Consider Ally McCoist and his long history with Rangers.

As you say, he's naturally going to get the benefit of the doubt relative to what is seen and perceived regards the past.

For AMcC, the manager, this translates into time when things go badly.

McCoist has a large block of credit built up and the very fact that many have decided that this time has run out would suggest that in real terms (if it was someone else) his time was up a while ago.

Two other things have effected the timescale.

1. The ongoing nightmare/process that is aflicting our club which has made life more difficult / provided excuses / balance between the two.

2. Media coverage of Ally McCoist throughout the nightmare which IMO has been overly generous and not reflected reality.

If McCoist is really as poor a manager as some seem to think, then next season he'll fail to get past the first serious league opposition he's had to face on our journey back to the Premiership and that will be the end of him.

However, I think he'll win the league and keep his job for at least one crack at Celtic.

January 2007 proved to be a crossroads that determined and committed Rangers to the past.

There are 101 issues within this and not all were without benefit and a degree of short-term logic given circumstances.

But the specific I refer to here, was Ally being provisionally told he would be the next Rangers manager.

From that day to this, seven and a half years later, I'm still to see any evidence, let alone a case, that suggests Ally McCoist has the qualities to be a football club manager or has shown that he is able to learn and improve through experience.

Problem with this rolling contract arrangement (if correct)is we will have a years pay off to make when his time comes unless someone bites the bullet and gives him one years notice. Give him one years notice now. if in a years time he is worth a new deal then make a new deal then at realistic rates etc if he is fucking up at christmas then pay off will be half and finally if he doesn't like that arrangement he can walk now.

SBS should be utterly embarrassed by his initial post. A man that has given decades to the club being spoken of in such a manner is unbecoming of Rangers fans IMHO.

Yet he gets to skate by whilst dB gets a warning for announcing SBS is on his ignore list ?

The initial post was more worthy of a warning than dZb's retort. Talk about messed up treatment......

Problem craig is that many, myself included, don't view allys managerial performance as a littany of hard luck times and heroic selfless acts. More like poor judgement, lack of managerial skills, poor football tactics and a nose so far in the trough it would make some other leeches at ibrox in recent time blush like a nun in a whorehouse. By taking on the massive task that is rangers manager his playing record was always going to be forgotten if he messed up.. That happens everywhere.. Even now some commentators saying if henrik was to take celtic job would he risk his god like status for a shot at manager success!

There's a thread on here where a bluenose is trying to bring fans together so they can agree about how they speak about and to each other, it's a sad but admirable post. I wonder if that same thought might be extended to one of our greatest ever players, certainly our best known, most popular and most successful of the modern era.

A man who almost singlehandedly held our club together as we entered our lowest ebb, who was the only person speaking to players, coaches and administrative staff alike, who spent more time dealing with accountants, lawyers and media than footballers during that period.

A man who even today remains for many of us the only recognisable connection to the Rangers we grew up with and fell in love with. A beacon of light in the darkness of hedge funds, corporate raiders, vicious media and crooked game administrators. A lifelong supporter, a superb goal scorer for club and country, a man who always made time for supporters and is arguably the club's greatest ever ambassador.

A man who despite some obvious deficiencies has managed to steer us to two straight promotions and the brink of a return to the top flight. A man who if he ever did 'walk away' might open us up to God knows who in our managers seat; certainly someone cheap, director pliable and without any currency with the support.

So perhaps those posters who seem unable to discuss any topic on here without directing vitriol at Ally McCoist might like to step back from the hate-filled posts that are becoming ever more noticeable on here and reflect on the language they use when discussing our manager.

Congratulations to the new Mrs McCoist, you have married not only a warm, personable and charismatic man but also a man who Rangers history will mention in the same breath as William Struth, Moses and Peter McNeil, Tom Vallance, Peter Campbell, William McBeath, Willie Woodburn, George Young and Willie Waddell. A true legend, a man who has done as much on the park as anyone in our history and more off it than anyone ever before him. And his story is still not finished.

Think about that please the next time you feel like posting about how much you are sick of seeing his face or when you question if he has our best interests at heart.

Seriously, Celtic fans wouldn't speak about him the way some us do. It shames you, it shames all of us.

My 70 odd year old mother would have steered us to two straight promotions and the brink of a return to the top flight. Yet she does not even use a sledgehammer to crack a nut. But.

Is this the man who won't walk that never knew that he was getting paid over £800k a year? Yet the same guy who wanted his pay reinstated fully after the admin debacle? The man who told us in the Ibrox suite - in the company of Green, Stockbridge et all that he could not tell us to buy season tickets but a few weeks later changed his mind and set Greenco on their way when otherwise they would have been finished before they begun? The man who by sheer chance got a million shares @ 1p a pop in the short intervening period.

Best we do not start on his performance as a manager. Even after the Kaunas learning experience with his buddy Walter, he contrived to take Malmo for granted, could not prepare his players, lost all discipline and blew CL qualificaton. The first task he had as our manager. And the same man who went drastically downhill from there, impossible as that seemed to be to achieve.

No wonder he never walked away, his soul was bought. Cheap as well, as far as Greenco was concerned.

Perhaps similar to a lifelong bluenose refusing to sign for us because he loved us too much. Or the likes of Sunderland offered more dosh perhaps.

After the post of Amms this is an excellent post in the other direction. Whether you agree or not.
