[FT] Celtic 5 - 2 Rangers (Youth Cup Final 2015)

Recommended Posts

This is like watching the first team.

Goalkeeper won't command his area. Shaky defence is giving everyone the jitters. Midfield is ineffective in that it doesn't know whether to attack or stay home and help the defence. Lone striker running around on his own.

Lets's hope they can turn this around in the second half.

p.s. the second C1888c goal was a beauty.

Very true. Ian Durrant maybe gives them a good laugh and a joke but as far as playing football he should be the last of the three amigos to go.

To lose in that manner was a poor show all round. The team selection and formation of the players completely baffled me, specifically with Aird playing in central midfield where he had very little impact on the game at all because most of the game just passed him by and I'm equally unconvinced by some of the other players on that showing.

Fair play to Celtic because they outclassed us in this one and well and truly deserved their win, but a lot of questions need asked about that tonight from our point of view. Our midfielders and defenders didn't help much, but I'd be asking some questions about Liam Kelly's performance in goal which ended up being almost as shambolic as the laughable performance of their keeper in the first half.

Rangers Youth ‏@RFC_Youth

RANGERS: Kelly, Sinnamon, Halkett, Gasparotto, McCrorie, Aird, Mbabu, Mills, Walsh, Ramsay, Hardie

SUBS: McCrorie, Burrows, Stones, Dykes, Roberts

#Rangers U20 will line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation as they prepare to take on Celtic in the Youth Cup final:

'1 - Celtic kick us off and we're underway at Hampden!

'2 - Ball into the right channel bouncing over the Celtic defence for Walsh - his cross on the half volley to the back post cleared. 0:0

'7 - Aird winning the ball for the Gers and giving the ball to Ramsay who shot from distance - his effort curling just over the bar. 0:0

'12 - Good chasing into the corner by Hardie almost paying off as he wins the ball & cuts inside for Walsh, but cleared for a corner.

'13 - The Gers almost in after Hart in goal for Celtic misscontrols a backpass, but the Light Blues can't capitalise and Celtic clear.

'14 - Corner from the right hand side by Ramsay into the box falling for Gasparotto, but he couldn't get a shot away inside a crowded area.

'18 - Corner from the right curled into the danger area by Ramsay and Mbabu up with a header, but it was over the bar. It's still 0:0.

'20 - GOAL: Celtic open the scoring through Wardrop. Corner from the right falling to the defender who stabbed it home from close range.

'21 - GOAL: It's all square at Hampden! Ball over the top chested back goalward, but the keeper was wrong-footed and it crept in. 1:

'27 - GOAL: Nesbitt makes it 2:1 to Celtic. Attacking through a group of Gers defenders from the right and rocketing a shot into the corner.

'32 - Hardie working hard in the right channel again and cutting back to Sinnamon - his cross hit on the volley by Mills - wide of goal.

'33 - GOAL: Celtic go 3:1 in front at Hampden. Ball from wide into the box and Donnelly brought it down then poked it beyond Kelly.

'40 - YELLOW: McMullan booked for simulation inside the #Rangers box. Celtic with a 3:1 lead at Hampden.

'42 - Ramsay quick to capitalise on a loose pass at the back by Celtic - attempting a half volley from distance but well held by Hart.

HT: #Rangers U20 1:3 Celtic U20 - Celtic ahead at Hampden by two goals - it's going to be a big second 45 minutes for the Gers!

'45 - The second half is underway at Hampden and the Gers will need to come back from two goals down to retain the trophy.

There's a double change for #Rangers by Ian Durrant for the second half. Dykes and Burrows on to replace Gasparotto and McCrorie.

Correction: Mbabu has came off as has McCrorie. Dykes and Burrows coming on.

'53 - Half chance for Celtic attacking into the #Rangers box from the left through McMullan, but it cannons off a defender to Kelly.

'54 - Excellent chance for Celtic not taken as Donnelly crossed to the back post for Lindsay, but he couldn't get on the end of it.

'66 - YELLOW: Dylan Dykes is booked for pulling back McMullan as he tried to attack down the #Rangers left. Still 3:1 Celtic.

'71 - SUB: Ian Durrant making his third change of the match, with Darren Ramsay coming off for Scott Roberts.

'72 - GOAL: Celtic make it 4:1 at Hampden. Aidan Nesbitt at the back post and shooting high into the net beyond Kelly in goal. 4:1 Celtic.

'74 - GOAL: It's 5:1 to Celtic as Aidan Nesbitt scores from the penalty spot to grab his hat-trick.

'78 - SUB: Fiacre Kelleher comes on to replace Sam Wardrop at Hampden. Celtic leading 5:1.

'83 - SUB: Calvin Miller comes on to replace Kieran Tierney for the closing stages of the game at Hampden.

'86 - Ryan Hardie attacking into the box from the right shooting low but gathered by Hart in goal.

'88 - GOAL: Dylan Dykes scores for #Rangers from close range to make it 5:2 to Celtic at Hampden in the closing stages.

FT: #Rangers U20 2:5 Celtic U20 - Disappointment for Ian Durrant's young side as Celtic lift the Youth Cup at Hampden.

I was going to write that this game might be the reason why some of our youngsters were not in the squad yesterday. By the sound and looks of it, it might not be the only reason. Then again, it's an Old Firm Cup Final and if you aren't up for that, stuff like tonight can and will happen. It will need someone like elfideldo to give us a real impression about the current state of the u20s.

On a sidenote, I was going to write that the only Rangers team able to win an Old Firm game these days was the Ladies's side. I bit my tongue after Sunday's game, omens and all. Alas, things in football can change rather quickly.

Quite a disappointing result given the relative strength and experience of the team we put out.

And we get people on here saying put these youngsters in our first team............................

I've been asking for years what Durrant brings to Rangers Football Club.

I still see nothing of benefit that he brings. On the coaching side he has always been useless. Waste of a wage.

It's called 'Jobs for the Boys'. Rangers is & always has been rife with this. If you're a 'Rangers man' then you get the job regardless of whether there's someone better. Classic example was McCoist becoming Rangers manager. No one would seriously suggest he was best candidate would they?

Agreed mate.

And Durrant has to be part of the summer clearout.
