Transfer Deadline Day: Michael O'Halloran signs until 2020

Recommended Posts

Yesterday's perceived wisdom on BBC Radio Scotland reference O'Halloran, by the usual suspects.

Cosgrove believes Rangers have unsettled the player and St Johnstone should table a bid of £50,000 for Waghorn. Remember, Jum Spence proclaimed both Rangers bids, "a joke". Further, Cosgrove is of the opinion that O'Halloran will continue his career down south.

During the Dundee United/Killie game, Allan Preston on hearing Saints equaliser at ra Stydome and O'Halloran's involvement, was more strident, "right, Saints must tell Rangers, you have until noon Monday to make your last bid. Saints and Tommy have an extremely important game next week against Hibs and they need to prepare without constant unsettling interference from Rangers". Quite a statement from Tannadice on events elsewhere. Fingers have been pointed, Rangers are het again.

The thing is, the leaks on both bids, timings and levels have emanated from St Johnstone. Both broadcast and print media are complaining loudly that Warburton continues to utilise the word 'respect' and will NOT talk about any player until he has signed for Rangers. Thus, Saints have unsettled their own player.

Facts and degrees of comfort being exhibited by the usual suspects?

One thing that does concern me about O'Halloran - all the talk seems to be about his 'blistering pace'. When will he get to use that with us? 90% of the time we are up against a defensive wall with no room in behind. Has he got more than that in his locker?

I think O'Halloran may be signed more with next season in mind when we're hopefully in the Premiership

IF we were to sign MOH in the coming day or two is he eligible to play for up in the Cup game against Killie or does he have to sit out till the next round??

And David Weir has made noise that we will be dipping into the loan market again before the close of the window...

If he has already played in the cup he will be cup-tied.

Cosgrove and Spence can now be described as 'generally confrontational' when expressing their views or thoughts on events that concern Rangers.

Spence is now a freelance in the relative wilderness and to an extent now depends on his soundbites aimed at Rangers to remain in the public eye. The best thing is to ignore him and leave him increasingly to his own patch up in Dundee.

Cosgrove is a different type and talks through the National broadcaster, directly funded by the public.

'Off the Ball' is in the main a light-hearted 'petty and ill informed' programme that pokes fun at various figures and teams in Scottish football and so gives Cosgrove a degree of license. Taking that into consideration you need to consider context but I think it fair to say that over a long period of time that Cosgrove has been consistently negative towards Rangers in a way and sometimes with a tone that is disdainful and verging on hateful.

He has been given good reason to criticise matters at Rangers over the last two decades but for me it is his at times open disdain, confrontational style and something verging on hatred that makes this more difficult to stomach from the national broadcaster.

it's going to be an interesting week ahead that is for sure. Warburton said he was confident of there being players signed before the Morton game and this is going to pass that mark tomorrow. He has also said he likes his dealings done well before the end of the transfer window and we have what a week left?
