Rangers v St Johnstone match preview.

Can't really add anything that's not already been said.

We are a shadow of the team that zipped in 6th gear a year ago and we're getting worse. Our best player McKay is being singled out for special treatment from some of the less cultured supporters in the crowd yet Halliday does very little and seems to be some sort of hero to some merely because he grew up on Copland Road.

Well, most of the teams we played last season were part-time professionals that, while having their weekly cup final against us (probably with a chance to impress), usually tired later in the games and opened up spaces for us to kill them off. Sometimes our footie was too good from the start and after a goal or two, these teams lost their fight.

The clubs that we face now are usually all seasoned pros, still with people willing to impress better clubs, and a pedigree of knowing how to play better clubs. Hence we have trouble getting the results we wanted. That, and our players not yet up to this or able to raise their standards accordingly. Last season we assembled a team able to get us promoted, a team costing next to naught. We spend about 2m this season to get us going and at this moment in time, we are at walking pace at best. Still just a massive 2 points behind second place, mind you.

Wednesday presented us with a possible way ahead, as we had Forrester and Windass on the park, both willing to run at teams and having shots ... something we have been missing for most of this season, including from McKay. That we fell off in the second half was lamentable of course, and you would assume that it did not went unnoticed.

Anybody get the feeling that St Johnstone might actually be better than either Hearts or the sheep? They have already beaten Hearts in the league and drew 0-0 with the sheep. The sheep were truly dire against us and if we weren't misfiring so badly up front could well have been demolished. No more need be said about the foul that never was.

I find that depressing. You're kind of saying our system means we can only win by having far higher factor than the current 3 to 10 times as expensive players as our opposition.

I want a system that generally and definitively beats opposition even if we have the same budget, and also against some teams with more money than us. We can't compete with Celtic, nor do well in Europe without that.

Like Barcas system.
