The bookies arent stupid Gribz.... just think about it, if someone is stupid enough to place a bet on Neil Lennon to be our next manager then the bookies have just earned themselves free money. Neil Lennon's odds should be closer to 10 million/1 - there would be a mutiny of his name was ever mentioned in terms of our next manager. So the bookies would be on easy street if someone took that bet.

Wouldnt mind Sir Alex for a couple of years, have him shake the place upside down from top to bottom - even if not as manager, we could certainly use him as a consultant.

the trouble with 10 million to 1 odds is it gives someone who bets a 100 quid on it a lot of money and scope to make it happen.

If someone puts 100 quid on Lennon being our next manager what scope does he have to make it happen ? There would be an inquiry and in all likelihood the bookies would be refusing to pay out and if someone "had the scope to make it happen" then the bookies would for sure be able to hide behind some of their nefarious T&C.

Bookies odds are not directly related to the real odds of something happening, they are based on how much they'd have to pay out if it did. They then fix it so that most of the time they make a profit no matter what happens. If someone puts a million on Lennon his odds will drop to odds-on favourite...

I am well aware how the bookies work, thanks. I wasnt expecting anyone to take me literally - perhaps I should just be literal in future for the avoidance of doubt.

Wasn't replying to you particularly and didn't mean to put your nose out of joint. I was just offering some reasoning behind the bookies odds which do look strange at first glance.

I think they signed on the strength of (a) the money they would be getting and (b) because of the club, not the manager.

You've got to respect and be able to work with a manager and so I think you're doing Ally a disservice. There are plenty of players who have been persuaded by the manager to go to a club where they'd have turned down a different one. Gazza is probably one of those.

at ten million to one he would have a billion quid. he could buy the club and pay lennon whatever it took.

i imagine the bookies would have to pay out.

but were just having fun with that.

I was told last night that the bookies have stopped taking bets on Butcher becoming Rangers manager for the start of next season.

Personally, I didn't even know they were taking those bets.

Take with a pinch of salt.

The only reason they would have started taking bets is just to fleece the mug punters. Butcher? Indeed! The very idea.
