SFL invite TV bids for live matches

Recommended Posts

That is a hell of a lot of games. Far too many in my opinion.

The Scottish Football League has approached broadcasters with a package to show up to 25 live Rangers matches in Division Three next season.

However, any deal cannot be finalised until the Scottish FA grant membership to the newco club.

The SFL's media representative IMG, is inviting bids from interested parties, with a closing date of Monday.

The proposed deal includes the opportunity to broadcast all 18 of Rangers' away league matches.

Members of the Rangers board held talks with the SFA on Tuesday, but there is debate over what punishments they will accept in return for membership.

It is understood the SFA want the newco club to accept the 12-month transfer embargo handed out to the old company for bringing the game into disrepute.

The governing body also want guarantees from Charles Green's consortium that all football debts will be cleared.

The SFL TV deal on offer is subject to certain criteria, including fixture clashes, scheduling clashes and policing but with the start of the new season less than three weeks away, they want all parties to move quickly.

And BBC Scotland has learned that several parties have already declared an interest.

As the SFL look for a broadcast partner, their counterparts at the Scottish Premeir League continue negotiations over their own television and radio deals.

SPL chief executive Neil Doncaster has spent the last 48 hours in talks with Sky and ESPN discussing what they are willing to pay for a top league without Rangers.

So 7 of our 18 home games would be shown on TV?

Not chuffed about this, we will probably struggle to get the numbers through the gates at Ibrox enough next year without giving the 'fans' the option to sit and watch it at home not to mention the fact that the kick offs will change away from Sat at 3pm.

Interesting tactic though from the SFL. In effect, this puts pressure on the SFA to grant membership.

Seems the TV Co's may fancy the fairytale story of Rangers going through the leagues. They must realise the massive following we have along with the interest of this season.

Dundee Utd v Aberdeen cant be of interest compared to Queens Pk v Rangers at Hampden.

Remember the words if the sfl when some of their members called for vote of no confidence where Regan is concerned. Now is not the time. I think that time is just round the corner! The is no way the sfl will allow Regan to snatch this cash cow from their grasp. And for good measure we should broker a deal that sees the tv money distributed amongst the three divisions to keep everyone in the sfl on board.

Thank goodness, a bargaining counter in our hands for once. I would hope this deal can be struck within the week, as then the SFA, should they deny us membership, would be obliged to explain how depriving SFL3 clubs of £xxx over the coming season benefits Scottish football.

In this light, Charles not coming to a quick agreement with the SFA takes on a new significance.

SFL going to wring every last penny they can out of us for 3 years.

The SPL has been doing it for 14 years, so whats the difference apart from this time the smaller clubs, who were excluded when the SPL broke away, get a fairer allocation of the cash.

On top of the settlement of £2M per year from the SPL, that makes the SFL tv money almost half of what can be expected the SPL to get! As we are now members of the SFL that has got to be a good thing.
