Darren McGregor joins Hibs - also Zaliukas released

You've got to respect McGregor if he has left and not taken a pay-off.

Just wants to play rather than line his pockets doing nothing. Pity there aren't more like him.

He might be a guy with morals, knowing what he made from his stint with Rangers more than justified what he contributed (including training)

'tis a common word round our way

as for in comparison to people who were worse than him then words like awful and woeful were well worn all through last season, don't really see the controversy.

Although last year the team was very poor he was voted player of the year for the club and in that sense to say he was rank might be considered an exaggeration as we still have Bell, Templeton, Shiels, Law (and Aird?) playing for us.

aye mutual consent means he gets paid off to the end of his contract,

I doubt it will be paid in full as he will be earning a wage somewhere else but he may have an agreement for a pay-off or Rangers agreeing to fill his wage for any losses.

Law looks a completely different player nowadays though.

Whilst I understand McGregor didn't fit into Warburton's system. McGregor himself probably wanted to play football, I don't like the amount of depth we have if any sort of injury crisis was to happen same upfront, midfield I think we have covered.

That's actually a very good point. The last thing we need is another season where a dozen players practically down tools because they've got very little chance of a new contract.

Much as though that is fair it would have been very unlikely in McGregors case. One of the very few who could hold their head up after last season.

Been quite common for quite a while mate.

'Rank' as you say means 'rotten' it stems from 'The Rank Organisation' founded by industrialist J. Arthur Rank which produced awful British made films during the 30's 40's 50's 60's and 70's.

We used to say (when one dropped one) "You are J Arthur Rank"...this was later whittled down to a simple "You are Rank"

'Rank' predates J Arthur Rank. Usually used to refer to a rotten on bad smell ('the air was rank with the smell of the Celtic')but also to something bad ('that is rank disobedience'). However 'having a J Arthur' was once a popular piece of Cockney rhyming slang for onanism (aka 'a Barclays').

More importantly, I don't think McGregor was rank. He did a solid job in a team that seemed to be giving up around him, mostly at right back which wasn't his preferred position. He had his limitations and understand that MW is after somethign different in his defenders but, as far as last season's team goes,McGregor was one of the least of our problems.

While W&W like to play with a "lean" squad, you do wonder though whether we'll have enough cover at the back - should Zaliukas leave as well. In central defence, we would be left with Kiernan, Wilson and Ball, plus one or the other youngster ...
