RANGERS are today delighted to announce the signing of experienced defender Philippe Senderos on a one year deal.

The 31 year-old Swiss has played for a variety of top clubs across Europe, and joins Mark Warburton’s side having enjoyed a successful trial period at Auchenhowie.

In his career, Senderos has appeared at three World Cups and a European Championships, with a total of 57 international caps and five goals to his name.

He began his career at Swiss Super League outfit Servette before making the move to England’s then-dominant force Arsenal in 2003.

While not appearing in the ‘Invincibles’ team of the 2004/05 season, he made his breakthrough the following campaign and played in the 2006 FA Cup Final where Arsenal defeated Manchester United on penalties in Cardiff.

In all, he spent seven seasons in North London, and featured on the bench in the 2006 Champions League final in Paris where Arsene Wenger’s side lost 2-1 to Barcelona.

Loan spells at AC Milan and Everton followed in 2008 and 2009 respectively before he moved permanently to Fulham in 2010, staying at Craven Cottage for four seasons.

La Liga Valencia were next up for Senderos, spending one season there in 2013-14 before heading back to England and Aston Villa. His last club was Zurich side Grasshoppers, a side he departed at the end of last season.

He joins Rangers having made a career total 263 appearances, scoring 10 goals.
