An excellent statement from the RST.

Today, I read a piece in the middle pages of the Herald by their Chief Political Correspondent, Robbie Dinwoodie. He is the latest useful idiot to be utilised by the usual Yahoo suspects. Ra Bhoy in Corduroy must be considered hors de combat? Anyways, Robbie is a self confessed season ticket holder at Tynecastle; or as he puts it, "often referred to as the diet h-u-ns". He is concerned, the full fat variety(ie us) are lost souls, in a constant state of angst, and ready to boil over. He states, we attacked Hearts supporters and their buses at Ibrox a fortnight past, and Sunday at Hampden will be too much to bear.

Oh, and we would find equilibrium if we ape those perfect maroon role models, 'the Foundation of Hearts'.

It's lazy journalism without reference(I believe the combination of both RF/BR outnumbers the maroon effort); however, Robbie is clearly setting the ground and situation. There will be trouble and it will all be our fault. Next week, Robbie will tell what is left of the Herald readership, that there is a £450million hole in the Scottish NHS budget, and it's all our fault.

Did he see fit to pass comment on any of the violence, support for terrorism and sectarian bigotry that actually takes place regularly at tynecastle when the scum visit?

An excellent statement from the Trust.

I think I've missed such comment in recent years but I think Chris should bring back some quality statements going forward. Really nails the true bigots here.

Are we now seeing the benefit of leadership change by the RST and how much the old leadership was holding them back?

I think this is a time to focus and look forward, playing the ball from where it is currently situated.

The RST are presently very active, aware and seem to be providing leadership at an important juncture.

"We urge Rangers fans to stay safe, behave in a way which can make us all proud of our club and enjoy their day."

Fantastic! I've been waiting years for us to get to grips with the way we sometimes let ourselves down. Well done, RST!!!

Very good statement from RST.

The reality is every football club has it's nutjob element hell bent on causing trouble, looking for it in fact, that will never change. Police Scotland have the hardest job right now in how we keep those nutjobs contained. An impossible task.

Prepare for Glasgow letting itself down on Sunday. The Press will have a field day.

Aye, but only lat week there were dawn raids on fans in Aberdeen and Dundee following one of their matches earlier in the season. I've no time for nutjobs in blue - God knows, I bored enough people moaning about it - but it gets on my nerves that only one game and, at that, only one side which is constantly hauled up.

Anyone hear Spence talking about the arrests in Dundee? Anyone?

The Rangers Supporters Trust wishes to express its concern at what we consider to be a clear attempt by some online elements of the Celtic support to incite trouble ahead of an Old Firm game which already has the potential to be a powder keg fixture.

I've not seen the advert but I can guess the content. I wouldn't imagine this is an effort to incite trouble; merely to get their opinion across as they believe (as every football supporter in Scotland believes about their own club) that the media is biased against them and their views.

We, along with the vast majority of the Rangers support, noted with some amusement the recent advert taken out by Celtic supporters in a once respected Sunday newspaper. However, what has followed makes us considerably more uneasy. There is now no question that a hardcore element of the Celtic support are not content with the troubles which have plagued our club over the past few years. For them, Rangers Football Club, and by extension its fans, must cease to exist.

This will be true. Not via murder and violence though.

Whether this stems from an inferiority complex amongst part of a generation who had to live through Nine-In-A Row, or whether it is down to a more ingrained bigotry, a fierce football rivalry is not sufficient for these people. We are extremely concerned that the rhetoric and hatred spewed out by the likes of Phil MacGiollabhain, Angela Haggerty, Paul Brennan’s CQN website and others, is a deliberate attempt to try to stoke sectarian fires and incite violence at the upcoming fixture.

This part should make a distinction between articles, and the forum areas. As a reader of virtually every football blog in Scotland, the lead articles are hardly trying to incite violence. Phil Four names' blog is particularly scathing, but not inciting violence per se. It's only a daft wee blog. If anyone assaults anyone after reading it (from any side) then it's obvious they need psychiatric help and a prison sentence. As for these sites' forums, Jambos Kickback or any Aberdeen one will also have the same anti rangers narrative. If you have read any football forums you will read some horrible opinions and terms, even on the haven from madness that is Gersnet.

One need only view the reaction of some Celtic fans to the recent blog by MacGiollabhain entitled “The ****** Blood Festival” to see how these people operate. MacGiollabhain himself has never challenged the assertion that he is “tarred with a sickening sectarian brush” and he has willing servants in Miss Haggerty, CQN and several other online Celtic sites. We urge all sane Celtic fans to ignore their bile.

The vast majority of scottish football fans are completely sane and do, thank God.

We hope the upcoming fixture will be fiercely contested. We hope, despite being clear underdogs, that Rangers will win. We also hope that fans of both teams will be able to travel to and watch the match safely. We hope that Police Scotland, as well as policing the day effectively, will take careful note of those who continue to try to incite violence at the upcoming fixture. It would be an odd legal system that arrested people for singing songs but ignored hate speech and incitement of violence.

Should the worst happen, we hope the full force of the law will be brought to bear not only on the perpetrators of any trouble but also those who encourage it online.

Maybe RST should provide evidence of this 'incitement to violence.' I'm just not seeing it from the authors of any blog on any side. It creates a difficult situation for bloggers, who would have to man their forums 24/7, or delay posts, thereby spoiling debate and spontaneity. I'd hate to see blogging culture going backwards. I mean, we might actually have to start buying the daily record again otherwise. Bottom line is that IP addresses exist, and anyone going overboard can be caught. (unless of course IP hiding is being used via an external company). maybe blogs could refuse membership to such addresses.

Rangers and our fans have many challenges to face in the months and years ahead. Challenges which are considerably more important to our long term future than this upcoming Old Firm game. We urge Rangers fans to stay safe, behave in a way which can make us all proud of our club and enjoy their day."

Here here.

You can tell an old firm game is approaching - the forums and fan's groups are becoming demented. My advice - chill out; It does't have to be all Klu Klux Klan, nappy rippers. BJK, Nacho Novo we know where you live. [Today Aberdeen and UTD played a high stakes game without a peep of trouble./B] I think the RST could have a done a little better with their statement IMHO.
