It's funny isn't it that in that same article if those were actually his words that he appears to be dismissing the Grigg link.

Warburton has been touted with a move for a posse of strikers, including Will Grigg and Tom Bradshaw, but has dismissed them all.

He said: “We have been linked to so many strikers and that’s good because the real targets have not been mentioned.

“The one we want is one the media haven’t dug up yet, but I have no doubt you will keep on digging.

“It’s not simple sometimes. Clubs want £2million, you are prepared to pay £500,000 and you try to meet somewhere in the middle.

“We might spend money or we might not. The trick is to get the work done under the radar, as Frank McParland has been doing.”

I might be wrong but ... Will Grigg was a name not exactly thrown about in the media thus far? MW himself does not mention him and why the DR throws him in only the DR knows.

... and having read the article now, even the bit about Onyewu is at best conjecture ...

Rangers unlikely to offer a contract to American defender Oguchi Onyewu

HE was caught napping when Battery playmaker Attaulah Guerra crashed home a volley from an acute angle as Gers won 2-1 on Wednesday night.

RANGERS are unlikely to offer a deal to American defender Oguchi Onyewu after his trial stint with the club in South Carolina.

Onyewu, capped 69 times for his country, played 66 minutes of the Light Blues’ pre-season friendly against Charleston Battery on Wednesday nigh t.

Rangers won 2-1, but Onyewu was caught napping when Battery playmaker Attaulah Guerra crashed home a volley from an acute angle after nicking in behind the visitors’ rearguard.

Onyewu, 35, has offers on the table from clubs in the States and Rangers are also keen to explore their defensive options.

Boss Mark Warburton was due to have discussions with Onyewu after the club’s last training session at their Stateside training camp.

Rangers return to Scotland today, but it’s understood Onyewu won’t be part of the travelling party.

Warburton said: “We are looking at that fourth choice centre half and we are looking at the striking position as well and if we get these done we will be okay.”

Warburton has declared their pre-season training camp a success as they prepare to kick off the new campaign at Motherwell next week in the League Cup.

He even shrugged off the 80 minute rain delay to kick-off before their game with Battery, which saw defender Danny Wilson walk off early after picking up an elbow in the face.

He returned to the action after the break and Warburton said: “It was an innocuous challenge and Danny’s tooth went through his lip. He needed some stitches but he came back on in the second half and did well.

“I spoke to their coach about the rain delay and they are used to that, so they reduce their warm-up time. It was just a case of being patient.

“We just tried to rehydrate the guys who were coming later in the game and make sure there were no injuries.

“Everyone got time. Some, such as James Tavernier, got 70 minutes and others such as Kenny Miller played 45. It was just what we felt was appropriate for the training week.”

New boy Josh Windass scored on his debut before Harry Forrester scored on his return from last season’s injury lay-off.

Warburton said: “Josh did really well. He has settled into the group really well as a newcomer and everyone has taken to him.

“He showed his quality in the final third. He offered pace inside and outside and he showed he wants to play.

“We’re in good shape on our return to Scotland. The boys have worked hard on the training pitch and, off it, have enjoyed socialising and getting to know each other even better.”

He was looking at that 4th CH slot in his squad all summer, including now. Who says that OO ain't in his plans about that any longer? (Then again, now that I have written that ... )

It's a great sign of organisation and a manger who knows exactly what he wants that we're getting all this done comfortably before the real action starts while the opposition seem to stumble around spending most of their time trying to offload dross. But still, they have "Broony" and his 50 Scotland caps. Right?

Some more murmurs on FF ...

Will Griggs will 100% go nowhere near the Orcs. Thats from close to the family.

If Rangers offered him a package he could continue a comfortable life style he would come here over ANY offer. It is not about cash.

Take it or leave it. Can't say more.

We are also interested in a premiership striker whom is in his final year of his contract of a top 6 club, loan with view to perminant and a 40% sell on clause. Player is very keen and a friendly club to us are playing hard ball... Similar to Rossiter. Unmentioned name as far as i am aware. There has been contact on a nimber of occasions. Would be a fantastic coup.

Plus its a very shrewd bit of business and couldn't risk any other suitors jumping in, not that nobody else will be aware he is available. But it'll be exciting times if it irons out and thats my final controbution to this thread.

Some people over there are going to be looking a shade silly if something significant doesn't happen. Personally I will take their word on it for now but that's not because i'm being rational. It's simply because I want something significant to happen.
