BOBBY Madden has been appointed to referee the William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final between Rangers and Dundee United.

And the fixture at Ibrox on Saturday week will have a total of six officials.

Madden's assistants for the game between the League One champions and the Premiership club will be Graham Chambers and Alastair Mather.

The fourth official will be Calum Murray while the additional assistant referees will be John Beaton and Alan Muir.

United have sold 10,500 tickets for the semi-final against Rangers.

United had previously indicated they would seek up to 20,000 tickets for the encounter.

United director Derek Robertson said: "We'll probably have to get back to the SFA in the next couple of days to let them know the numbers. I would urge anyone who has not yet bought their tickets to do so in the next few days."

With Hampden Park being redeveloped for the Commonwealth Games, the SFA chose Rangers' stadium to host both semi-finals back in October.

Robertson said it would be the biggest support the club had taken to a semi-final.

He added: "We're very happy with the numbers so far."

United were initially offered 11,063 seats for the match.

But the club's representative said that "in order to ensure maximum attendance" United would prefer to only be allocated the 8012-seat Broomloan Road stand.

The club had complained about Ibrox being chosen as the venue for the tie.

But last weekend SFA chief executive Stewart Regan defended the move.

"It was a planning decision," Regan said. "When you're putting a major cup competition together, you spend a lot of time discussing it with your sponsors.

"We certainly did that with William Hill.

"We needed to take the semi-finals and final to venues that would cope with the demand for tickets."

So they haven't even sold their allocation yet. Surprise surprise.

Referee's ............... I haven't read or cared about who was refereeing a game for a long time.

Come to think of it ................. the standard must have improved as I haven't seen the yahoo's complaining about them these past two seasons. Funny that.

... actually, someone on FF noted that people were moaning that Bobby Madden is rumoured to be a ST holder at Ibrox!

10.5k already sold! That just 100 shy of their home game against the Yahoos late last year. Their top home crowd this season, methinks. What's the income split for that cup game again?

2 semis are pooled as far as I understand.

Will then be expenses, SFA take, and split between the four semi-finalists I presume.

You must have missed their sole league defeat at Pittodrie recently then where Lennon called the ref a cheat, and Lunny apparantly agreed as he has taken no action against him.

Imagine.

Rangers have a last-gasp effort cleared from a position that looks to be over the line. The referee and assistant don't immediately award a goal because they aren't sure, but one of the officials behind the goal states that the ball was over the line and that a goal should be awarded.

Television pictures confirm that it is indeed a legitimate goal.

Rangers win 1-0.

A fortnight of Radio Clyde and BBC Scotland analysis follows; why were extra officials required for this game, who requested them, was it Rangers, is it an establishment plot, is it a conspiracy, should UEFA be consulted - should the government intervene?

If it happens the other way though - a universal 'well done' to the SFA for employing extra officials.

Am I paranoid?

Or am I right?

Or am I right?

Maybe both? :)

Seriously though, I'll take any win at all in these remaining cup games. Deserved, undeserved, controversial, anything. I really don't care so long as we win.

On the other hand, it would be fantastic to win both the Ramsdens Final and the Scottish Cup Semi very comfortably. Winning both by a couple of goals or more would be ideal.

All money Is collected by the sfa for both games. They then take there cut. Pay rangers for renting ibrox twice. Then split what's left 4 ways between the 4 semifinalists

I thought they only accepted 8012 tickets, but they have sold 10500?

Like Zappa says any result in our favour in this game would be sweet, the last thing I want is a no show and poor defeat. At least compete with them. I cant think of anything worse than losing this tie or the final to Aberdeen on a whimper.
