The biggest factor in possible managerial change at our club, is Mike Ashley. He is paying a most demanding piper on a monthly basis. The obvious reference is Newcastle United, where he awarded Alan Pardew with an eight year contract. All his business dealings highlight fierce loyalty to an inner circle. Newcastle fans have regularly vented dissatisfaction with Pardew, but Ashley has remained loyal and at this moment United sit fifth in the Premiership.

Will Ally vow undying loyalty to Mike?

Ashely used to hire and fire managers at Newcastle but came to the view that it led to wasting a lot of money, paying off managers and bringing in new players for the next one. His financial strategy wouldn't work doing this, so he changed tack and went to the other extreme, a statement of intent, an 8 year deal for Pardew and an impervious, water off a ducks back reaction to calls for his head.

He needed someone who was onside with what he wanted, someone who wouldn't rock the boat and would remain loyal to him, if not always the club.

I don't disagree with sticking by your manager but you have to get the choice right.

However, over and above that we need a board who have the long-term interests of the club as their priority.

Giving an eight-year contract to any manager is unwise. In the modern era, we tire fairly quickly of managers. They eventually run out of excuses and too often have little tactical variation. They also become repetitive in the dressing room and players learn to ease off under the poorer ones.

Already we're at the stage where Ally's utterances infuriate every time he opens his mouth.

Whoever we go for next, contracts like this should be out of bounds.

Meanwhile, over at Hearts:

“The players are back in tomorrow morning at 9:30,

but I’ve given them a day off on Monday. It’s a

special treat for winning today. Well, only some of

them are off, not everyone!"

Says it all

ally was probably up first on the karaoke last night.

We all do daft things. Mourinho doesn't shake hands at times and SAF hits players with boots. It happens. Doesn't affect their ability to do a good job though.

big difference from sticking the head on a player at the side of the park to losing your temper in the dressing room with your own players after a poor performance. Plus SAF didn't mean it!

Not so sure he's that good a manager either, football style is boring with long balls to back post every in-direct free kick

his stats although they only tell part of the story don't impress that much. 38% win record with Newcastle in premiership.

Is not that bad. The hardest league in the world with the most amount of the worlds big clubs in one league. The style is effective, whatever it is, it works. Pardew is a good manager imo. I like him.
