The Summer Transfer Rumour Round-up Thread

For me the jury is still out on tavernier(defensively) Kiernan and Foderingham I wouldn't say they have been a huge success. Tavernier is good going forward and is always a danger but he is a defender foremost and he is pretty weak at that.

Gotomski didn't go well either

BTW, on Garethy McAuley, aged 36, plays admirably for the Ulstermen and scored a goal today ... and will sure play on for West Brom next season. No comparison to Hill, just pointing out that age is not necessarily the only variable when it comes to a player's ability in this day and age.

As did Oduwa. But Gostomski was here as a back up only and sometimes things come to light only after someone is staying for longer than a couple of weeks. Hence, MW's loan and short term deal approach was right.

I quite like the look of McGovern who we are supposed to be linked with. he seems pretty commanding in the box and is a good shot stopper. Playing excellent for NI.

Was impressed with the punch clearance he did late on in the game near the 18 yard line. Couldn't imagine foderingham being that commanding

Former QPR defender Clint Hill is expected in Glasgow today as he closes in on a move to Rangers.

SportTimes the 37-year-old is set to undergo a medical after agreeing a 12-month deal with the Ibrox outfit.

Gers boss Mark Warburton is looking to stiffen his defensive options ahead of the Light Blues return to the Ladbrokes Premiership, and Hill could give his side the dose of experience it lacked at times last season.

Hill, who has also featured for Tranmere, Oldham, Stoke and Crystal Palace during a 19-year career, is a free agent after being released by Loftus Road boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink last month.

The veteran defender's former QPR boss Harry Redknapp reckons he will be a valuable addition to the Ibrox ranks.

"He's in absolutely great shape," said Redknapp. "He trains well, looks after himself and he's a family man. I couldn't speak highly enough of him.

"Rangers would be getting a good player, a character, a leader who wants to win. He's fit as a fiddle and doesn't carry an ounce of excess weight on him. He's a good lad, a tough lad with a good left foot who loves a tackle.

"He's a very good player who would be an excellent signing on a free transfer."

If he completes his switch, Hill will team up with former QPR colleague Joey Barton and could be joined by another former Rs midfielder, with Croatian Niko Kranjcar also reported to be close to agreeing terms with the Glasgow giants.

As well as Barton, Rangers have already signed youngster Jordan Rossiter from Liverpool and Accrington Stanley pair Josh WIndass and Matt Crooks this summer.

It's a good sign that the manager is getting so many of his targets on board so early. Gives him time to tinker and decide on the optimum line up long before a ball is kicked in earnest. We hit the ground running with almost no preparation last season so I hope for a similar start this time round.

Many teams tend to stutter in the opening phases of a campaign while our exemplary first quarter in the Championship eventually proved to be what more or less won it for us when the inevitable bad results did come. If we can do the same again and maybe even top the league early on we may prove difficult to displace.

Exciting times, if Mo Johnston thought the semi final team looked like Barcelona what can the manager squeeze out of this more experienced and talented group. If the rest of Scottish football had any semblance of sanity they would have been hoping for us to win the Scottish cup.

Hibs will be kicked out before the postcards get home while I seriously believe we would have had a chance of making the group stage and getting the country some co-efficiency points.

Odds slashed on Rangers signing 23-year-old Liverpool striker Danny Ings

Could Mark Warburton bring Danny Ings to Ibrox and make him Rangers' marquee signing?

Could Danny Ings make a shock move away from Liverpool to Scottish side Rangers?

According to bookies SkyBet, it is a strong possibility with a market opened overnight on Ings' future, and Rangers considered to be the only club in the running.

While Ings is 1/6 on to stay at Liverpool, odds are as as short as 7/2 on him signing for Rangers.

Ings was signed by Liverpool from Burnley a year ago by Brendan Rodgers, currently the boss of Celtic.

The cost of the deal is yet to be determined via long running tribunal, having left Burnley on a 'free', only for them to be due compensation as he was under 23 and had come through their academy.

Ings made a positive start at Liverpool and looked their most lively striker early on last season with Daniel Sturridge out injured, only to see his season cut short in October by a serious knee injury.

He had netted three goals in eight appearances before his injury, five games of which had been starts.

He had impressed for Burnley the previous season but left after they were relegated.

Ings made his comeback on the last day of the season, playing for the first time under Jurgen Klopp as a substitute for 26 minutes against West Brom.

The link with Rangers is a peculiar one, as Ings is surely determined to be a success at Liverpool, while it is questionable whether the Gers could afford him.

If he did make it to Ibrox he would be a marquee signing and be potentially prolific up front, but short of Jurgen Klopp telling him he is not in his plans, its a deal which is hard to see happening.

He did with ... Waghorn, Tavernier, Kiernan, Holt, Forrester, Ball etc. ... and sent Oduwa away when it did not click. Patience, young padawan ;)

We cannot defend so the addition of this old defender from a higher league will be a bonus.
