  2. Poll to follow: Rangers take the spoils with solid - if unspectacular - display against hard-working Hearts at Ibrox. * Allan McGregor - 7 One spill late on but superb double block just after half-time helped secure the points. * Kirk Broadfoot - 7 Generally did very well as once again he found himself playing full-back. Very solid defensively. * Madjid Bougherra - 7 Helped create the opening goal and looked very impressive at the back. Excellent distribution. * David Weir - 7 A decent game from veteran but lack of pace was again evident as Hearts pushed for equaliser. * Sasa Papac - 7 Mr Reliable put his usual unflappable shift in at left-full back. Could attack the ball more at times. * Lee McCulloch - 4 Seemed to pick up leg knock very early in game and struggled to get into match after that. Will struggle to feature very soon. * Pedro Mendes - 8 Started brightly and after fading slightly towards half-time did even better in second period. Sublime touches on the ball and looks an exciting prospect. * Kevin Thomson - 8 Incredible graft and work-rate as he was permitted to do the dirty work and allows others to create. * Kyle Lafferty - 7 Always struggling with hamstring but worked very hard and took goal superbly well. Good touch and looks dangerous on the ball. * Andrius Velicka - 6 Flitted in and out of game but has to be stronger against tough SPL defences. * Kris Boyd - 5 Didn't have the best of first halves and didn't improve after the break. Brought one good save out of Hearts keeper and slotted penalty away nicely which should help obvious lack of confidence. * Kenny Miller - 6 Unusual right midfield position for Scotland man but he performed well under spotlight from many fans. * DaMarcus Beasley - 6 Did pretty well when he replaced Lafferty and will feel he deserves starting spot for next game. * Jean-Claude Darcheville - 3 Late sub not seen at all.

  4. Going to try and break this lengthy article down into the next 5 posts lads... :box: http://www.gersnetonline.net/newsite/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=646&Itemid=1 Gersnet is quite unique in an online sense, in that we try to offer an ongoing analysis of every game via pre and post match debate ââ?¬â?? not just in terms of discussion but via our archive of results, appearances and man of the match awards. Using our archived man of the match awards and weekly player-by-player ratings, we can then look back on every playerââ?¬â?¢s contribution. In the following article, you can read our findings. First off, using the man of the match awards (decided by all Gersnet users ââ?¬â?? main site and forum), we can immediately see who our best player was in season 2007/08. ââ?¬Ë?Kingââ?¬â?¢ Carlos Cuellar, I hear you cry! And youââ?¬â?¢d be right of course but interestingly it wasnââ?¬â?¢t as clear cut as one would think. Weââ?¬â?¢ve also had other players mentioned throughout the campaign as either important contributors worthy of transfer interest (eg Hutton, McGregor and Cousin) while some players also attracted criticism for their less than excellent input. As such, weââ?¬â?¢ve decided to list the top five players in terms of man of the match awards received as well as go onto to take each player in the squad and rate their individual performance. Feel free to disagree! Gersnet Player of the Year: Carlos Cuellar (11 MoM Awards); Joint Second Place: Barry Ferguson / Kevin Thomson (6 MoM Awards); Fourth Place: Allan McGregor (5 MoM Awards); Fifth Place: Steven Davis (4 MoM Awards); The choice of Cuellar is an obvious and well deserved one but it wasnââ?¬â?¢t actually until later in the season he really moved away from the other players above. Indeed, up until March, several players were in contention (including Darcheville and Cousin) while Davis made an immediate impression on his arrival. This shows until then the squad was doing its job. After this point, few other players challenged Cuellar for any award which accurately describes the drastically falling player standards of that period. In a positive sense, as seen below, there was a fair spread of good performances so even some of the less supported ââ?¬Ë?squadââ?¬â?¢ players have shown they can contribute to the required level. What is needed is improved performance over the whole campaign but given the fixture congestion of season 2007/08, one feels there will be less pressure in that regard next season. Onto individual ratings then where you can also find out what players did manage to win awards as well as their Gersnet rating for season 2007/08. [Continued on Page 2]

  24. Job done and a few goals into the bargain. Efficient job without really hitting top level. Smith - 6 Didn't have a save to make Hutton - 7 Got forward and took his goal well. Not really tested defensively Broadfoot - 7 Solid performance. Used the ball well. Would be good to see him given a start in the league ahead of the toiling Weir. Papac - 6 Solid defensively but distribution let him down on occasion Whittaker - 6 Decent overall performance. Supported the attack well but his crossing let him down Gow - 7 Some nice touches and surely deserves a chance in team. Tired towards the end Hemdani - 6 Unusually slack in possesion at times but strolled the majority of the game Adam - 5 Poor game again. Continually wasted possession. Crossing, passing and delivery from set pieces was poor. McCulloch - 8 Took his goals well, scoring a beauty of a second. Unlucky not to get his hat trick. Used the ball well. Deserves to keep his place ahead of Adam Darcheville - 5 Couple of good runs, especially for Boyd's 2nd but generally looked off the pace Boyd - 7 Hat trick hero. Did little else Subs Buffel (on for Darcheville) - 8 Won a penalty just after coming on and lit up the second half. Pay Feyenoord what they are owed please Mr Muarry. This guy could bring us the league Fleck (Hemdani) - 5 couple of nice touches and good ball in at the death. Got a long way to go Naismith (Boyd) - 4 Contributed little My Man of the Match - Lee McCulloch
