Dave King hails Rangers fans as they get set to hand six per cent share backing in bid to bin the board

THE man who would be Ibrox King delighted with supporters as they gather even more support in their crusade against club bosses.

RANGERS fan groups are on course to deliver more than six per cent of club stock in support of the move to bin the board.

The Rangers Supporters Trust have announced Ibrox shareholders have proxied almost 1.5 million votes to them to back the bid by Dave King to rout the current incumbents.

The RST now have control of 3.25 per cent of club stock heading into the general meeting at Ibrox on March 6, aimed at overthrowing David Somers, Barry Leach, Derek Llambias and James Easdale.

They expect that figure to rise to more than four per cent which, allied to almost two per cent controlled by fellow fan group Rangers First, will hand vital backing to King’s plans to place himself, Paul Murray and John Gilligan in control of the club.

King, Murray and Gilligan have given a vote of thanks to the fan groups as they prepare to back their bid to usher in a new era for the troubled club.

In a statement, they said: “We would like to thank the Rangers Supporters Trust and Rangers First for their excellent work towards the board room changes necessary. They have performed a remarkable service for their club and are to be commended.

“RST have an astonishing 3.25 per cent of shares and proxies while RF have also gathered a significant number of shares. Their total will be announced shortly but together these two groups deserve to be recognised.

“Both groups have released the results of surveys conducted with their members and the overwhelming majority have backed our resolutions.

“We thank all fans who have taken the time to buy shares, fill out proxy cards and back our resolutions. Supporters are the lifeblood of Rangers Football Club and they should never be taken for granted. They have our thanks.”

RST spokesman Chris Graham welcomed the backing from fans to his organisation and said: “This is a hugely significant step by fan shareholders. They have entrusted the Trust with what could prove to be a decisive portion of the vote in this EGM.

“Whilst still increasing our membership steadily, our focus in the past few weeks has been on galvanising the existing shareholders to vote for all the resolutions at the EGM.

“This announcement shows how successful that campaign has been. We would encourage fans to continue to proxy their votes and also join the RST and contribute to our Buy Rangers share purchase scheme.

“Proxy votes are still coming in to us daily by post and we are holding another event at the Kirkintilloch Rangers Supporters Club on Sunday at 2pm for those who want to hand their proxies in personally or learn more about the RST.

“The fans have once again stepped up when their club needed them but we cannot rest on our laurels. We would encourage people not to attend the EGM despite it being moved back to Glasgow. Fans should proxy their vote to arrive with us on or before Thursday February 26 and ensure their vote is counted.

“It is clear this board will not go without a fight. They will try any trick they can at the EGM to get the meeting adjourned. Fans can ensure that any such move fails by getting their vote in now.”

The RST also claim the Rangers board have hired the services of Boudicca Proxy Ltd, a firm who canvass and lobby shareholders ahead of company meetings.

Graham added: “This is yet another unnecessary cost to the club and it would appear the board are intent on burning through as much of Mike Ashley’s latest loan as they can prior to the EGM.

“It is also clear they still hope to influence people - particularly those holding their shares in broker nominee accounts - to vote for the discredited Llambias, Leach, Easdale and Somers.

“If fans hold shares through brokers we would urge them to make contact with them to ensure they vote the way they want and not the way the board and their lobbyists want.”

Meanwhile, fans who have already proxied votes but wish to attend the general meeting are being advised to turn up at Ibrox on March 6 with their shareholder certificate and a form of identification to secure entry to the stadium.

However, they are being urged not to attempt to register to vote as their nominees have already acted on their behalf.

Graham added: “Our party line remains that fans don’t attend as they meeting will only last 10 minutes - if it even goes ahead as the result may be known a couple of days in advance.”

I doubt very much if his EGM will go ahead. The Easdales & Somers must surely realise their time is up and hey have to go.

That's what I am thinking.

However a breaking story on FF surrounds a company calling shareholders and canvassing votes in favour of the current board. It appears they may be doing this illegaly - in order to postpone the meeting:

AGM GUIDE TO MOTIONS AND PROXY VOTING

- Any attempt to canvass for proxy votes will render the vote inadmissible.

"Supporters are the lifeblood of Rangers Football Club and they should never be taken for granted. They have our thanks - except for RangerRab", added King. "He will get what's coming to him - I know where he lives."

to stoop to something as low as this, the must be hiding something big that will be uncovered when they leave.
