16 but was being hailed as Scotland’s next big thing long before then. That’s why when the Scot reflects on a rollercoaster start to his career, even he says the hype was unjustified. Fleck left Glasgow for the first time in summer 2012 – after the Ibrox club’s financial meltdown – to begin a new life in Coventry, away from the city’s goldfish bowl and Old Firm spotlight. And 18 months on the little playmaker believes the move has been the making of him. More mature, both on and off the pitch, Fleck is now a father and senior member of Steven Pressley’s Sky Blues dressing room. For the first time there are no Wayne Rooney comparisons and predictions of being Scotland’s next superstar. Instead, he’s simply enjoying the most productive spell of his career so far. Fleck told Record Sport: “I get asked all the time if I couldn’t handle the weight of expectation on my shoulders at Ibrox. But I can honestly say it didn’t affect me at all. “I’m a laidback person and tried not to take any notice of the hype. I just tried to do my best – if that was good enough, great, if not there wasn’t a lot I could do about it. “I’m now starting to show if I’m played in the right position by a manager who has faith in me I can do well. I’m getting the rewards for that at Coventry. “I can always do better. But the expectation on me at a young age was too much. People were taking it too far. “Even back then I felt people were talking me up so they could knock me back down. “In a way that’s what happened. So I’m glad I didn’t let it influence me. I feel I’m playing well now. “I’m doing what I’ve always done – trying to get on the ball, play passes and make things happen. “I’m a lot fitter than I was at Rangers too and I’m feeling really good right now.” Fleck is one of the first names on Pressley’s teamsheet at Coventry and is operating where he always wanted to at Rangers, in the heart of midfield. People questioned the switch to the Midlands, especially as City subsequently suffered similar financial problems to Gers and were forced out of their Ricoh Arena stadium. But the former Scotland Under-21 starlet has no regrets and now sees his long-term future in England. He said: “The move has been great and I’ve played in almost every game this season. “The manager has got the team doing well – we think we can really do something in this league. We’ve also done well in the FA Cup and have Arsenal at the Emirates in the next round. “Personally, it’s just good to be a regular in the team. I had to take my chance down here. It was the first time I’d moved away from Glasgow permanently so I didn’t know what to expect. “I’d like to think I’ve taken the opportunity and, looking at it now, things have worked out for the better. “I’m playing in central midfield, where I’ve always wanted to, for a manager who believes in me. So I’m really enjoying it. “It’s a physical league and I’m a wee guy but I’ve always liked a tackle. I’ve never been scared to do that side of the game. “Coventry have had their problems recently but they’re a massive club with a huge fanbase. The supporters have been brilliant with me. “I’d like to stay down here as long as I can and it would be great to be part of Coventry’s revival. No one gave us a chance in the summer but we’re getting there – and I want to take the club back where it belongs.” Fleck is still the same kid who burst on to the scene at Rangers and scored an Ibrox winner aged just 17. But his outlook has now changed, largely due to the birth of son Hudson in June. However, despite settling down away from the pitch he’s as determined as he’s ever been to fulfil the potential every scout in Scotland saw in him when he was barely out of school. He said: “I wouldn’t say there’s less pressure here than playing for Rangers. I always put pressure on myself to play well. The manager also expects a lot from me at Coventry. “Maybe from the supporters there was more pressure at Ibrox. But no matter who I was playing for I’d put pressure on myself. “I’m still ambitious and want to play at the highest level. I’m only 22 so have my whole career ahead of me. “That’s the problem, people think I’m a lot older because I made my Rangers debut at 15. But I’m still young so I’m just concentrating on doing well for City. “That debut seems like a long time ago – but I’m looking forward to the future now. “I’ve matured as a person down here. I’ve had a kid, my wee boy Hudson is five months old, and I’m trying to look out for him now along with his mum Lauren. “I’m loving it but it changes your life. It’s amazing, so everything’s good right now. I’m a Glasgow boy but I’m enjoying life in England. “It’s difficult getting up the road to see family but that’s just part of football. The last time I wrote a match preview I talked of the need to install a football philosophy. At that time i talked of playing like Barcelona, off playing a high defensive line and pressing the ball high up the park. I was therefore delighted when we played Stenhousemuir at Ibrox recently to see us playing a high line, indeed on several occasions Moshni could be seen urging the defense forward to the half way line. We reaped the rewards of this and ran out 8 - 0 winners with stenny never really making it out of their own half for long spells. So imagine my surprise when on Saturday i tuned into el classico to watch Barca playing classic Walter smith tactics. Everyone behind the ball, working hard to retrieve it then hitting on the break and very impressive they were. Off course Walter learned this from Italian football. Southampton are having a great start to the season playing a high pressing game and of course pep has Byern starting to play this way. I guess this just proves that the style of football it's self is perhaps less important than the team working hard, being organised and having talented players. so far this season we have been working harder and have added some talented players. Hopefully more of the same tomorrow night will see us through to our first ever Ramsdens cup final apparently at Easter Rd. I don't expect the team to vary much on what seems to be allys favored line up. :rf::jig: :ap::ib::lm: :jd: Perhaps only little/clark is debatable. Me personally i would like to see perlata at right back and temps come in at right mid to see how that goes as i think we lack some pace and width, plus foster is poor.

Turns out a rumour which has been floating around all week is true for once! He was only just given a new 1 year deal this summer, but it looks like the lad might have finally burnt his bridges and his last chance at the club could be up in smoke. Fingers crossed because the sooner the club gets rid of these smart arse Nandos crew chancers and gives the opportunities to lads who really deserve it, the better off the club will be. Cole Stays Away Written by Andrew Dickson DARREN COLE has been asked to stay away from the club on a temporary basis following a breach of discipline. The 21-year-old was due to be part of the squad for the Garry Lynch Memorial friendly between junior side Cambuslang Rangers and a Light Blues reserve team on August 11. But Cole failed to report for the game and following a discussion with manager Ally McCoist, he is not currently training at Murray Park. The defender has found himself fall out of favour in recent weeks after being included in the squad for the Northern Tour matches at Brora and Elgin City last month. He hasn’t featured for the first team since that second fixture at Borough Briggs on July 10 and isn’t being considered for selection at present by McCoist. But did last night teach us anything at all about the squad? Generally friendlies are glorified training sessions, and offer little to no useful insight to the squad or formations - indeed, the only way you can learn about what works and what doesn't is by trying in competitive games. But that said, did we take anything from the match? I'm going to be honest, I found a few small (probably irrelevant) nuggets of information in it that may or may not be useful. Ortiz was a poor poor signing who isn't suited to this squad/team at all. Not all Ally's signings will be successes and the Spaniard sadly isn't one. Aluko looks to have a lot of energy. He's quick, dynamic, and showed how effective he can be when he does get the final ball in. But he's no Naismith. There's a reason Alexander never really made the big time as a goalkeeper. Sure, Shagger's made errors too, but it's not often you see Alexander pull out saves even half the quality of Shagger's. An adequate deputy but never more. It was interesting to see Fleck in a more central position. It's closer to where he's best suited, and he seemed more at ease in that central slot. He is basically a trequartista and is wasted on the flanks. Time will tell if he's good enough in his preferred position to make it at the club. That's about it.

LEICESTER have told Rangers they will make a £7.5million January bid for Nikica Jelavic. Ibrox owner Craig Whyte rejected a £6.5m bid from the Foxes for Jelavic in August. The big spending Championship side remain interested in the Croat who has netted 11 goals this season for Ally McCoist's side. Last month's sacking of Sven-Goran Eriksson won't stop Leicester's wealthy Thai owners stepping up their chase for Jelavic as a gift for new boss Nigel Pearson. With Gers' finances remaining precarious and a potentially crippling £49m tax bill looming it's highly unlikely Gers chief Whyte could afford to snub such an improved offer for Jelavic. The 26-year-old hitman cost £4m from Rapid Vienna in 2010 and has since delivered 30 goals from 40 starts. That's despite Jelavic missing almost four months of last season through injury. Boss McCoist desperately hopes all bids for his main frontman can be rebuffed and has been in constant dialogue with Whyte over their transfer window plans. He remains worried, however, an offer will come in that can't be refused. SunSport also understands Sheffield United are still keen to lands Gers' fringe men John Fleck and Kyle Hutton on loan deals. Blades boss Danny Wilson was left gutted back in August after a move for the duo fell through, but he will try again for the youngsters. Fleck was a sub in Saturday's 0-0 draw against St Johnstone while midfielder Hutton has impressed on loan at Partick Thistle since September. Meanwhile, Gers have joined a host of Premiership clubs in tracking Dulwich Hamlet centre-half Michael Chambers, 17. This weekend is MASSIVE. With us having Utd on Saturday we can find ourselves 15 points clear of them as they have a very tricky tie at Fir Park. Septic are their own worst enemy at the moment. They rarely keep a clean sheet and with Fir park being a hard venue for them in recent years, this could yet be a defining moment in the title race. It's hugely important that we take maximum points on Saturday and put real pressure on our tail backs. The injury to Naisy is a huge blow for us but we have players to compensate and need to take full advantage of the situation. On the flip side this could be a real chance for John Fleck to live up to the hype he has so far failed to deliver, being it by lack of form, injury or lack of opportunity. Ally also can make Davis a bit more advanced which could be a tasty option leaving Edu and Jig to add steel and protection in the centre of the park. Also could open the door for Mackay to come in. Having seen a fair bit of him in my time in Australia i know the lad has real ability. He's somewhat of a late developer but has talent and skill and gives us a good option. One thing is for sure, we can't rely on Timmy's slip ups. We have to concentrate on ourselves and make sure we don't drop any more points at home. Time to turn the screw as they say... WATP:robbo:

RANGERSâ?? impressive start to the defence of their SPL title would suggest Ally McCoist has more than managed to build a strong starting line-up. But on the evidence of last nightâ??s friendly fixture victory over English Premier League giants Liverpool, the Ibrox manager also has plenty of strength in depth which could prove vital in the coming months of the campaign. It is often argued Celtic boss Neil Lennon has far greater resources at his disposal than his counterpart across the city, but it now appears that such an argument is outdated. With no European football this midweek in light of their failure to reach the Champions League or qualify for the Europa League, Rangers took the opportunity to invite Kenny Dalglishâ??s Liverpool north of the border. Naturally, the main thinking behind such a fixture would have been in financial terms, as the men running the club desperately try to claw back even a fraction of the money they lost out on at the start of the season when they were knocked out of both European competitions. On the pitch, though, it also proved to be a successful night as McCoist used the game to have a closer look at several of the players he has waiting on the wings and hoping to break into the first-team. It was an opportunity for Australian internationalist Matt McKay to show what he can do and try and stake a place for a competitive outing after spending most of his time on the bench following his move from Brisbane Roar. And he didnâ??t disappoint. His positional sense, and his overall awareness and knowledge of the game, impressed McCoist and he now provides the Light Blues boss with an alternative to youngster Gregg Wylde for the role on the left of midfield should the youngster lose form. On the other flank, Juan Manuel Ortiz managed to make a reasonable impact on occasions and as much as he hasnâ??t set the heather on fire, he is still a player who can deputise in a few positions across the back and in midfield should he be required to do so. A third summer signing, Alejandro Bedoya, was also decent enough against Liverpool without being outstanding and once again, he is another player McCoist knows he has waiting on the wings should the time come when he is required to make changes. When you then factor in that Kirk Broadfoot and Davie Weir came in to play at the back, with the latter looking particularly comfortable against £35m striker Andy Carroll â?? especially considering he hasnâ??t played for some time â??and that Kyle Bartley is still to return, McCoist probably has more viable defensive options available to him than Lennon. With Lee McCulloch getting some much-needed game-time and John Fleck coming off the bench as well as fellow youngsters Jordan McMillan and Ross Perry, there is actually an extremely strong squad of players in place at Ibrox. McCoist, as you might imagine, was really pleased with the 1-0 win which came courtesy of McCullochâ??s strike but it was the chance to see so many of his fringe players in action which delighted him more than the win over the Anfield club. â??It was a good exercise from the point of view that a lot of our lads got a game under their belt,â? explained McCoist. â??We managed to play a number of players who havenâ??t played that often for one reason or another and that was pleasing.â? BOLTON are ready to make a move to prise Gregg Wylde away from Rangers. SunSport understands that Trotters boss Owen Coyle will offer �£400,000 for the Scotland Under-21 star. Wylde is in the last year of his Ibrox deal and is desperate to stay on at his boyhood idols. Yet he's unhappy Gers' best offer is less than half of what fellow starlets Jamie Ness and John Fleck earn. Furious Ibrox chiefs believe former Celtic star Frank McAvennie has been touting Wylde in England. Bolton are the second club from down south to register an interest. West Brom are thought to have had a similar offer rejected last week. Championship side Leeds United are also believed to be monitoring the situation. Gers are set to warn all three clubs - and McAvennie - that Wylde is not for sale, even though they would only get a compensation payment in the summer if the 20-year-old runs his deal down. Ironically Celtic could also be entitled to a portion of that sum - after Wylde spent two years in the Hoops youth system. Wylde broke into the Gers first team at the end of last season but is still on the �£600-a-week deal he signed as an Under-19s player. He received a five-figure bonus like the rest of the squad when they won the SPL and Co-operative Cup. Both sides reached a deadlock in talks last March and Wylde was banished back to the youth changing room at the start of this season as the impasse continued. He was offered an improved figure last week as the Premier League interest grew. Yet Wylde rejected the cash on offer because it still fell short of what other players his age were on. He was warned that decision could jeopardise his future first team chances - and was axed from the squad for the friendly with Chelsea. Yet he's been brought back into the group for today's clash in Inverness after helping Scotland's Under-21s beat Norway 3-0 in midweek.
