Derek Llambias: Undesirable Connections and an Uncertain Future

Recommended Posts

Another year,.... another AGM,.... another NOMAD,.... more New Directors,..... more Pay-Offs,.... more court cases,.... more business reviews,.... another Corporate Soap Opera..........

and another CEO.

When was Derek Llambias first link, involvement or similar with Rangers ?

Was it when he entertained Brian Stockbridge at the Five star Mar Hall last month ?....Obviously not, but Stockbridge features again a little later.

Was it when he came up to Ibrox in early 2013, to help Charles Green sell the idea of renaming the stadium to the Rangers fans at Ibrox ?..... (He didn't mention that his boss had already agreed a deal for a one pound coin)..... maybe it was, maybe it was prior to that when Ashely was first dealing with Charles Green in his initial consortium ?

There is one curious event that took place back in the end of 2012 that some of you may already know about. The CRO did some excellent work on it.

A little background

The Mike Ashely spin doctor is named Keith Bishop and his firm is called Keith Bishop Associates (KBA). On their webpage, they name Rangers as a client.

http://www.kbapr.com/our-clients/sports/

Derek Llambias was a director of Keith Bishop Public Relations Limited, apparently from early 2012 until not long before he became a non-executive director at RIFC on the 3rd of November this year.

On the regulatory notice it listed KBPR as a "past directorship and other positions" http://rangers.g3dhosting.com/regula...ws_article/411

Adam Llambias, son of CEO Derek , also works or worked for Keith Bishop Associates.

Many Newcastle United fans believe Bishop got the Newcastle work through Llambias. In PR ranking, he's not top tier and they wonder why Ashely sticks with him and that Bishop makes a hash of the Newcastle PR.

Now we come to the curious........An invoice dated 13/12/12 was sent to Rangers by Keith Bishop Associates for the first quarter of 2013. They were told by then Finance Director, Brian Stockbridge, that invoices from KBA had to be paid despite no explanation being provided about what work KBA had done for Rangers.

At this point I'll C&P the excellent and informative CRO article

A PR firm which acts for Mike Ashley at Newcastle has invoiced Rangers for fees despite doing no obvious work for the club.

Keith Bishop Associates (KBA) are closely linked to Ashley and list Newcastle Utd as a client on their website. It is understood that Charles Green claimed to Ibrox staff that KBA were retained as part of the Sports Direct retail deal.

The invoice below, along with others over what is believed to have been an initial 16-18 month deal, was received by perplexed Rangers employees who queried it. They were told by then Finance Director, Brian Stockbridge, that invoices from KBA had to be paid despite no explanation being provided about what work KBA had done for Rangers.

After Charles Green left the club, Stockbridge was instructed to travel to London to terminate the contract with Keith Bishop but Stockbridge returned with the contract still in place. Sources have told CRO that Club employees were disgusted that at a time when costs were being cut all over, and people were losing their jobs, these invoices were taking money out of already stretched budgets. KBA were invoicing at a time when Jack Irvine's Mediahouse were also retained by Rangers as expensive PR consultants.

There is no suggestion that Ashley himself received money from the deal but the employment of KBA was linked to the Sports Direct deal which Charles Green agreed with Ashley.

Newspaper reports in recent days have claimed that Ashley was handed the naming rights to Ibrox by Charles Green for only £1 and it also now appears that Ashley has full control of all of Rangers Retail operations after the club shops were absorbed by Sports Direct. It appears unlikely that the deal with Sports Direct will net the club nearly as much as the previous retail deal with JJB, which was also heavily criticised as being undervalued.

Rangers fans are likely to be further concerned that this PR firm linked to Ashley could have received payments in the region of £10,000 a month despite most people at Ibrox having no idea what, if anything, they did for club. It is not clear if KBA are still receiving money from the club or if the contract has now run its course.

.

Stockbridge, Green, Ashely and Llambias seem to have been 'partners' in a fair few things along the way and so far I'm not seeing anything beneficial to Rangers.

How many other "invoices" simply "must be paid"?

Honestly the serious fraud office will have to unravel this mess.

Well if you think about the month the invoice was dated, around 22M came into the club from the IPO of shares.

That seemed to go very quickly and without much to show for it, so you'd imagine a pile of invoices may be similar or 'beefed up'.

The financial advice for the IPO for a start.

Everywhere we look there is trouble. Those still holding out hope re King have the news linked to below to concern themselves with, too. I imagine it would mean many a year of legal wrangling if it progresses:

The Llambias connection is with Ashley and that's it.

As for the authorisation of invoices, that happens. I authorise invoices and keep the reason confidential on occasions. That in itself doesn't prove anything.

Llambias is a longterm extension of Ashely and his business.

That invoice stinks,.......... whether there be proof or not.

Look at MO

Look at who is involved

Todays buzzword "Legacy issues"

"Where has all the Money Gone"

Green&Co has track record of creating Legacy Issues with Ashely&Co

The invoice probably does stink, mate, but more from the fact that Stockbridge is involved than the fact that an explanation wasn't given to a more junior member of staff.

I obviously agree regards Stockbridge.

I think the fact an explanation wasn't given was probably just par for the course but in this particular case, there was an absence of work or presence of 'Keith Bishop Associates' and we continued to get fed by the Jack Irvine show. eg. see regulatory notices, KBA never appear.

It also involved a party with close ties to receivers of 'onerous contracts' from the beginning.

It stinks and the smell remains.
