Rangers have made a third bid for Hibernian midfielder Scott Allan of around £300,000, Sky sources understand.

Hibs have refused to sell the 23-year-old, despite Allan handing in a transfer request after Gers’ opening two offers of £175,000 and £225,000 were rejected by the Edinburgh club.

Allan was left on the bench when the two sides met in the Petrofac Training Cup last month, although he did come on in the latter stages of the 6-2 defeat for Alan Stubbs’ side.

The Ibrox club have been long-time admirers of Allan and he was linked with a move there last summer before ending up at Easter Road instead.

By handing in his transfer request, Allan has made his desire to transfer along the M8 to Glasgow and join the club he grew up supporting clear.

He has received a mixed reception from Hibs fans since, with some booing him and other applauding him when he came on in the League Cup against Montrose at the weekend.

By putting in a third bid, the club has at least kept faith with the lad after he handed in his transfer request.

I think this was the least we could do.

time to move on now.....look elsewhere

Scott Allan needs to wait for next year....maybe January

From what we have seen thus far, Halliday plays quite good in Allan's position. Likewise, Thompson is there as cover and he looked in the mood too. While it would be good to have Allan with us, at this moment and time it does not seem that there is dire need.

Hibs will not sell him to us for that kind of money.

If they think he is the man who will make the difference between going up or not, then it would be really bad business because the difference between finishing 1st or 2nd in the Championship and even 12th in the SPL if they went up is about £400,000 - £470,000 in prize money alone never mind extra at the gate including 2 home derbies with Hearts and if they were to go up and finish say 6th in the SPL then the difference is around £720,000 - £780,000.

I don't think we need him right now either and he's on a free next summer isn't he?

Shiels also had a more than respectable game last Sunday, Walsh can't get a game and IMO McKay and Templeton are both much better in the no.10 role than on the wing though they're doing decent jobs right now.

I don't think it's a good idea to keep coming back with higher and higher bids - it just says to clubs that they should keep rejecting bids until the window almost closes to get the best deal. If we're putting in more than 3 bids then it could be inferred that our initial bids were a bit insulting. That doesn't sound like good business.

For me the third bid should be the absolute final offer and probably a bit more than we really value the player at, but we've decided to take a gamble that there could be extra potential. It should therefore also be a rarity.
