Once again Rangers Football Club has been inundated with complaints from supporters angered by a comment made on a BBC Scotland Sportsound programme.

On Wednesday night (September 4) one of their presenters referred to Rangers as ‘the old club.’ He also said ‘the club that died.’

The presenter stated this even though the BBC Trust had ruled in June that BBC Scotland had breached its guidelines with the use of the terms ‘new’ and ‘old’ when reporting on Rangers.

The Trust upheld two complaints that the BBC were wrong to use ‘new’ in relation to our Club but it appears BBC Scotland are determined to continue to ignore a clear ruling of its own Trust.

The part of the programme in which the presenter made his remarks was edited out of the podcast of Wednesday evening’s programme, presumably because the BBC realised the presenter had gone against the guidelines. However, there has been no attempt to issue an apology and the Club shares our supporters’ view that the remarks were both unacceptable and ill-advised.

Rangers’ lawyers have been instructed to write to the BBC Trust highlighting this latest breach of BBC guidelines and BBC Radio Scotland’s apparent unwillingness to observe the Trust’s ruling. They will also seek confirmation of what steps will be taken by the BBC, particularly in relation to the BBC Scotland’s journalists, to ensure these breaches stop.

Decent statement. Remains to be seen if BBC Scotland's sports presenters(if they can be called that) will continue to ignore this ruling and what action will be taken if they do. So far we've had words but no action from the BBC Scotland hierarchy

You've got to think that this is a bit embarrassing for those not Celtic minded and higher up the management tree. Unless they see this as "no such thing as bad publicity".

After all, it's not hard for normal, sane people to consciously stop referring to a football club that has a new company as one that died. Not hard at all. They must be looking at Jim Spence and feeling like skelping him around the head - after all he brings that reaction out in people before he opens his mouth.

While they act arrogantly on the outside there must be some chief of something somewhere shaking his head for the umpteenth time and running out of patience with a problem department.

Or I'm I dreaming of a saner world?

Bad publicity is never particularly damaging for the BBC even on a national level because they don't have advertisers to lose and essentially the public are forced to pay for this state-run corporation whether it's a corrupted and manipulated propaganda machine or not.

Decent statement from the club (presumably Traynor is onto this one?), but is this just a distraction from the more important issues facing the club or have the board released a statement today regarding the EGM Requisition?

Good statement from the club. There really is no excuse for coming out with these kind of statements!

There is nothing but contempt and bitterness from virtually all the media here, and how some of these guys actually get jobs in the media is beyond belief as they are bloody awful reporters.

it's good to see our club hitting back, we've lay down for far too long....
