ROYAL Mail bosses have banned the Union Flag from Scots sorting offices ahead of the royal wedding.

Post office bosses don't want the British flag displayed because they fear it might cause trouble over its link to Rangers.

The news came as William and Kate continued their wedding preparations with a rehearsal at Westminster Abbey last night.

Old Firm rivalry and sectarianism have been in the headlines since the bad-tempered Glasgow derby last month and the subsequent letter-bomb campaign against Hoops boss Neil Lennon and other high-profile Celtic fans.

On Tuesday, bosses ordered staff at Glasgow's Springburn mail centre to remove Union Flag bunting they had put up to celebrate the wedding.

A spokeswoman said: "We do not wish to dampen festivities.

"But, in light of recent sensitivities, we cannot agree to any material that can be construed as having partisan connections.

"We're happy for staff to display memorabilia of the royal couple.

"We don't want anything that's just Union Jacks - anything that can be misconstrued."

But a mail centre insider said: "This is madness. There are going to be thousands of families across Scotland waving Union Jacks on Friday, eating from Union Jack paper plates and so on.

"Some may be Rangers fans but I'm guessing that's a minority.

"Royal Mail seem to be saying the Union Jack is bigoted."

Quite incredible!

What next - the banning of the Queen's image from their stamps?

Where does the line get drawn??

Its going beyond silly.

Not that I would fly the flag for the royals but my grump is in a so called democracy (or should i say democrazy) the choice for those who wish to do so should be there considering its a British flag and has no offence to anyone.

I guess it's offensive to have a British passport as well? FFS.

No no no BD,it's the Union Flag that is offensive to them, not the passport or public Holiday they will get,or the overtime rate if they have to work,do they get a bonus with their giro as well?.

Mission accomplished, the media have made the union jack sectarian. I'd love to see them try ban the Irish flag on March 17th...

THAT is a very valid point.......

If folk are complaining bout displaying the British Flag, in Britain....what will happen when they display the Irish flag in Britain......you can't ban one & not the other, that then gets into discrimination.....
