Should never have been appointed in the first place. Poor decision by Dave to take such a tough job too.

Totally agree.

Golden opportunity for us to to bring him back in charge of defensive coaching (all levels) at Auchenhowie and

the first team squad.

It's about team we we were were building in cradle to grave capacity. No need for different mentalities. Any defensive player, any level would fully understand the systems he's expected to perform within.

On another level SDOW's a motivator and great health example. Just what's needed.

Im convinced he would do a great job for us and produce some great marketable product for us, and also

improving our defensive position into the bargain.

The only issue in bringing him back could be if Weir and family would uproot from the Merseyside area. They were settled there even when he was playing and Id imagine they stayed there while he worked in Sheffield as its not a massive drive to there.

TBH I didn't see him as a manager straight away, and the Sheff Utd job which is a tough one! They demand being top of that league and they have been unsettled for years with changing manager a lot. I hope Stuart McCall doesn't take it but he'll be a favourite.

I more see DW as an assistant or coach. Would be a scoop for us in that department.

Ah the mysteries of football management. It's so rarely the players you expect to be good managers who turn out to be. No one would have picked Alex Ferguson as managerial material when he was a player, or indeed Walter Smith who was a low profile journeyman at best. The list of players who were great captains, spoke well and commanded respect from players, fans and media alike and yet were abysmal managers is endless.

John Greig should have been our greatest manager, Sandy Jardine, Richard Gough, John McClelland, Trevor Steven all looked like managerial material when players. Who'd have thought Stuart McCall would be a good manager, or Derek McInness, or Allan Johnson?

It's a counter intuitive profession that's for sure.

Big gamble by the club in appointing a manager with no previous top job experience and also not the best situation / club for DW to begin his managing career either.

No surprise that he has toiled from day 1, formation, tactics and results shambolic, papped out of cups early doors, once by a pub team in the 2nd game in the job, very poor against mediocre teams and generally a rookie disaster.

No manager or club would put up with that scenario.

You cite John McLelland (for one) as being managerial material, yet doubt whether Stuart McCall would have been any good.

Where the hell is the logic in that argument?

Astonishing rubbish which takes away from any good points you make (which aren't many).

Agree with all..... Except McCall, always thought he would make managerial material
