Hibs have knocked back a bid from Rangers to lure prize asset Scott Allan to Ibrox, the Glasgow club’s offer so low it took the Easter Road board only seconds to deliver a resounding “No”.

And, the Evening News understands, that will continue to be their position, even although they expect their Championship rivals to return with at least one more effort to tempt them to sell the midfielder.

Although an approach from Rangers had been predicted, the News believes it wasn’t until the close of play last night that it finally came in the form of an email, barely three days before the clubs open the season as they meet in the first round of the Petrofac Training Cup.

However, the nature of the offer was such it was said to have made chief executive Leeann Dempster and her fellow directors’ decision to turn it down very easy to make.

Speculation surrounding the 23-year-old’s future has been rife all summer, with Celtic and Dundee United, Allan’s first club, also credited with an interest in last season’s Championship player of the year.

Allan has enjoyed a new lease of life since making a surprise return to Scotland last summer, signing a two year deal with Hibs following a big money move down south, his switch to West Brom turning sour.

Naturally, his form has attracted much attention, but throughout Allan himself has insisted he’s happy in Edinburgh, enjoying a revitalised career under Hibs head coach Alan Stubbs, while adamant he is intent on seeing out the final year of his contract by helping to guide the Capital side back to the Premiership.

United came in with an offer in the region of £250,000 during the January transfer window in a bid to take Allan back to Tannadice following the sales of Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong to Celtic, a move which was rebuffed out of hand by Hibs, who remain as equally determined today to ensure he continues to wear a green-and-white shirt.

Only a matter of time now. SA wants to sign for Rangers & hibz know that. How long can they keep an unhappy player?

He only has one year on his contract so they have to accept something before the end of next month before he's free to speak to ther clubs in january
