Is this the same guy?,Derek Watson, who works for Motherwell FC’s Community Trust, becomes the youngest member of the board at the age of 23

Really enjoyed that second half, thought we were excellent for large periods of the game. I'd be really surprised if that's the defence we start with on the 6th Aug. I wonder if Tav will stay our first choice right back, hard one to call with his goals and effectiveness going forward but he really doesn't know how to defend. I cant wait to see Barton in this team and we've also got an England U21 captain to consider as well. All in all it looks really promising.

It wont be the midfield we start with either so though it's a good win and the manager now has games against easier opposition to tinker with his side it's still difficult to tell what the team will look like in a playing sense.

But since yesterdays team ultimately put on a dominant display and got a comfortable win and the league starting team will be considerably stronger we can expect little will match us this season.

Looking at that photo there is not a steward in sight!,considering their fans previous!,yet the Rangers fans were penned in!

When I first posted his twitter link there was a pic of him throwing the ball away from Wallace on it mocking Rangers. Seems he has now decided to hide that

Some fiction from the man who doesn't wanted to be there ...

By Chris McLaughlin BBC Sport

Rangers signalled their intent on their top-flight return with a Scottish League Cup victory over Premiership rivals Motherwell.

Hosts Well passed up a host of chances in an entertaining match.

But Rangers were lifted when they went ahead immediately after the break as James Tavernier found the far top corner with a superb curling drive.

Martyn Waghorn added the second with a low curler in stoppage time to give Rangers the three Group F points.

Rangers boss Mark Warburton resisted the temptation to throw in his summer signings and started with a very familiar line-up.

Motherwell manager Mark McGhee hinted before kick-off that the game may have come too soon for his side and urged caution from the critics.

But his team looked the more threatening early on, and Andy Halliday had to scoop the ball off the line after Lionel Ainsworth got through on goal on the right-hand side with just a minute on the clock.

Scott McDonald found himself in a similar position on the left, but goalkeeper Wes Foderingham got down well to save and clear the danger.

Rangers looked nervous, with Motherwell looked desperate to capitalise, and Chris Cadden's dragged shot from six yards completed a trio of good chances missed in the first 10 minutes for the home side.

With McGhee's side looking happy to concede possession and hit Rangers on the break, Marvin Johnson passed up another two decent chances before the hour.

But two minutes into the second half, the game took on a completely different feel as the visitors broke the deadlock.

Waghon slipped the ball to Tavernier, who fired the ball into the top left-hand corner.

It was just reward for Rangers' possession but punishment for a Motherwell side who were defending deeper as the game progressed.

With the men in blue now firmly in their stride, a second looked inevitable and Harry Forrester battered the ball off the bar.

The Rangers fans gave a rousing reception to new signing Nico Kranjcar just before the hour and it looked like his first touch was sure to be a goal only for the Croat to get himself into a tangle.

Barrie McKay should have doubled the lead but could only blast over an empty goal from eight yards out.

Rangers sealed it when Waghorn found some space in the box on the angle and swivelled and curled a fabulous shot low into the net.

Possession Home 34% - Away 66%

Shots Home 13 - Away 20

Shots on Target Home 3 Away 7

Corners Home 3 - Away 6

... but maybe he simply came unstuck with well used phrases.

Read a few of the comments above and while people are sure well within their right to have a word or two about our defence and the start, what was generally missing was (and MW pointed it out a few times): this was our SECOND game of pre-season. It's not mid-October or the like, when you would expect our players at the top of their game.

We may or way may not suffer from our "expansive style" of play. Yet, as long as we score more goals than the opposition, who cares? Similarly, we will sure see different line-ups throughout the "tournament", and Barton will most likely add a new dimension to our defensive displays, as will Hill.

Thanks for ian for providing the full game link above! Even during those few minutes that I watched when returning home, the commentators babbled some amount of rubbish ... which does not augur well for the season ahead.

I also saw that snipped with the Motherwell idiot and Wallace. Alas, the policeman walked up to him after the incident. As for heavy stewarding and policing of our support: do use your smartphones and digicams! Send it to the club and let them have a word or two with the authorities. We DO have new people up there, people more willing to make a stand for us than those before.

I note Chris has failed failed to mention both hand ball incidents. Thus, does NOT have to an awkward and inconvenient comment on the legitimacy and subsequent course of the game.

His post matc interview with fellow happy hoopster and 'Well manager, Mark McGhee was a hoot too. His opening question was dolly, 'you created enough chances to win two games in the first half'?
