In the world of football, are we now classed as a small club?

Scottish football is under-funded and over-priced which causes much of our problems.

Not to mention the fact the mentality in our country combines self-loathing with negativity and takes it to a whole new level.

If you watch the highlights of matches outwith the old firm 9 out of 10 times it's like watching a game on a sunday morning at a local park , kick and rush no composure at all , we will never learn until we change our outlook on how we play the game , and that starts with the coaches , just as an aside , we played well last night but for individual idiotic moments we would be in the next round , it wasn't a better team that beat us , we did it ourselves

I have thought that many times....it is even more evident when you watch games from Englandshire. The play seems more open & fluid. Up here, when someone gets the ball, they are generally crunched within a couple of seconds. Players don't get time on the ball.

Isn't that what the Scottish coaches preach and beat into their players? Style and techinque are not on a prime, it seems. And since the majority of managers in Scotland are of Scottish footballing pedigree, not much will change either. But then again, who could or can actually finance better football schools and trainers and coaches, given the lack of funding frankie bemoaned.

Are we a small club? No, we're a mid level European team with a modest budget - the Europa league is our fair level and truth be told always has been.

We've never been a club who seriously competed in the CL/European cup apart from literally 2 occasions (qualification for the last 16 under Eck, and one point off the final in 93).

We did very well in 2008 in the Uefa Cup and that really is about our level.

The CL excursions gives us finances which are most welcome, but we can't ever expect to compete with top teams even if we manage the odd outstanding result against them.

Small club? No. But certainly not a team who are at home in the CL either.

Mid range European side with a modest budget. Even if we're titans domestically.

I can't mind the last time I watched a SPL game outwith Rangers, they bore me to death and the way Rangers have played over the last few seasons I've even turned over to watch other games that were on at the same time. The SPL is dire and something needs to be done before it's just another Irish or Welsh league and it's not that far away with the standard we're at.

At a young level we tell kids you'll never make it as you're too wee or not strong enough, we all know the best players are the smaller ones, good example is of course Barca but there's many more, as you say it's all kick and rush but this is coached into them at a young age , it's all about pressing players and running about like headless chicken, we need coaching with just footballs. Surely we have coaches and can create a set up within our national game to coach different things to young kids? We've been known about this for decades and nothing has been done and we've probably spent millions trying to improve our coaching and facilities but it's obviously not working.

We need some outside influence on coaching methods, preferably a nation that could do all the basics and help improve technique, that Dutch guy at the SFA now might help?

We are a middle of the road European Team but our reputation will be slightly in decline after last night as it probably was after Kaunas.

He can't do any worse IMO, but we need this changed all over the country from a young age and I doubt this will happen.

Whenever I see some younger teams playing some of the coaches and parents are a joke, all they want is for their kid to be a good player and most of them don't give a toss about the other players or the team. The coaches always plays what he thinks is the best team (every week) leaving other kids out and hardly playing them, these kids then get bored and stop playing, it puts kids off. And all the coaches want to do is win at all costs, this should not be the case in young kids team, OK we all want to win but this doesn't help many young kids progress or become better players.

Sleeping giant springs to mind with us at the moment, if Uefa ever stop kissing the arses of the big teams and let clubs like ourselves a chance to set up our own league and earn the cash we deserve then you will see the giant awaken, but until then football in Europe will slowly continue to die.
