GRAHAM WALLACE insists Rangers are making 'substantial progress off the field' as they gear up for next season's SPFL Championship campaign.

The Light Blues this week clinched a shirt sponsorship deal with online casino giants 32Red, who will replace Blackthorn in the summer and become the Gers' partners for the next three seasons.

Ally McCoist's side are just one season away from their return to the Scottish top flight and chief executive Wallace said: "We are delighted to announce this deal. It shows we are making substantial progress off the field.

"This is a good long-term partnership for Rangers.

"We can leverage the strength of the 32Red brand and this deal can help reinvigorate the Rangers brand domestically and internationally.

"We are working very hard to re-energise and reposition the club on the international stage. That goes hand in hand with our progression up the leagues and we are planning for next season in the Championship with one eye very firmly on the seasons beyond that.

"Having a strong commercial partnership portfolio is very important to the club.

"Attracting blue chip brands to be partners allows us to grow our commercial revenue which in turn allows us to reinvest right across the business. We are very pleased with this deal and it is the first, tangible step in our new commercial strategy.

"The Championship will be a very competitive division and we are doing all our preparation to make sure that, in the true traditions of Rangers Football Club, we expect to be competitive and we expect to be successful."

Wallace is due to complete his 120-day overview of the books at Ibrox on Friday but the club confirmed this week that they will only publish an 'update' on April 25.

Wallace said: "We will shortly be publishing the results of the club's business review, as we committed to do, following an in-depth review of all areas of club operations.

"This will give fans an insight into understanding the current status of club operations and how we are working to put in place what is needed to build for future success."

The lack of clarity with regard to this review is quite frankly a disgrace.

Fans have been happy enough to give this board 120 days to complete the review and the very least we should have received was a cooling-off period to analyse the contents before having to decide whether or not to renew our season tickets - upwards of £320 is a lot of money for most people. To not receive that buffer is, IMHO, a damning indictment on those who run Rangers. It's a complete lack of respect for the people who make the club viable every single season.

was it not gunslinger who said, approximately 120 days ago, that this 120 review period was nothing more than a con to keep the pressure off the board until it came time to renew the season tickets? And lo, he did speaketh true.

There have been a few people suggesting this but clearly most bears would prefer to seek the middle ground and give this 'new' board the time to persuade them they're the real deal.

Unfortunately, with low-blows like this, it only makes the worries about the conduct of the board all the more difficult to argue with.

I genuinely find their actions here indefensible but hopefully the review contents will appear asap and bears will get the chance to ruminate over the contents before they renew.

'The strength of the 32Red brand', you have to laugh.

Look into Shareholders and Directors, there are common threads woven throughout, Miton, Artemis etc.

Are you saying that these investors in Rangers themselves invest in the sponsor, if so that's hardly a surprise is it? Wouldn't it be fairly obvious to ask the investors if they had any possible sponsors or commercial partners in their own portfolios?

There are quite a few actions by the Board that have been indefensible, but they know there is a "here today, gone tomorrow" characteristic about their actions.

Huge indefensible pay offs. The great EGM/AGM stitch up. Chasing fans and threatening them with legal action. The attempted 30% pa with collateral loan heist. Disgraceful PR and statements that have been beneath the dignity of our Club.

How much just disappears forgotten into the past?

32Red is hardly a famous/well known Brand, just perhaps Rangers never tried too hard. We will see when the details are announced.

On the timing Frankie, I agree that this 25th-28th thing looks bad and I accept that we are an unusual times but I have to repeat that I don't think that the outcome of the review is the main deciding factor for most people in their decision whether or not to renew. Let's say the review tells us nothing new, what percentage of fans will not renew on that basis? Personally I think it will have quite a lot to offer if the new sponsorship trailer is anything to go by.

The cynics may well be right that the timing was engineered but equally there can be no doubt that a comprehensive review was required. Not much point in bringing in professionals like Wallace and Nash and then saying just carry on in the same disastrous way the Club has been run these past several years.

However, how could this clash of dates have been avoided. Shorten the review period, possible; but then Wallace would have argued he didn't have enough time. Delay the ST renewals till May as normal; but we are desperate for money.

This has been a deply embarrassing period for the Club never mind it's supporters; of that there is no doubt.
