LATE bid to have red card over-turned fails

RANGERS have lost an appeal over Kevin Thomson's dismissal in Sunday's League Cup Final.

The club had hoped for the red card to be rescinded so that he could play in tonight's Scottish Cup replay with Dundee United.

Thomson was sent off by referee Craig Thomson just seven minutes into the second half of Sunday's final against St Mirren.

He has given a straight red card for the challenge on St Mirren's Steven Thomson.

Under the rules an automatic one-match suspension would kick in for the replay with United and that now happens after the appeal was lost.

Thomson will also miss the SPL clash with Aberdeen on Wednesday, April 7 as he has gone over the disciplinary penalty points threshhold.

Waste of £1k. Pointless appeal

.

The club must have hoped that the SFA wouldn't review it tonight and reply tonight so that we could play Thomson. The SFA were probably bombarded with calls and emails from complaining bheasts as soon as the fact that we were appealing went public this evening. Not saying that's why it was rejected though, just pointing out the obvious...

Indeed. And that kind of tactic shouldnt be allowed, be it us or anyone else. If the SFA had asked the ref to review his decision in anticipation of an appeal then I don't have a problem with that. Of course we expect that this would be the case for other clubs in the future so one to bookmark for future reference!
