Wide Boys And Tea Boys

October 15, 2014

The Dave King Roadshow is in town, with the Scarlet Pimpernel himself making an appearance.

Media reports claim King is confident that his £16 million package will be looked upon favourably by the board.

Like many other bluenoses, I am unconvinced. King’s 16 million would be welcome in the Ibrox coffers but not with the condition that the South African based businessman is crowned King of the boardroom.

There is, of course, the little problem of Mike Ashley.

He has been targeted again this week by the Rangers-hating press who desperately want to prevent a man with real money taking the reins at Scotland’s biggest club. But this will only make him all the more determined if doing just that is an important enough project for him. Rangers is really a no-brainer for Ashley. For a fraction of the cost he has incurred at Newcastle, he can be the kingpin of a Champions League team which also happens to be a global brand much in line with his own British brands in Sports Direct. Even his shops look like bluenose heaven, with distinctive red, white and blue logos and Union Jacks everywhere.

Rangers and Ashley are the perfect match in many ways – particularly if he gets the club in his blood.

Dave King’s bluenose credentials might be far more verifiable to some but there is also the suspicion among many that he is motivated by a desire to recoup the now mythical £20 million he “lost” under the David Murray regime. The fact that King was a director during this regime might make some think he is rather careless with his money.

This is King’s big play, it would appear. He has adopted the first-to-the-table approach I wrote about previously, thus putting pressure on any rivals to put up or take his “bailout” package. That we need a bailout due to King’s minions agitating and depriving the club of much-needed revenue is something King hopes most fans will forget in time.

King is a wily operator but skates on ice that is too thin for more than a few Rangers supporters. The shocking summation of King’s character and integrity by Justice Southwood – now borne out by the vicious campaign he has waged against the present regime – is too much for some to swallow. Should King manage to get control at Ibrox, he will possibly lose these fans. They might not be great in numbers but they will be the cream of the support.

In many ways the boardroom wars are like Groundhog Day in that the run-up to the AGM this year very much mirrors last year. This year it is Dave King and the Union; last year it was Mini and his Requisitioners. All hoping to get power without doing what the incumbents did – pay for the privilege. King at least has ponied up some cash but it is a paltry amount in the long term and if he is hoping to run the club based on existing revenue streams then it won’t be long before we need another bailout.

Last year I said after all the brouhaha, the club’s future would be decided not by fans but by shareholders. This year it is no different. Malcontents in the fan base might disrupt certain things but they have no real power. In fact, their attempts to mess with Mike Ashley’s business have only demonstrated to him how easy they would be to snuff out.

Rangers will go to the one who shareholders decide is the best custodian.

And King just doesn’t have the resources. Or the support.

As for suggestions that Ashley and King could work together, I am sure that Mike Ashley already has someone to make him a cup of tea….

Once, There Was a Donkey...

by Chris Graham | Contributor

Once, there was a donkey.

The donkey was content roaming around, being a donkey, but we here at the CRO felt that the donkey needed a home so we took it in, sheltered it, fed it lovely carrots and for a while the donkey was happy. But the donkey had a bit of an ego and the donkey was a bit gullible. The donkey believed in sky fairies and money trees and it soon became apparent that the donkey and the rest of the CRO stable could not get along.

The donkey met a tiny, rotund jockey, with Cuban heels, who told the donkey that he could make the donkey famous. The jockey had let himself go and was really in no fit state to ride anything but the donkey had never been ridden before so it didn’t know any better.

The jockey realised that the donkey wasn’t very bright and was very low maintenance. The jockey didn’t even have to feed the donkey carrots. The jockey could literally feed the donkey any old shit and the donkey would do whatever the jockey wanted.

So the tiny little jockey with Cuban heels rode the donkey around and the donkey was content. The jockey introduced the donkey to his benefactor - a scary looking, big chap with his own company who agreed to sponsor the donkey. The jockey told the benefactor that the donkey would not only eat shit and like it but the donkey would do whatever you told it to do as long as you made the donkey believe that it was a magnificent racehorse.

The jockey and his benefactor made the donkey perform on the beach and the donkey was too stupid to realise that nobody actually believed that it was a magnificent racehorse. More and more people came to see the donkey. The donkey thought that the people were marvelling at its brilliance but they just came to ridicule it.

The people tried to warn the donkey that the jockey and his benefactor were making the donkey look stupid but the donkey wouldn’t listen. People called the RSPCA but the jockey just told them that the donkey was content and when they asked the donkey it just kept warbling about money trees and how much it loved the jockey.

So, dear reader, spare a thought tonight for the gullible donkey and don’t be too harsh on it when you next see it perform.

It just stuns me the amount of publicity McMurdo gets for being such non-entity who spouts absolute egotistic nonsnese.

The on-line Rangers support should just ignore him and stop giving him the attention he craves.

IMO we should start by NOT posting his guff on reputable sites like this.

I disagree - there is a degree of value to be had in reading his propaganda imo

It allows people to see how transparent that some of the attempted manipulation of the support is

It's difficult to know where to draw a line MB.

Bill might write a lot of propaganda fueled nonsense at times, but as Greg says, the propaganda & spin is worth reading, even if it's just to keep an eye on what's being written.
