Forget it. No other country or different sport requires that a referee explain himself for every call in every game.

The referee made a call, live with it. This is just a guise to put the referee on trial. Should a referee misspeak one word in any explanation you can be sure that the CFC PR machine would go into overdrive.

Bloody arrogance.

They've risen from bullies in the school yard to the bullies in the Scottish game. How people actually managed to vote Lawwell onto the SFA board is utterly beyond me, or just proves that he held enough power to make it happen. There simply should not be anyone linked to a club in a position of authority, as conflict of interest is screaming at you like a banshee.

The end product is there for all to see. Sutton can call the assistant ref an idiot on national tv, here he is giving it full throttle at the Pars, years after it happened. Let's not forget that they also horsed a team away that day ... and probably would have done the same to the Pars if roles had been reversed. And lets also remember the hate campaign against the opposition's goalie (wasn't it ex-Yahoo Rab Douglas?) because he did a professional job against his ex-friends? What the really sad thing is here ... they actually believe in what they are saying. "Mental" does not describe it any longer. These people have serious issues and delusions of grandeur. The sooner the rest of the Scottish game raises to this kind of bullying and behaviour the better. I for one cannot fathom how the rest of the game just looks on ... and I mean club officials and those within authorities, not supporters.

Does Sutton just forget that they beat Kilmarnock - was it 5-1 IIRC - were they weak and puny too. Hated Sutton as a player and he's not gone up in my estimations since :wanker:

Up there next to Lennon, he's one of my most unliked people. 12 years later man, give it a rest.

4 maybe. They missed at least one penalty. Sutton knows they bottled it but can't admit it.

Chris Sutton: Jimmy Calderwood will NEVER get an apology from me.. only he will know why his Pars team put in such a weak display to hand Rangers the title.

RECORD SPORT columnist responds after ex-Dunfermline boss says pundit still hasn't apologised to the East End Park club for claiming they lay down to Ibrox side in 2003.

JIMMY CALDERWOOD wants an apology from me. I’m afraid he is going to be disappointed because it’s not going to happen.

I must admit I was surprised when I read in yesterday’s Record Sport his demands for me to say sorry for insulting his Dunfermline side in 2003.

The first thing that struck me was why had it taken so long for him to come out and say this?

Perhaps he has a bit too much time on his hands these days and hasn’t got anything better to do but I found it laughable.

To dredge it up after 12 years is pathetic.

When I accused
Dunfermline of lying down to Rangers I said it from the heart in the heat of the moment.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I clearly touched a nerve questioning fellow
footballers’ integrity.

I was angry, felt cheated and my blood was boiling. It was my opinion at that time in the aftermath of a weak and puny performance by Jimmy’s team.

Why they performed so badly, only Jimmy knows.

I didn’t stand there after the game thinking I was out on my own. I was furious because of the way the results went but felt I was just reflecting what tens of thousands of Celtic fans were thinking at that time, as well as the view of a lot of my team-mates.

It might not have been the correct thing to do but I paid the price for it. I was handed a six-game ban, reduced to five on appeal, and served my time.

I am certainly not going to go back and apologise for it.

As far as I am concerned it’s water under the bridge and best left alone but Jimmy felt the need to bring it back up.

I understand why he might have been unhappy at the time. He might have felt I questioned his integrity but if he had such strong feelings about it he should have called me or spoke to me back then.

I came up against his sides numerous times after that game, when he was with Dunfermline and Aberdeen, and nothing was said. Not a word. That’s why I find it strange he’s getting all riled up now. What’s the point?

I don’t really know Jimmy but don’t have a problem with him. I genuinely don’t want to get into a war of words with him. I respect the jobs he’s done as a manager over the years and he’s obviously a passionate guy.

That’s fair enough but don’t go round digging up the past for no reason.

If I held a grudge against every opponent that had wound me up over the years I would barely have time for anything else in my life. There were plenty of players who I absolutely hated on the pitch.

I couldn’t stand the sight of them and it gave me no greater pleasure than beating them and yet when I meet them now we have a laugh and a joke together.

That’s football. All’s fair in love and war. You can’t let these things fester inside you for years.

I lost two league titles on the final day of the season and don’t forget my career was ended by a stray elbow.

Those things hurt but I don’t let them keep me awake at night.

Jimmy was a player as well as a manager and knows the game. I’ll bet he’s said a few things he might look back on and think he perhaps shouldn’t have come out with.

We have all done things we are not proud of in and out of the game.

Does he think we should all apologise for everything we’ve said or done that might have put a few people’s noses out of joint over the years?

Jimmy’s rant in Record Sport was triggered by my verdict on the Josh Meekings shambles. I gave my opinion and stand by every word.

He said he couldn’t believe what I was hinting at. I wasn’t hinting at anything. I was giving my opinion.

Is Jimmy questioning my integrity now? Maybe I should demand an apology.

There are grey areas and debatable incidents in every game, yes, but there are levels of incompetence and this one was the worst I have ever seen.

Jimmy brought up Bobo Balde’s handball in the 2004 Cup Final. Stuart Dougal might have got that wrong but at least it was debatable. The Meekings one could win a World Cup for incompetence.

It was a disgraceful
refereeing decision in the first place and the SFA made it even worse by trying to ban Meekings for the final.

You shouldn’t be able to backtrack like that, even though the SFA seem to think they can.

I’m glad Meekings can play in the Scottish Cup Final. I am 100 per cent sure there is no one at Celtic who wanted him to miss that game. There’s no one in Scotland, the UK or the rest of the world of football who would have wanted to see him suspended.

The decision to try to ban him didn’t make Celtic’s
situation any better. It didn’t change the result and if anything it was cruel on the player. He was being punished for the incompetence of the officials. It wasn’t his fault they missed it.

He did it on the spur of he moment in the best interests of his team.

But it was utterly
ridiculous to punish him retrospectively.

It was a bitterly
disappointing day for Celtic, who were right to feel outraged, but they have to forget it and put it behind them.

Same goes for Jimmy. For him to say I should take responsibility for my words back in 2003 is a bit rich given his side’s performance that day. Jimmy needs to grow up and get over it.

They beat Killie 4-0 that day, away from home. No whisper about that. I think if we look at the goals from the Pars-thrashing, we can clearly see that it was classy stuff from us and hardly the pars giving up

[video=youtube;Gg-6aAVn0oo]

Not that this would change the opinion of this bitter and classless chap one bit. It just shows him up for what he is.

EDIT ... ha, missed that it was already up there. But one never should leave out an opportunity to see this again! :D
