I was told last night that the bookies have stopped taking bets on Butcher becoming Rangers manager for the start of next season.

Personally, I didn't even know they were taking those bets.

Take with a pinch of salt.

Ally is a very persuasive man with a fantastic cv: -

Greatest centre-forward ever in a Rangers shirt.

Adored by the general public in Great Britain for his excellent input on BBC's QoS.

Fantastic camaraderie with the media and his staff and players.

He craves to be a successful manager of the club he loves.

Judging by what I've been witnessing, I fear it may be a bridge to far

Im pretty sure even if Ally was planning on leaving he'd still try to give his all for the team and sign players where possible now.

Sky bet have a few decent names but more ridiculous names as our next Permanent manager.

Billy Reid 11/4 fav

B Laudrup 7/2

Stuart McCall 5/1

Terry Butcher 8/1

Billy Davies 11/1

Neil Warnock 14/1

Alex McLeish 18/1

Walter Smith 20/1

Brian McDermott 25/1

Nigel Spackman 25/1

Kenny McDowall 33/1

Kenny Shiels 33/1

Richard Gough 33/1

All these 50/1 - Barry Ferguson, Frank De Boer, Paulo Di Canio, Steve Lomas, Stuart Pearce, Jim Duffy, Derek McInnes, Steven Pressley, Owen Coyle, Jim Jefferies, Mark Hughes, Nigel Atkins

Alex Ferguson 66/1

Roy Keane, Steve Kean and Neil Lennon 66/1 - who makes these up!

Jose Mourinho 100/1

The bookies arent stupid Gribz.... just think about it, if someone is stupid enough to place a bet on Neil Lennon to be our next manager then the bookies have just earned themselves free money. Neil Lennon's odds should be closer to 10 million/1 - there would be a mutiny of his name was ever mentioned in terms of our next manager. So the bookies would be on easy street if someone took that bet.

Wouldnt mind Sir Alex for a couple of years, have him shake the place upside down from top to bottom - even if not as manager, we could certainly use him as a consultant.

Bookies odds are not directly related to the real odds of something happening, they are based on how much they'd have to pay out if it did. They then fix it so that most of the time they make a profit no matter what happens. If someone puts a million on Lennon his odds will drop to odds-on favourite...
