Provo criticises Rangers.

Recommended Posts

"Celtic legend David Provan has criticised Rangers in The Scottish Sun for selling Charlie Adam and Ross McCormack.

Midfielder Adam, now on the books of Premier League side Stoke City, joined Blackpool from Rangers in 2009.

Fulham’s McCormack, who can play as a striker or as a winger, left the Gers for Motherwell in 2006.

Provan, who played for Celtic in the 1970s and 1980s, has criticised Rangers for selling the two England-based players “for buttons”.

“Came across Charlie Adam at Stoke last weekend,” the former Scotland international winger wrote in The Scottish Sun. “He is struggling to get into Mark Hughes’ side right now, but Stoke’s £4million capture of the then Liverpool midfielder took Adam’s transfer fees north of £10m.

“Elsewhere Middlesbrough have had an £8m offer for Ross McCormack turned down but will up their bid. With 17 goals already this season McCormack’s £11m switch from Leeds has proved good business for Fulham. Makes you wonder why Rangers allowed both Murray Park graduates to leave for buttons.”

Here's an idea - why not stick to talking garbage about something you know about ? Neither were good enough imo. That's why they went.

fair enough we shouldnt have gave them away so cheaply but at least we brought through talent that others rate so highly. Big pat on the back for rangers academy

'The failure' as such was a not altogether unusual one for Rangers back in the relevant period.

It was that we didn't have a good track record for turning good young players from the Academy into regular and effective first team players. To this you could supplement the 'charge' of not improving many players.

This is hardly exclusive to Rangers and lists could be made for the vast majority of relatively big clubs.

What we currently have is a desperate and often inaccurate media sensing a growing momentum regards Rangers, transfer policy, finance etc and as we go into the last week or so of the window it'll only increase. This particular article goes off on a strange tangent that is not really relevant at this moment in time.

Provan, walker and that clown Sutton shouldn't be anywhere near our games when we're on the telly....

No hint of irony there Boaby eh? Transfer fees in excess of £30m just about combined. Adam credited by some as having scored the best goal & pass ever seen in Premiership. Come off it.

If they were that great while at Rangers, would you not expect clubs other than Motherwell and Blackpool to have signed them?

They have developed after leaving the goldfish bowl of life at Rangers. Good for them (well good for Charlie anyway). They were never good enough

to take an automatic starting place while at the club. Adam got fitter and more mobile.

They got games that they wouldn't have got with us, got played in positions that they wouldn't have played with us and got better. It happens.

If they'd stayed with us their careers would have gone backwards.

Are you seriously saying that either or both together ever was worth anywhere near £30 million given their displays in Rangers jerseys ? Were you at the game caller ?
