He had injuries which held him back a bit. But physically the guy is fitter than a butcher's dog. The fact that Leeds, Sheffield Wed and others would have loved his signature speaks volumes. Managers that he has played for constantly talk of the win ratio when he is in the side. He will be a smashing player for us. Given last season's injury problems and his age, not to mention the fact that most midfielders rarely play on much beyond 34/35, I doubt we can really expect him to still be playing regularly in the SPL (presuming we go up). I imagine the thinking is Warburton has come into a side in a low league, we need to hit the ground running and he doesn't have much money to spend. He won't know the players that well individually, aside from knowing they are generally very poor, and so he will have looked to bring an experienced head in for a season. We're not in a position to be signing anyone doing that well in the Championship, so he has brought in a player he knows reaching the end of his career. Someone he can trust. I would imagine in a year someone long term will get it, possibly Wilson. I think you just summed up what most of us thought when we first heard about him at the weekend. Just what we need for the short term to get the team gelled. Because of the car crash that has been the last three years unfortunately MW is starting from scratch oh yes in the championship. We are where we are - the same as the giant that is Leeds Utd. You buy winners on short term deals sometimes to pass good habits on to young players and to get you up to the next rung in the ladder. Have you ever played at a half decent level and stood in the tunnel or walked out on to the park as a youngster when the opposition 'old heads' are threatening to 'have you' and all you have round about you are other kids? It is a giant relief and makes you feel 10 feet tall when one of the older guys in your side, who has been around the block, says "you have to come through me first arsehole". It makes you feel liberated knowing you have someone to cover your back. 33, 34, 35? I dont give a shit.
