Recommended Posts

From elsewhere another great piece of work from The Founders Trail/Gallant Pioneers guys

Over the last few years we've been searching the cemeteries of Glasgow for the final resting places of those men who played such a vital role in not only forming our Club but the subsequent years thereafter.

Restoration work and the placing of memorials has already been carried out on the resting places of:

Peter and James McNeil, and Mr. Struth at Craigton.

Moses McNeil at Rosneath and William Dunlop at Cathcart.

Just recently we managed to locate the resting place of the final member of the 1877 Scottish Cup Final team.

There are many others sites around Glasgow which are sadly in various states of disrepair.

On Tuesday 28th July myself along with fellow supporter David Calderwood, who was responsible for the restoration and memorial plaque for Moses McNeil at Rosneath, toured the cemeteries and photographed then logged each individual resting place.

Stone work needs done on some, stones re-erected on others and some have no stone at all.

They are as follows.

Craigton Cemetery

Sam Ricketts

James Watt

Sandy Marshall

James McIntyre

James Wilson

Cathcart Cemetery

William Dunlop

William Wilton

James Watson

AB McKenzie

Dugald McKenzie

RS McColl

Hillfoot Cemetery

Tom Vallance

Lambhill Cemetery

George Goudie

George Gillespie

Rutherglen Cemetery

Harry McNeil

East Kilbride Cemetery

David Hill.

A small amount of funds are in place already which was raised via the Sons of Struth work on Mr Struth’s stone and the proceeds from a raffle which we held at the recent RST Family Day.

On Thursday 6th August a meeting was held where a plan of action and fund -raising activities were discussed and formulated.

We are now making an appeal to the Rangers support to get involved with the project by way of donations.

These men from our early years gave us so much that we still enjoy even today that it’s now time to give them a little back in return.

The Founders Project isn’t only about an education process it’s about putting everything in place for this and future generations to enjoy.

Every Rangers supporter can now contribute to The Restoration of Rangers Graves Project.

Regular updates on progress will be posted on these pages.
