KENNY McDOWALL watched Belil Mohsni turn in another impressive display for Rangers then spoke of his hope Craig Mather can strike a deal with the defender.

French-Tunisian Mohsni once again strolled through this eveningâ??s match as FC Gutersloh were beaten 1-0 and he played the full 90 minutes.

He nearly scored his first goal for the club in the first half and was unfortunate to see a strong header rebound off the bar.

Chief executive Mather was in Germany to see tonightâ??s fixture and he has spoken to the 25-year-old today.

Nothing has been agreed yet but there is an appetite on all sides to come to a positive conclusion.

McDowall said: â??Craig is here along with Walter Smith and I know that along with the manager, theyâ??ve both been talking to Belil.

â??Weâ??re very hopeful that we can get it done pretty soon. He played for us tonight and did very well again.

â??We have been really happy with Belil and weâ??re just looking to get things over the line there now.

â??He has put himself on the line and we take our hat off to him for doing that. There arenâ??t many people whoâ??ll come on trial.

â??To be fair to Belil, he went up north with us and came over to Germany. He has played in all the games and has done everything weâ??ve asked him to do.

â??He has done fantastically well in our matches and hopefully we can get him to put pen to paper and move forward from there.â?

In a way, it would be reassuring if he didn't sign. Here's a player we want and he's obviously interested in us, but if we don't sign him then it sends out a message that there's a financial line that we won't cross and will not be held to ransom.

On the other hand, if we're looking at 2 central defenders (Mohsni & Pandza) and Belil Mohsni is the better of the two, then I'd like to see us sign the better one.

I don't mean to sound defeatist, but knowing us, we'll probably let the Mohsni deal fall through even although we've had him on trial and seen that he's a good player and sign a player we haven't had a proper look at instead.
