Board Statement

THE Board of Rangers Football Club takes serious issue with grossly misleading statements made to The Scotsman newspaper by the club’s former chairman Mr Malcolm Murray.

Mr Murray claimed in an interview that Ibrox Chief Executive Craig Mather’s assertion that he (Murray) decided the controversial levels of executive salaries at the club was “misleading and vexatious.”

Mr Murray also claimed he “joined the Board on the recommendation of the institutions to instil a high level of corporate governance at Rangers.”

These are the facts:

  • Mr Murray was appointed by Charles Green on June 14 2012 to Sevco Scotland (now Rangers Football Club Ltd). There were no institutions in the Club then. The Club IPO was on December 19 2012 so it is grossly inaccurate to say Mr Murray was put there by said institutions to oversee corporate governance.
  • Mr Murray proposed Craig Mather to the board.
  • Mr Murray agreed Brian Stockbridge’s salary and bonus.
  • Mr Murray agreed Mr Green’s salary and bonus.
  • Mr Murray negotiated Mr Green’s compromise agreement and signed it off.
  • Mr Murray was removed from the Pinsent Masons investigation by the board after leaking information to a third party.

The Board of Rangers Football Club are appalled and saddened at the current demeanour of Mr Malcolm Murray and the damage that he is causing to the Club and regard his behaviour as totally unbefitting a once respected practitioner in the City of London’s financial community.

Steve, just in case you're wondering, I edited your post for copyright reasons and copied it out to a new post as well, so that it's got it's own thread.

If we're posting articles (including these constant statements from the board) from the Club's official site, we need to give a proper credit (state the article writer, in this case it's just "Written by Rangers Football Club") and we also need to include a URL linking back to the original article on www.rangers.co.uk

We just need to do these things to comply with the official sites new stricter attention to copyright laws. I think they tightened things up because the mainstream media were using quotes from their content without giving any credits or complying with copyright laws.

As to the first bit, he was plainly put in to convince institutions; because he had experience of & influence with institutions; and he could sell to institutions. That was obvious in the Murray piece and this rebuttal is feeble semantics.

As to the payments, all these points were admitted by Murray. He also pointed out he didn't like them or the way they were brought about.

Still, never mind. Every time they open their mouths just reminds me how much out of place they are inside Ibrox. No doubt their appalled sadness will lead to Mr Stockbridge being dismissed forthwith after his youtube episode, behaviour which easily falls under the category of 'totally unbefitting'.

Total embarrassment seeing the club being run this way making these types of petty mudslinging statements on a regular basis. It's disgraceful.

Sadly the PR war will get a lot worse as we get closer to the AGM, so while there's sure to be spin from both sides, we can certainly expect plenty of embarrassing shite to be spoken and written by our board & their pal Toxic Jack (plus his scuttling minions).

The incompetent clowns running our club are a joke.

What is unbefitting is the sly dig that Malcolm Murray was "a once respected practitioner...." - horrible, snidey dig.

Guess what, Board of RFC.... I bet dollars to donuts (or a pound to a pinch of shit) that Malcolm Murray STILL has far more respect in the City of London financial hub that ALL of you put together.
