[FT] Falkirk 3 - 2 Rangers (Miller 7; McKay 9)

Recommended Posts

Up for work this morning and now that I've calmed down a bit from that last 20 minute drubbing we got last night I still cant understand the substitutions. Falkirk played a high line harassing our midfield right out of the game and forced the defence to turn and chase. They pumped balls up to one on ones on Tav Kiernon and Wilson.

The game actually turned on its head when we took MacKay and Miller off and they spotted Tav was having a nightmare so the put that sub on, sat him on Tav and he proceeded to give him an absolute roasting. The pansy clearances that led to their 3 goals were pretty embarrassing to be honest.

Our defenders are not great on 1 on 1 situations. To be honest I thought Wilson was excellent up until the capitulation.

Methinks Wilson took a knock (back) too. The problem was, that we still had too many folk up front, even after they equalized, with left us as exposed as before. Halliday should have come deeper to support Ball, who probably was caught in the battle feever a bit. Anyway, hindsight is a wonderful thing and the manager will sure analyze any error we made. That said, do keep in mind that this was a game of football and certain things will happen every now and then, with varying degrees of disappointment.

There were parts early on in that match where I watched Rangers play some of the best football I've ever seen us play. It was astounding. I still can't understand the substitutions and have no doubt they contributed to us losing goals. In short we threw away 3 points.

I'm sure I read an article from Brentford fans on MW when he first joined us saying the only system he plays is an attacking one, they said they lost games when they could easily have shut up shop after going in front on get a/the point/s and that I think was their only criticism of him.

Last night we could easily have been 5 in front at half time but we don't have the quality up front, hopefully we do for next season.

We also need our defenders to improve or we need to bring in better quality to stop the stupid mistakes we seem to keep making.

It is frustrating when we are not killing teams off and then sometimes we get punished for it and it will be tougher at a higher level but we are improving all the time, I now know our system under MW won't change and for the first time in years I am really enjoying our style of play but I also know we will get beat from time to time due to our style of play such as we did least night.

I'm guessing he wanted to rest them and the players he brought on have been decent of late. But it clearly didn't work. That said, it wasn't the subs that gave the ball away on the edge of the area or stood watching as their player tapped in an injury time winner. You'd get pelters for that sort of defending in a game of pub football. It was like they'd been getting pissed at half time

Thanks a lot mate but I don't think I personally want to watch anything again. I am too bad a loser for that.

That was the best and worst of games. The first 20-30 minutes were sublime: the running off the ball, the through balls were just terrific. We should have been 3-0 up if the linesman had his contacts in. And then the second-half was poor. We just seemed to stop running. Then a fluky wonder-goal brings them back into it. Our confidence then just fled. Overall, we did it to ourselves. I'm not sure if that's better, because it's something we can work on or not.

However, to say it was all us is doing Falkirk a disservice. I'm too annoyed to look at what they did second-half, but I recall Hippolyte coming on to play wide to make a 4-5-1, shutting off the midfield a little more. I also think they dropped deeper also; the first-half they played quite a high line. We did give it away, but Falkirk did the basic things well. Houston is a very good manager -- would he like a job alongside MW and DW?!

We're all annoyed, but quite frankly we should have won that game -- how many times have we said that? -- which somewhat negates the bad feeling because it's something we've done to ourselves, rather than being out-played by an opponent. It's a bad result but it won't/shouldn't affect the winning of the league. Acknowledge the mistakes, correct them, and move on.

Stunning win by Falkirk , Stubbs will be more gutted than any of us and that thought cheers me up.

Also a valuable lesson learned, that even with a 2 goal lead, it's not over 'til the obese female croons.
