How long can we suffer Jim Sinclair? - Youth department change required

How long can we suffer Jimmy Sinclair ?

With the developement teams taking on Inverness CT at the weekend, The 15's & 17's were up in the Highlands and lost 5-2 and 2-1.

The 13's drew 1-1 at home, with only the 14's winning 12-0. So of the four age groups we could only beat Inverness CT at 14's.

I know its difficult times, but the youth deparment will not progress under the current Head Of Youth, but do we have the money to make a change ?

In my opinion we have to find it.

And apprently he has been in Qatar for the past week at a coaching seminar !!

I happen to agree , from memory Jimmy Sinclair was Bains appointment and his alone , much to the dissappointment of many on the football side , why he is still there and how long he will remain are totally different questions

"Results don't matter" is correct to a certain extent but there is plenty other evidence.

How many of the current 19's did he bring through the " Rangers System" ?

Lets look at Saturdays youth team

Alan Smith - Joined from Ireland at U18

Kyle McAusland - Signed for a development fee from Ayr Utd at U14

Adel Gafaiti - Joined from France at U17 (may have cost a fee)

Stuart Urquhart - Signed for a development fee from Hamilton Accies at U15

Matty Clarke - Joined from Northern Ireland at U17

Darren Ramsay - Came through the system

Lewis McLeod - Came through the system

Kamil Wiktorski - Joined from Poland at U17 (may have cost a fee)

Fraser Aird - Joined from Canada at U17

Robbie Crawford - Came through the system

Barrie McKay - Released by Kilmarnock at U18

Subs

Liam Kelly - Came through the system

Gregor Fotheringham - Came through the system

Tom Skogsrud - Expensive import from EPL at U19, not getting a game

Kim Skogsrud - Expensive import from EPL at U19, not getting a game

Aaron McGregor - Joined from Northern Ireland at U18

So only three that started was brought through from the younger teams. He can claim some credit for the two "purchases", so lets look at his record there. The following have been brought in for a fee and been released in the past year without making it to U19 level.

Callum McConnell - From St. Johnstone development fee paid now back at St.Johnstone

George Scott - From Clyde development fee paid now at Hearts

Callum Wyllie - From Alloa significant fee paid now at Hearts

Marc Dyer - From Ayr Utd significant fee paid now back at Ayr Utd

Darren McGill - from Kilmarnock SPL developmet fee paid now at Ayr United

Freddy Espling - I assume cost a fee now back in Sweden.

None of these players made it to U19's

Add to this another two U19 imports from EPL, Jack Werndley and Nikolaj Kholert both released in January after six months.

I've created a new thread for you on this subject elfideldo because it's a really worthwhile discussion.

From what you've been telling us over the past couple of years or so in the youth team thread, it does indeed sound as though the club could do with replacing Jim Sinclair, although I personally think that now is not the right time to really address the issue given the club's current situation. I think once the club is back on it's feet it's something that should definitely be addressed though!

I disagree. We may have to rely on the youth sooner rather than later. If it isnt working, if it is broken, then just get rid of the deadwood, including Sinclair - we are sinking at the youth level and, at that level, you MUST get it right or you lose the development.

Get rid of him if he isnt doing the job he was employed to do.

I mostly agree with you Craig, but it's only under new owners that the youth system is going to get it's much needed clear out and restructuring. It certainly needs done though, there's no doubt about that.

I sometimes get confused about youth developement. On the Scottish football debate they were going on about the developement of technique and awareness, winning being the last thing and certainly not the be all and end all.

The way they were going on, it seems to be a fault to just want to win all the time, we should nurture a diffirent philosophy amongst our youths.

All youths in Scottish footballl that is.

That seems to be a fault through out juniors over the past few years. I have noticed this especially since my daughter has been @ school. They no longer have a proper sports day (as I had...). It is all group challanges instead of running races etc - so that someone doesn't feel bad coz they didn't win...they're all winners....

The competitive spirit is being driven out of kids from their early years, then folk wonder why we don't win anything or succeed @ anything anymore - people are growing up believing its ok to finish 2nd!!!

Technique & awareness are vitally important, but so the the desire to win!!!

I don't know if it's right or wrong, but the Dutch seemed to have success with it.

Although the application of it might not be right in this overly PC country.

Mark Wotte is even the guy in charge of this change, for the SFA.
