SunSport can reveal that a UK consortium fronted by a highly-respected Scottish businessman will move in if Gers owner Whyte canâ??t get the latest plan to save the stricken Glasgow giants over the line. The powerful group has contacted administrator David Whitehouse to ensure that Rangers do NOT go into liquidation. Last night fevered talks continued with under-fire major shareholder Whyte desperate to clinch a future for the club. Sources close to his camp insisted that he WILL settle a deal for his shares today. If that fails, though, the New Knights will step in with significant financial backing and British investors to launch an eleventh-hour package to protect the clubâ??s 140-year history. Whyte is poised to sell his shares to a wealthy British consortium with Gers gaffer Ally McCoist set to meet the potential new owners today. The move comes just 48 hours after US tow-truck tycoon Bill Miller dramatically withdrew his offer for the club. Three deals for Gers are on the table with a mystery Middle East consortium vying with Singaporean bidder Bill Ng. Brian Kennedy, Paul Murray and the Blue Knights are also monitoring developments and, after another day of drama, bean counter Whitehouse emerged to confirm talks with interested parties are at an advanced stage. He said: â??Weâ??ve had some quite detailed discussions with three of the four bidders. â??We have had discussions with all four, but only detailed discussions with three of the four. Hopefully we will have more clarity tomorrow. â??They are very real bidders and although two of them are very late to the table they are actually very advanced in their thought process, well engaged with advisors and well funded. â??They would be â?? I believe â?? popular with fans. Both bids. â??They are known names in both football and also within the Scottish community. â??There is certainly a more natural empathy with the club than Bill Miller had. â??There is a Rangers connection there. They want anonymity, but that will break in the next 24 to 48 hours. â??These bidders are in a position where they are well known and if they put their heads above the parapet there will be a crescendo of interest and support and they donâ??t want that yet. They will only do so if they are in a position of likely success.â? As SunSport revealed yesterday, the UK consortium â?? made up of a number of people with Premiership experience â?? are now the front-runners. Whitehouse added: â??Three of the four bidders are in the hands of lawyers. â??The lawyers have been instructed and there is documentation, etc, so are they at the forefront? â??They are certainly at a very advanced stage but so are two of the others. â??Brian Kennedy is what I would describe as the fourth bid.â? Whitehouse confirmed that further talks with Sale Sharks owner Kennedy had taken place. He said: â??Weâ??ve had discussions with Brian Kennedyâ??s advisors. Paul Murray has not come back to us. â??What we have tried to establish today is whether Brianâ??s discussions are on behalf of the Blue Knights or on behalf of Brian Kennedy and we await that clarity.â? US-based Miller pulled the plug on his £11.2m bid just days after being given preferred bidder status. But Whitehouse remains convinced a new buyer can be found before Friday. Whitehouse said: â??Bill Miller formed the view that the core income of the business was too vulnerable because of the negative fan reaction. â??Our view was that it was, in no small part, through the unwillingness to engage with the fan base. â??If he had been more media friendly, perhaps the reaction might have been different. â??But his lawyers told us that during the last three days of due diligence he was getting in excess of 1000 emails. Thatâ??s what we were told. â??When you get that level of negativity you have to query if the income is secure. â??But the momentum that has gathered in the last couple of days makes it highly unlikely we wonâ??t find a buyer.
